[Good-hearted Darrell Berkheimer, one of our Union’s several progressive columnists, is truly an exemplar of ideological low hanging fruit. His most recent 1sep18 column is standard leftwing pap and a collection of its staple feel-good talking points, with no consideration of how any of such socialist goals can be achieved, either with living breathing human beings or available monies. His solution for the latter is to defund the military, which to him and his is the ever-present and unnecessary burden that maintains an America which keeps globalism at bay. If it weren’t for his effect on the even less-well-read of our community, Mr Berkheimer’s ignorance of history and economics could be gently dismissed as the simple outpourings of a concerned and kindly old gentleman. gjr]

“Are you on record as speaking out about the “lock me up” chants during the election aimed at Hillary Clinton? She wasn’t even arrested or indicted”
-Punchy
No, she wasn’t even arrested or indicted and that does appear to many to be because the FBI had made the decision not to at the beginning of the “investigation” of the person Jim Comey believed would be his next boss.
Looking at all the words in an indictment isn’t the same as reading them for comprehension, Paul.

Bobby at 10:29 and 11:24: OK – now consider all of that and remember that Trump is more truthful than Obama in what he said he would do as POTUS when running for office vs how he is actually governing. Also consider that as stupid as he is claimed to be, he is making far better decisions as POTUS than Obama.
Again – for the slower kids here: I do not approve of many things Trump has done nor will I excuse them. He goes off about trivial things he should leave alone and blows his mouth off with exaggerated claims. The only question that matters is whether or not this country is better off with Trump as pres vs Hillary. It’s not even close.

PaulE 1052am – No Paul, be serious, of course I don’t know who conducted the investigation when. And the ‘when’ part is what I asked, not you. But given its duration, I’m willing to bet the ranch that it was no one within a level or two of the AG. That’s the way things are done in such bureaucracies. So please pull in your usual diversionary questions which have nothing to do with the topic at hand. (I see you’re again off the point with Gregory on whether not when sufficient evidence existed, and what the function of an indictment is in a legal proceeding. This gets boring pretty fast.)

Paul, the indictments do not contain ANY evidence.
This is why “Green Libertarians” are not libertarian at all. Trial by indictment. Game over. The rules of evidence do not apply when it’s an opposition member of Congress being indicted.

PaulE 140pm – Does this mean that you are still puzzled as to why Trump tweeted about DoJ’s timing the release of the indictments, and that you’ve abandoned the 703pm thread you started? It pays to remember that the contents and verity of the indictment are not the issue here, it is their release timing viz the span and conclusion of the investigation. But I do agree that diverting to the indictment’s contents does change the subject.

I created the”topic at hand” George when I noted
“Once again Trump tries to cuddle up to one of his backers by discrediting Sessions and Justice Department for doing their job. ”
At this point George you diverted the question to raise the ol conspiracy theory that these things may be directed by a secret stash of Democratic directed DOJ prosecutors that timed the whole indictment to do the most harm for Trump and the Republicans. So far not a shred of evidence to verify that. Can you provide something

Dr. Rebane did say last week that it’s going to get worse and more hideous.. Yep, ‘tis true, tis true. They have gone from a 4 hour undignified charade of honoring the dead to an eight hour desecration of the dead. Is nothing sacred? They are getting worse by the hour.
“What possessed them? How could Minnesota’s Democrats have been so foolish as to turn a memorial meeting for eight people tragically killed in a plane crash into a campaign rally for the United States Senate?
The Paul Wellstone memorial pep rally will be recorded as one of the supreme mistakes in recent political history – an entirely avoidable and unnecessary fiasco.
Just how big a fiasco? Jesse Ventura, the state’s independent governor, said he felt “violated” by the four-hour event.
It was a four-hour political rally for Democrats, including a booing of Republicans that even had Wellstone’s own campaign manager issuing statements of humbled apology for the rancorous, undignified scene.

I owe you an answer. I once wrote that Tony Podesta and Manafort did joint contracts together (business ventures if you will) for the pro Russian Ukrainian government. Both failed to register as lobbyists (agents) for a foreign government. The FBI had a file on Manafort for his working for the Ukrainians after investigating the man in 2011. In 2012 they decided not to file criminal charges where it lay collecting dust. Tony was never charged with failing to register. Tony did after the fact when his name hit the papers. A trail awaits Manafort this month on failing to register. Tony will not see such a trial.
You asked of me my opinion on WHY is that. Hmmmm. Tough answer. Haven’t a clue.
Let’s see here. The Special Counsel regulations requires the Special Counsel to specify a crime is suspected of have being committed. The Rosenstein to Mueller original memo was left vague on purpose, not crimes listed to investigate, another violation of the regulations governing the SC statue On May 27,2017.
When Manafort challenged his indicatments as illegal prosecution (not under the Special Counsels authority) in court, what was previously hidden from the public’s view was Rosenstein’s 2nd Memo to the Independent Counsel, directing Meuller to investigate “allegations that Paul Manafort committed a crime or crimes by colluding with Russian government officials with respect to the Russian government’s efforts to i terfer with the 2016 election law for President of the United States, in violation of United States law.” What law? What application of the word “Collusion”?
That second “secret memo” was dated August 3rd to cover Rosenstein and Meuller’s tracks Unfortunately for Lady Justice, Meuller had ordered the FBI to raid Manafort’s home a week earlier on July 26th, 2017. Meuller pointed to his CYA August 2, 2017 Secret Memo as his authoration to investigate Mueller for colluding with the Russians in the 2016election. Colluding in the political areana is not a criminal act, not a crime. Meuller cannot investigate non crimes.
So, to answer your question M, I would hazard to guess Manafort was chosen for prosecution and Tony Podesta was not because…..drumroll please….Lady Justice is wearing an eye patch. I could be wrong. 🙂

Oh crap I didn’t mean to say that in front of a camera, *$@)) iphones!
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., told a bystander who asked when President Trump would be impeached, “The sooner the better.”
Schumer’s comment appeared to be a sharp break from his own previous rhetoric and that of other party leaders, who have avoided discussing impeachment proceedings for fear of alienating moderate voters ahead of November’s midterm elections.
“When are y’all going to impeach Trump?” someone calls out in the footage from behind a barricade as Schumer, carrying a megaphone, walks past with his security detail in the West Indian-American Day parade.
“The sooner the better,” Schumer quickly replies. The same bystander apparently counters: “‘The sooner the better?’ That’s not answering the question.”
“We gotta get a few Republicans,” Schumer responds. “Democrats are on your side.” Impeaching the president requires a majority of votes in the House of Representatives, which Democrats do not currently have; removing the president would then require a two-thirds vote of the Senate.

Aha. The picture is getting clearer.
Papadopoulos denied knowing anything about the hacked emails when Halper raised the question (which, by the way, is entirely consistent with Papadopoulos’s claim that the Russians had Hillary Clinton’s emails). While the press conflates the two, the hacked emails were the Democratic National Committee (DNC) emails, while the emails Papadopoulos believed Mifsud meant were the ones missing from Hillary’s homebrew server.
So, let’s lay it out: In September 2016, the FBI used an informant in an attempt to ensnare Papadopoulos and establish collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia’s hacking of the DNC emails. Then in January 2017, after Papadopoulos confirmed Mifsud was the source of his claim that the Russians had “dirt” on Hillary, and had agreed to cooperate and contact Mifsud, and after the FBI “located” Mifsud in D.C., the FBI didn’t use Papadopoulos to ensnare the supposed Russian-agent whose purported foreknowledge of the hack justified the launch of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.
