Yes, the bottomless pork barrel is VERY popular, and any Presidential candidate who seriously attacks the role of the Federal government handing out cash to farmers will have a rough time in early primaries, generally in the farm belt.

PaulE 1024am – The most interesting thing about your comments is how you connect the dots. How on earth did you conclude that as a MOC I would support your introducing or voting for a NEW subsidy bill?? Do you even recall what my position has been on subsidies for the last 12 years in these pages? Memory is such a precious facility, we don’t really appreciate it until it begins to decline.
M 857am – My, my, my. Here in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada we have cracked the case on Trump. Meanwhile in DC special prosecutor Mueller is still stumbling around with his 17 dwarfs trying to find something that would let him exit with honor. Perhaps you could do the man a favor and establish immediate communications with him so that he can indict and declare victory.

Well Trump is supporting a new subsidy for farmers to compensate for their losses due to his imposed tariffs-12 billion I recall. This was in June I believe. I have yet to sense a critical response from you so I assume you support NEW subsidies as long as they are proposed by a Republican administration. Would you respond the same way it these were Obama’s proposals?

PaulE 346pm – I already made clear my opposition to existing subsidies which have become a commons. Unless all recipients refuse them concurrently, the early one(s) to give up their subsidies will get killed in the market. And I am also against the institution of new subsidies, especially if needed to support trade wars (Ref the Great Depression and see how that worked out). But we’ve circled this barn many times already. Please try to recall what I have written on the topic, or simply do a search of RR for such info (if you’re too busy/lazy to do that, I’m equally busy/lazy to so respond). However, I would most welcome your discovery and revelation of any and all of my inconsistencies – those I must explain.

on to the new menace from Trump – from the Boston Globe:
‘Pritchard said she hoped the editorials would make an impression on Americans.
“I hope it would educate readers to realize that an attack on the First Amendment is unacceptable,” she said. “We are a free and independent press, it is one of the most sacred principles enshrined in the Constitution”.’
Uh – what ‘attack’? Was Pritchard visited by the Stasi? Is she able to attack Trump whenever and however she feels fit? Of course she is.
Has the govt threatened her or her newspaper? No, of course not. So, who has been muzzled from the popular internet outlets? Anyone on the left?
    Nope. All on the right.
I would suggest Ms Pritchard go to China and pull this childish shit.
Then she’ll find out about her 1st A rights being abridged.
Another whiny cry-baby on the left that believes she has the right to write anything she wants and if some one criticises it – waaaaah!

The biggest turd in the toilet –
Well, not really. For that, you need a judge to impose those consequences.
The very forgiving judge I mentioned is Superior Court Judge Christopher Hite, who previously worked as an attorney in Public Defender Jeff Adachi’s office.
Hite is perhaps best known for flushing all 64,713 outstanding warrants issued in quality-of-life cases from January 2011 through October 2015, giving police no authority to detain people who skipped court appearances and rendering the citations meaningless. He did so as part of a court-wide consensus that fining poor people who can’t afford to pay is pointless.
Then-Mayor Ed Lee was irate at the decision, saying the point of citations isn’t to collect money from poor people, but as leverage to compel them to accept treatment, shelter and other services.
At the time, Lee said through a spokeswoman the judges were not “meeting the responsibilities voters elected them to. When one branch of government fails — be it executive, legislative or judicial — we all fail.”

Very troubling trend. Actually, not a trend, it’s now established practices. Since when is discussing uncomfortable topics a bad thing? Since when did discussing sensitive topics become forbidden? Since when is it ok to shut down (silence) someone because one does not like the words coming out another’s mouth or pen? What FB, You Tube, Twitter (to a lesser degee) and other social media are sayings is we don’t want you to even mention certain things…it’s forbidden!

The subtext of the headline reads, “No, the Second Amendment does not protect them.”
Wrong. The 2nd Amendment does indeed protect them, whether you hate them or not, no matter how dispiciable one may consider them. The Progressives, like the good Leftinista Satalinists they are, want to temporary suspend the 2nd Amendment. Well, why make it easier and just suspend the 1st Amendment’s right to peacefully assemble and cancel the rally?
What the liberals are really saying is that we don’t like the words coming out of those people’s mouths so lets suspend their enumerated rights, temporary of course. Odd that they never condemn the words or actions coming out of their side’s mouths, only the other dudes, lol.
In essence, the Left and the Constitution are incapatable.

Here’s a direct quote from you applauding Trumps imposition of tariffs which was the direct cause for 13 Billion in new subsidies. You can’t support one without supporting the other. No criticism of tariffs here. You close your critique with “things are looking up”
“And now we understand why President Trump had to use that ridiculous ‘national defense’ ploy to announce his tariffs – that was the only legal lever that he had to get things moving quickly without getting into a congressional quagmire of hearings, etc before the midterm election. He played poker with a poker face, and our allies correctly painted him serious and came to the table. They too realized that continuing this ridiculous trade game three generations after the end of the war was a hell of way to run a railroad. Much more to be done. More accomplishments to take to the bank. But from my perch, things are looking up.”

PaulE 1105am – Not sure you understood my cited post. I made no statement in naked support of tariffs, but only noted that tariffs imposed for (or in the pretense of) national security was the only legal option Trump had to get things off the SOSO trading dime. And to the extent that we are beginning to have substantive talks on a new trading order with our trading partners (e.g. with EU’s president Juncker), to that extent things continue to look up. If all such approaches fail – like bringing Turkey, China, Canada, Mexico, Japan, … to some sort of parity – then this approach or its execution was clearly not a solution. As I said before, I would have preferred Trump start with one-on-one talks that may or not have involved additional tariffs or their removal altogether. I hope this doesn’t spoil your gotcha, but I did appreciate the call for clarification.
And “you can’t support one (tariffs) without supporting the other (subsidies)”. Oh yes I can, even with my qualified support of the use of tariffs as expanded above.

Like most leftwing elitists, the Young Democratic Socialists of America are counting that their fellow youngsters are double dummies when it comes to understanding socialism. The YDSA cites that they are for doing socialism right like in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, …, not wrong like in Venezuela and Cuba (actually communistic). But the Nordic countries cited aren’t socialist in the YDSA-promoted sense, and their geo-political environment is markedly different than that of a world hegemon like the USA. But these little details, among the many others, need not bother the little heads that they are in the process of turning.

Using the same pragmatism do you also support he 13 Billion is farm subsidies to mitigate the losses to farmers and the likely addition of such subsidies to our national debt due to the budget increase needed to pay those subsidies?

‘The subtext of the headline reads, “No, the Second Amendment does not protect them.”’
As I understand it, it’s all the difference between whether the social media monopolies are considered a platform or as some form of media curator like a newspaper.
Obviously, they want the best of both worlds. Violating copyright law and running provocative videos/tweets is what draws the traffic, but given the politics of the employees (and to some extent the screeching liberals out in the world), it’s tempting to play censor. The moment they are held responsible for the material on their sites, they are screwed financially.
Hey, it’s early days and we are still working this out. A publicly subsidized backbone was put in, web ‘broadcasters’ filled up their bins by taking all authors, they build a near-monopoly in their corner, and then they can cut off vile ‘hate’ speech (ie. anything they don’t like) at the knees. It’s a beautiful thing.
I hope what happens is that the response is to build distributed equivalents to those sites, rather than balkanization (of course, that didn’t help Gab) or turning them into utilities.
It’s all just war by another means and we’re in the early stages. The portmanteau ‘lawfare’ comes to mind.

Well, I don’t doubt that he’d be four-square for tariffs if a different person did it.
I honestly don’t know how this’ll all turn out. It’s refreshing to see a President who appears to have US national interest in mind, and I can see the point of a bit of economic warfare to level the playing field, but sometimes you end up in a place you never intended.
But enough of that. Obviously we need to go to war with Russia and to allow the Chinese to run roughshod over trade.

Yes, it’s early and we are still working it out. As of now, the Big Three techies have not been classified as “publishers”. Again, as for now, the squeaky wheel (TAD) gets the grease.
Whether or not FB, Goggle, You Tube, or Twitter should be classified as publishers is an open question. Might afford them more First Amendment protections on one hand and more liability for the contents on its cites on the other hand. Hmmm. If so, then Dr. Rebane is a publisher and is accountable if I say that four letter word ‘hate’. Dr. Rebane may not be responsible for me saying the banned word ‘hate’, but he could be accountable. “The Nation of Islam leader today is the same man he has been for more than a half-century — a raging anti-Semite, homophobe, and misogynist who never misses an opportunity to lob his ugly rhetoric.
During his “Saviours’ Day” speech in Chicago last month, Farrakhan bellowed about the “Jewish-controlled media” and government. He claimed Jews are promoting “degenerate behavior in Hollywood, turning men into women and women into men.” He even floated a conspiracy that Jews and government officials have concocted a strain of marijuana to emasculate black men. “God did not create man to lay with man,” he said. “But you are being chemically programmed against your nature, you don’t know it.”
All of this sounds like the kind of stuff someone comes up with after smoking too much weed.”

Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan’s official Facebook page is rife with anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and other hateful speech, which have not been censored by Facebook content monitors, a Daily Caller News Foundation review of the page reveals.
Videos posted to Farrakhan’s Facebook page show the Nation of Islam leader claiming that Jews are secretly controlling government agencies to suppress black Americans and blaming Jews for “weaponizing” marijuana with “chemicals” to “feminize” black men.
Neither of those videos violate Facebook’s rules prohibiting hate speech, a Facebook spokeswoman told The Daily Caller News Foundation in a phone interview Tuesday.
Another video that showed Farrakhan warning against interracial marriage — which he blames on “the enemy” in Hollywood — to keep the black race “from being any further mongrelized,” was originally ruled not to violate hate speech rules, according to the Facebook spokeswoman.
After this article was published, the spokeswoman called back and said that a closer review by the company’s content monitors determined Farrakhan’s use of the word “mongrelized” did violate Facebook’s rules, and that the video would be deleted.
(Hmmm. mongrelized is a now banned. Video taken down by FB, but not the site. No 86’ed for life)

Green subsidies good. Farm subsidies bad. Grants to starving artists good. Anything that La Mafia or Trump does is bad.
Punchy needs to take a bigger view of things. No pain, no gain. Short term pain for long term gain. The Europe folk said they will take in more of our soybeans. That soon? Good news. The Canadians will come around after the pain wipes the smirk off of Justin’s mug for good. Mexico is eager to get ‘er done which is surprising because. these things take time. Lots of positioning, saber rattling, politiciing is way the process usually takes. But Trump ain’t no usual kind of guy.
If Trump’s plan for reduced tariffs works, he will be a hero and that 13 billion will look like small potatoes compared to money coming iin and be old news folks will completely forget about. If it fails, he will have hell to pay. Strike that. To those haters riddled with TAD, if Trump’s plan scores, Trump will. Have he’ll to pay. If the plan for is a disaster for our country, then he will have hell to pay and either way, our Popinjay will always talk about those subsidies that lined the pocket of La Malfa with blood money taking out of the mouths of the poor children of NPR listeners. And we won’t even the Trump, hating going on as they alway root for failure and cheer all things that go bad fo America.
Ah, Scenes or Fish is right. This topic is boring two days ago.
No plan is perfect and we won’t get everything we want. The Europeans get to protect their auto industry and the Japanese will protect their rice industry. But tariffs will be closer to equity than ever since WW2 and their will be some hiccups in the short term pain. That Trump is determined, I tell ya. Opps, I meant to say Liar Trump is going to kill us all!

It obvious you didn’t turn in the gross polluter when cash for clunkers was the rage. GOOD FOR YOU. I admire that. Nope “O” didn’t get my old 59 Willie’s pickup either.

OMG, I thought you were a dude.
On the record so far, there is no evidence that Kanoute’s color was what precipitated the employee’s call. She herself claims that she was mistaken for a “suspicious black male,” and the transcript of the police call has the employee referring to Kanoute as a man: “He seems to be out of place… . I don’t see anybody in the building at this point and, uh, I don’t know what he’s doing in there, just laying on the couch.”
At Smith, where all undergraduates are women, the sight of what appeared to be an unfamiliar young man sprawled on a couch in a room where men normally aren’t present might well make a staff member uneasy.”

To say one nationality or race is lying and deceitful is hate Walt. It’s based on a prejudiced judgement.

Poor Paul. Back to fake justification.
There may be plenty that “tell the truth”. I just haven’t met one yet. NOW.. Read those words CAREFULLY. Did I say “ALL” Greeks? ( Nope) That kinda shoots your accusation full of holes.
Still driving the van? (funny,, you sure side stepped that one all of a sudden.) Still passing gas… I mean SMOG?
