    Bad day for the gun grabbers –
    Gun rights advocates on Tuesday won another round in the fight against a state law that aims to ban high-capacity gun magazines.
    The California law restricting gun magazines to 10 bullets was set to go into effect last July, but U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez in San Diego granted a preliminary injunction until a lawsuit by gun owners could be litigated further.
    On Tuesday, a three-judge panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeal upheld the preliminary injunction in a 2-1 ruling.
    Meanwhile, the case — Duncan v. Becerra — has been moving through the district court. The ruling means the law won’t go into effect until the case can be litigated in full. The district judge is considering a motion for summary judgement, which is a major step that dictates if the case goes to trial.

    I beat you to it by 12 hours, DB, I should have asked George to transfer it to the new sandbox:
    Remember that proposition that banned large capacity magazines (as if anything more than 10 is large capacity) in California… that was to go into effect last July?
    You miscreants with large cap magazines were going to have to get rid of them by the D-day.
    Well, there was a lower Federal court that put in a restraining order in time to keep it going into effect, and there was an appeal to the 9th Circus challenging the order.

    The precedent-breaker looks to be Ryan Bounds, a 44-year-old federal prosecutor in Oregon. At its first meeting in June, the Judiciary panel is on track to endorse him for a seat on the 9th Circuit, even though the state’s senators, Democrats Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, have refused to turn in blue slips. After Bounds was chosen from a roster of four recommended by an independent screening committee, his inflammatory writings as a college student — about sexual assault and gay rights, among other topics — were labeled disqualifying by the senators.
    “It’s a very significant mistake for this committee to have gotten rid of this tradition,” Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island told Judiciary last week. “We will rue the day.”
    Once the custom is shattered, Trump could feel emboldened to try to fill three California vacancies on the 9th Circuit with people opposed by the state’s senators, Democrats Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris. And their blue-slip behavior could be powerless to stop him, even though both sit on the Judiciary Committee.

That strategy paid off big with the recent congressional primary victory of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old DSA member who much of the media has ordained the new face of the Democratic Party.

    Would these be the same intelligence assessments as the ones warning us about Saddam H’s nukes?
    Besides – the idea that Moscow successfully ‘interfered’ in America’s political process is laughable. Obama did far more to interfere in our political process by having the IRS slow-walk and stall conservative 501C3 applications. That was our own govt weaponised to insidiously and illegally tilt the field in favor of the then-current admin.

    McConnell has shown his value as of late. I tried to tell you GOP partisans to hang tight, but GOP congresscritters (House and Senate) don’t bend under the whip like DEMs do, and there is little a bare majority in the Senate can do with a President in opposition.
    Let me assure the both eyes closed brigade (that’s RL Crabb) that I’d much rather a Libertarian Party be one of the two major parties, but in the meantime, I’m satisfied with the courts applying the text that is in the constitution rather than the text the Living Constitutionalists want to see. And with Donald Trump being the lawfully elected President of the US, it’s time to stop the Resistance. Trump is not as bad as your hallucinations make him out to be, and he is the President until 2020, and that could be until january 2025 if the Resistance keeps the BS up.
    The Democratic/Democratic Socialist Party has been a disaster for the USA. Time to cool it, folks.

    Since January 2017, more than 30,000 people have illegally crossed the Canada-U.S. border to file refugee claims in Canada. Many have told Reuters they did so because they did not feel safe pursuing refugee claims in President Donald Trump’s United States.

    But the federal Liberal government has come under fire from political opponents for not taking more aggressive action on the issue. This week the opposition Conservatives and NDP demanded an emergency study of the government’s response.
    Ottawa has also butted heads with Ontario’s new populist government under Premier Doug Ford. Ford and his immigration minister blamed the Liberals for creating a “mess” and demanded they cover the cost.
    Canada and the United States have an agreement under which asylum seekers who try to cross at formal ports of entry are turned around and told to apply in the first country they arrived in. People have crossed illegally between those formal crossings, where the agreement does not apply. Once in Canada they have a right to file refugee claims.
