[So, does a president's responsibility to keep the nation secure, in this case via increasing border security (aka reducing border porosity), constitute a sufficiently important issue to warrant standing firm on his request for a minimal amount of funding ($5B or less) to increase that security and plug our very porous border, which the assaulting migrants are now pouring through at historically high rates? gjr]

George 7:01. — You mislead with your comment/attack..You are starting to sound like the trumpster himself. Never did I say America was immoral..so your ‘hurrah for America’ diatribe is just meaningless BS and a feeble attempt to discredit those with whom you disagree by trying to paint yourself as the ‘true patriot.’ I did say Donald trump is immoral and those who support him have cast aside their moral compass in exchange for political expediency. 7,600 patently false or misleading statements since taking office and counting (now at a 15 per day average), at least two adulterous affairs that were concealed from voters, a crooked foundation shuttered by court order, a school that was fined $25M for fraud, and more lawsuits and corruption investigations and former associates who are now convicted felons than one can shake a stick at. Apparently that is just fine with you and yours because he is instituting a political agenda with which you agree. Do keep in mind that you, your views, and your positions on issues are in the minority in a country supposedly with majority rule. If the shoe fits, wear it George, you might sleep better at night.

We have read all about the canonizing of Khashoggi, the Saint. Even made Time Mag cover as journalist Person of the Year. Just like that little caged girl with mean ole Trump looming over her. Nevermind the child was never separated from her mother….a mother whom had been previously deported and was not fleeing domestic violence, poverty, nor feared for her life. All that to say if one is on the cover of Time, you know it’s fakenews. :). Anyway……
Here is something one can rest assured that the fakenews media will not cover.

RobertC 958am – Nice try Mr Cross, but I think your 1155am speaks for itself in that you did indeed refer to America – I quote your words – “George– this goes back to the post I made the other day about moral compass and political expediency, that you pushed aside because it was not under the proper blogpost category. This is the premier issue, not borders, not immigration, not so called fake news, climate change, or the witch hunt. This is at the heart of what America is or isn’t. Are we a country of moral character and values that does the right thing, what is best for humanity and the planet, or is winning, making money, and power, by hook or by crook, more important.”
Your fellow socialists in our schools have been delivering that same denigrating message to our young now going into the third generation. You and yours have used every pejorative in the book to describe the America that all of you have now come to believe requires a “fundamental transformation”. But it’s OK if, upon further reflection, you have changed your mind and are more in tune with my 701pm about America.

ScottO 1102am – I’m always puzzled why our socialist neighbors hang on every word posted on a website they abhor, and which they repeatedly tell all that it has no value. And when they do come, they demonstrate that they understand little if anything that is discussed here. For example, Russ made no claim that he only read the sites he highlighted – he very clearly said that these were the conservative ones that he reads. And we have demonstrated that we all read prodigiously what the Left writes. No one here thinks that the pabulum of ideas that these gentlemen sprinkle here originated with them. But they on the other hand think that the ideas discussed here 1) have their origin here, and 2) are found nowhere beyond these pages. The reason for this is clear, as SteveF amply demonstrates on every visit, they don’t frequent anyplace save their comfortable echo chambers, else their critiques would reflect a world beyond their blinders.
What reward do they garner by sharing their (most revealing and welcome) vituperations in these comment streams?

With no end to President Donald Trump’s trade war in sight, many chickpea farmers are bracing for tough financial times ahead in the coming year.
NPR reports that many chickpea farmers in the Pacific Northwest have a huge percentage of their crops sealed away in storage with little hope of finding buyers anytime soon.
“30 to 40 percent of our total revenue is in the bin,” chickpea farmer Allen Druffel tells NPR. “And we’re not sure what we want to do with it.”
Druffel says the timing of the trade war couldn’t have been worse, as he’d had one of his best crops ever, only to see prices for chickpeas plummet from 50 cents a pound in February to just 18 cents a pound in December.
Tim McGreevy, the head of the American Pulse Association that represents farmers who grow pulse crops such as chickpeas and lentils, tells NPR that his farmers have lost an estimated $500 million in potential revenue thanks to Trump’s trade war

The American Media, Suckered Again
It has been my position that Jamal Khashoggi was more than a journalist, that he was an embedded agent of some type. Mark Steyn has the story and the details.
The American Media, Suckered Again
[. . .]
Well, I was right – not only in my prediction that Time would make him their “Man of the Year”, as an heroic journalist who paid the ultimate price, but also in the larger sense. His newspaper, The Washington Post, now publishes a story blandly headlined “Khashoggi’s Final Months: An Exile in the Long Shadow of Saudi Arabia” – and way, way deep into the piece, you realize it’s not an elegy at all but a modified, limited hang-out to get the Post off an awkward hook and discreetly disclose they were duped:
Perhaps most problematic for Khashoggi were his connections to an organization funded by Saudi Arabia’s regional nemesis, Qatar. Text messages between Khashoggi and an executive at Qatar Foundation International show that the executive, Maggie Mitchell Salem, at times shaped the columns he submitted to The Washington Post, proposing topics, drafting material and prodding him to take a harder line against the Saudi government. Khashoggi also appears to have relied on a researcher and translator affiliated with the organization…
Editors at The Post’s opinion section, which is separate from the newsroom, said they were unaware of these arrangements…
You don’t say. In contrast to the Post’s shifty, evasive, passive, woozy, blurry headline, Asharq al-Awsat puts the only real news in the story up in its headline:
Text Messages Reveal Khashoggi’s ‘Problematic’ Ties with Qatar
So what exactly is “problematic” about it?
In early August, Salem prodded Khashoggi to write about Saudi Arabia’s alliances ‘from DC to Jerusalem to rising right wing parties across Europe…bringing an end to the liberal world order that challenges their abuses at home.’
Khashoggi expressed misgivings about such a strident tone, then asked, ‘So do you have time to write it?’
‘I’ll try,” she replied.
So in other words The Washington Post passed off foreign-government propaganda as an authentic op-ed opinion column. Khashoggi wasn’t a journalist at all, notwithstanding that pathetic Time “Person of the Year” cover whose truth didn’t even make it to December 31st. This is “problematic” not so much for Khashoggi, whose various body parts are pushing up daisies in various bits of scrub around Turkey, but for the Post. Indeed, Liz Sly, the Washington Post Beirut bureau chief, concedes that it’s not only “problematic” but rises to the level of “worrying”:
Worryingly, an executive for the Qatar Foundation helped Jamal Khashoggi write some of his columns and the @washingtonpost didn’t know.
It’s a lot more than “worrying”. Mainstream media chumps’ view of their own profession is a combination of sentimentalized pomposity so deeply ingrained that they can’t even tell, even when it’s staring them in the face, that they’ve been played for rubes.

‘The beauty of me is that I’m very rich.’
(On the Duchess of Cambridge) ‘Who wouldn’t take Kate’s picture and make lots of money if she does the nude sunbathing thing. Come on, Kate!’
‘I think I am actually humble. I think I’m much more humble than you would understand.’
‘I’m intelligent. Some people would say I’m very, very, very intelligent.”
“I have never seen a thin person drinking Diet Coke.’
‘Sorry losers and haters, but my I.Q. is one of the highest – and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure, it’s not your fault.’
‘Being nice to Rocket Man hasn’t worked in 25 years, why would it work now? Clinton failed, Bush failed, and Obama failed. I won’t fail.’ (Kim Jong-un came to power in 2011).
‘My father gave me a small loan of a million dollars.’
‘While Bette Midler is an extremely unattractive woman, I refuse to say that because I always insist on being politically correct.’
(On exporting goods to China) ‘Listen, you m—–f——, we’re going to tax you 25 per cent!’
(To Cher) ‘I don’t wear a ‘rug’— it’s mine. And I promise not to talk about your massive plastic surgeries that didn’t work.’
‘I think Viagra is wonderful if you need it, if you have medical issues, if you’ve had surgery. I’ve just never needed it. Frankly, I wouldn’t mind if there were an anti-Viagra, something with the opposite effect. I’m not bragging. I’m just lucky. I don’t need it. I’ve always said, “If you need Viagra, you’re probably with the wrong girl.”‘
(On Puerto Rico) ‘This is an island surrounded by water, big water, ocean water.’
‘People love me. And you know what? I’ve been very successful. Everybody loves me.’
‘My fingers are long and beautiful, as, it has been well documented, are various other parts of my body.’
‘I think the only difference between me and other candidates is that I’m more honest and my women are more beautiful.’
‘All of the women on The Apprentice flirted with me – consciously or unconsciously. That’s to be expected.’
‘I’ve said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.’
‘A person who is very flat-chested is very hard to be a 10.’
‘You know, it really doesn’t matter what the media write as long as you’ve got a young, and beautiful, piece of ass.’
‘Number one, I have great respect for women. I was the one that really broke the glass ceiling on behalf of women, more than anybody in the construction industry. My relationship, I think, is going to end up being very good with women.’
‘Just arrived in Scotland. Place is going wild over the vote. They took their country back, just like we will take America back. No games!’ (the day after the Brexit vote)
‘It’s freezing and snowing in New York – we need global warming!’
‘The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make US manufacturing non-competitive.’
‘By the way, I have great respect for China. I have many Chinese friends. They live in my buildings all over the place.’
‘I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK? It’s, like, incredible.’
‘I do know what to do and I would know how to bring Isil to the table or, beyond that, defeat Isil very quickly. And I’m not gonna tell you what it is.’
‘An “extremely credible source” has called my office and told me that Barack Obama’s birth certificate is a fraud.’
‘And did you notice that baby was crying through half of the speech and I didn’t get angry? Not once. Did you notice that? That baby was driving me crazy. I didn’t get angry once because I didn’t want to insult the parents for not taking the kid out of the room!’
“Something very important, and indeed society-changing, may come out of the Ebola epidemic that will be a very good thing: NO SHAKING HANDS!’
‘The worst thing a man can do is go bald. Never let yourself go bald.’
