The off shore drilling bit was just an off the top of my head example of a political strategy component and was not meant to present a position to debate.
Let me ask you this, in your view do the Republicans in California have any chance to gain a reasonable amount of elected support in the age of Trump?

The question George put on the table is what do the Repubs need to do to regain political viability in California. What are your ideas? Here is George’s question.
“Given the ideological demographics of today’s CA voters, if you step away into neutral territory, what advice re messaging would you then give Republicans?”

Become not-Republicans. I’d say that the primary reason that the parties aren’t balanced is demographics, and that changed over time. Short version: The Republicans died or left and were replaced by Democrats from Mexico or Latin America. A smart move by Team Blue.

Well Paul, Nevada County used to be a fine place. The your city LIBS moved here, and brought their city problems and ideals with them.
Liberalism is toxic, a SO toxic, it’s polluted the water table.
A city LIB hears a gunshot off in the distance, and calls the cops.
A city LIB sees a person burning some brush in a rain storm and calls the fire dept.
Now we have city street vermin coming here on a regular basis to try and rob businesses. I can’t wait to hear the news that some city pavement ape gets shot holding up a local business. (Then of course there will be the “He did’t do nuffn’! Prosecute the business owner! He should have robbery insurance! That’s what it’s for!”

A LIBs take on ballot harvesting.
“โWe beat Republicans on the ground, fair and square,โ said Katie Merrill, a Democratic consultant deeply involved in November campaigns. โMany of the field plans included (ballot harvesting) as an option to deliver voters or their ballotsโ to the polls.
Those efforts involved identifying voters who might support Democratic candidates and ignoring those who wouldnโt.
In one Orange County household, for example, both the husband and wife were longtime Republicans, said Dale Neugebauer, a veteran Republican consultant. Democratic volunteers came by the house four times, each time asking to speak only with their 18-year-old daughter, a no-party-preference voter, and asking if she wanted them to pick up her signed and completed ballot.”
Looks like these guys were on to something.
“Before its passage, a group opposed to the bill wrote: โAB 1921 would allow anybody to walk into an elections office and hand over truckloads of vote by mail envelopes with ballots inside, no questions asked, no verified records kept. It amounts to an open invitation to large-scale vote buying, voter coercion, โgranny farmingโ, and automated forgery. AB 1921 solves no problem that a simple stamp canโt solve.โ
And that’s pretty much what happened.

The issue of the Rs staying relevant by becoming Democrat Friendly is laughable. If it’s important to have a balancing and contrasting party then the Rs have to NOT become Dem-lite or even Dem-like.
As has been predicted from years ago, the demographics in CA have tilted heavily to the left. It’s free stuff vs freedom and CA has gone for free stuff. That’s what the people want. Other western states are in a similar fix. Tiny physical areas of high density population outweigh the vast rural regions of CA, OR and WA. The widely differing values, interests and demands of the rural vs the urban create a chasm in politics that simply can not be spanned by ‘shared values’ because there are very few to no shared values. There exists now a movement in eastern WA and OR to leave their respective states and join ID to form a large mostly rural state where the citizens can feel they have better representation. No new state would have to be formed and the existing capitol in Boise would simply expand a bit to accommodate the added acreage. Seattle/Olympia and Portland/Salem will never allow it to happen, of course. All the yap from the left about ‘democracy!’ is pure BS. As Paul has admitted, POWER! is what drives the left and baby you better just get out of the way.

While itโs true that undocumented residents living in California can obtain driverโs licenses, the state has not passed any laws that also provide them the right to vote. The New Motor Voter Act was passed in an effort to improve voter turnout, and while this law does automatically register citizens to vote when they obtain or renew their driverโs licenses, that action only applies to citizens who have already attested and/or documented an eligibility to vote.

Exactomondo, my fine fellow. Thatโs the law. However, my point was that may be the law, but thatโs not the practice.
Everyone who is not regeristered to vote gets a voter regeristered form when asked. And they have to ask. Same as the local welfare department in our county seat.. Because of the lawsuit (after the law?) voter registration forms when turned in at the DMV are filled in as โyesโ IF they were turned in with the question Are you a US citizen, yes or no, was left blank. Nevada is real bad for passing out voter registration forms to those with green cards applying for a driverโs license as well. And Mid-west state and a Southern state…….
No worries, my fine chap. There will be no repercussions. This is California we are talking about, afterall. You have the keys to the kingdom.
No wonder you guys are so quick on the draw to suppress so many things.
There is no R comeback in CA. So now is all yours to lie steal, cheat and plunder to make it into some place that exsits somewhere over the rainbow and certainly not like the other places in the US where you have had free reign. This time will be different, oh refuge from the city. And you can welcome all the illegals with big open arms, and save the planet from impeding Doom, not to mention finally getting your hands on all that money that evil corporations and rich people have in their vaults stuffed with cash. It belongs to everybody and you want your cut. Itโs only fair. California is dead to red, all blue now for decades. Maybe the bullet train will be done by then and only the business class can afford to ride it.

It isn’t like the Bad Orange Man has had much effect at all on their personal lives, aside from some tinkering with the tax code and perhaps a small surcharge on cheap Chinese plastic goods, but you’d think that he burned down their trailerhouses. BarryP 756am – Nothing more than what one can quickly google about the former KGB defector who predicted a scenario for a future process of US decline. While we may quibble with his particulars, he did repeat what was already known in the early 1980s, that the road to ruin lay through control and destruction of the US education system. That common denominator has been part of every such scenario, including that of Rebane Doctrine which I have dispensed in more detail here on the RR soapbox.
