[Well, I guess the big question du jour is whose bygone trysts are the most damning – a previous president's, verified and while in office; or the current president's, alleged and before he took office. The French are laughing their butts off that the puritan Americans, especially the secular humanist progressives, are making such a fuss over it, to the point of impeachability. gjr]

Do “family values” or even “biblical values” mean anything to the “conservatives” any more? If not, your whole sanctity of life merit badge gets flushed down the drain. Or, do the “conservatives” get to pick and choose which biblical values they ascribe to on any given time on any given day and that’s okay with God.
Don’t “answer” with some BS about what about Bill, Hillary . . . Kennedy (pick a red herring)

Of course you are correct; however, the conservatives chose to hitch their wagon to Christian and Family values. It is their claimed identity and at least since Reagan us non conservatives have been battered over the head with your “righteousness.”
Of course the same conservatives have now chosen to identify themselves as “patriots” and anyone who doesn’t agree with their party’s dogma is nearly guilty of treason. Us against them. Them being anyone not in the Christian Republican empire.

That was generally a straw man tossed back at the GOP by Dems. At least that’s what I thought at the time, being neither DEM or GOP.

Ah, the Crusades again. They always bring that up, every time. When I was in college, I wrote a paper about Christian missionaries making the darkies wear clothing, which kinda wiped some of the natives out because they had no natural defense to the viruses and diseases that clothing trapped some toxic bacteria on therir skins. The law of unintended consequences for the sake of Victorian modesty. And, of course, the small pox blankets passed out to the Redskins here in North America. And lets not forget the CA missions on El Camino de la Luz, one day’s mule ride apart…built by the slave/forced labor of the captured indigenousness tribes, aka, the half naked folk. The acron eaters.
Then my studies of hating on Christianity took me to the real gold mine Foxe’s Book of Martyrs when folks were slaughter for reading the Bible which the Catholic Church put the good book under lock and key, only to be opened by the enlightened clergy. Many were killed for “calling on the name of the Lord” with faces aglow, just like Stephen.
Well, all that finger pointing and condemnation got me nowhere, except smug righteousness and looking down on others…..to neatly avoid that my own life was a wreck, drifting aminless like a ship without a rudder, content in my holier than thou attitude and wholesale condemnation.
The biggest threat today to the gays, civil rights, women, children, etc, does not come from the Christian Right. It comes from Islamo-fascists and the alt-Left.
Yes, I pointed out the evils of the Crusades and slammed Christians and Christianity for that since 1971, lol. The Crusades? Lasted 300 years, starting around 1200 AD…800 years ago.

And so the fall begins –
A federal judge on Friday harshly rebuked Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team during a hearing for ex-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort – suggesting they lied about the scope of the investigation, are seeking “unfettered power” and are more interested in bringing down the president.
The judge also gave the government two weeks to hand over the unredacted “scope memo” or provide an explanation why not — after prosecutors were reluctant to do so, claiming it has material that doesn’t pertain to Manafort.

“You are either with us or against us” preached by an avid Christian conservative.
Are you a Christian conservative Todd? How many times are you allowed to commit adultery and still be considered a good Christian conservative? Can you put a number on it? Or is yours the kind of religion where you can defile the 10 commandments, pay a toll at the alter for forgiveness, and then come Monday morning spend your get out of jail free card for another week of adultery and bestiality?

Well, life would be less cumbersome if those beastly males would just zip it up. Finances and romances are the two top reasons of divorce. sex and money, $ and sex.
I feel that financial infidelity does as much destruction to a relationship than sexual infidelity, if not more. One partner has a spending problem, hides it from the mate, lies about it, and ruins all trust. Known many a person who finds out later their mate has secretly run up 20k-50k in credit card debt, and worse. Then dodging creditors and still runs to the ATM to do Impulse Buying…allthewhile hiding it from their beloved mate.
This is after the couple has sat down together, set a budget and goals to attain, save for the rainy day fund and their future in the Golden Years. All gone, only deceit and deception remains. One spouse financially cheats and ruins all trust, respect, and mortgages their future for selfish reasons. They say respect is the ornament t on the tree of love.
In a perfect world, couples would never cheat on the other….and then try to cover it up. In some cases, it is probably better to not confess to the unknowing spouse because of the damage it does to the unsuspecting mate…if it was a one-off. The man’s confession to rid his guilt can indeed do not harm than good. Very complicated topics.
Yep, if people would just stop buggering each other outsides the confines of Holy Matrimony, then life would be less complicated for sure. And some guys get so horney that the crack of dawn ain’t safe. And there is the allure of tasting the forbidden fruit..for both man and woman.
As former Governor of Colorado Roy Romer once uttered (caught on audio tape), if gays would stop buggering each other, the AIDS epidemic would disappear.
If only life’s problems were that simple.
There is something about powerful men and men in power that have these powerful sex drives….from sports stars, to celebrities, to CEOs, to politicians. A well documented correlation.

Paul, the non-judgmental voice of reason sez:
“I get it, your Christian thing. You must be referring to the Crusades or the Catholic infestation of South America that led to the genocide of native peoples. Good job Scenes.”
Exactly. It doesn’t much matter to me that Mesoamerica was filled with cultures that make the Spanish Inquisition look like Mr. Rogers, comparing relative virtues of a people is something of a waste of time. The Spanish did a bonafide job of conquering and then were mostly swept up in a demographics wave from the locals.
An alternative view is that there is some idea of ‘native’ people. Of course, the folks who make that argument have no clue that the Sioux aren’t native to their current chunk of land, the Bantu only recently showed up in South Africa, Arabs and Islam are fairly new to most of their region.
In any case, I appreciate the difference in opinion. My own philosophy is that you got to dance with them what brung you. The traditional West strikes me as something worth saving. The other half of the electorate is a mish-mash of identity politics who want to dance on (and feed off of) the corpse.

The bind that ties all of the above is an insatiable ego driven by deep insecurities. Once on top they believe the rules no longer apply to them and they are immune to the rules. When the chickens come home to roost, as a certainly supervisor will attest, they fall from the top and bloom is off the rose. They become mere mortals and are unable to achieve the “greatness” they once felt belonged to them. They end up their pitiful lives trying to assuage their egos and mask the insecurities with improper sex, drugs, and other acts of self destruction. When they look into the mirror they alone see themselves as great, when the rest of us look at them with pity and scorn.

WASHINGTON — John Kerry’s bid to save one of his most significant accomplishments as secretary of state took him to New York on a Sunday afternoon two weeks ago, where, more than a year after he left office, he engaged in some unusual shadow diplomacy with a top-ranking Iranian official.
He sat down at the United Nations with Foreign Minister Javad Zarif to discuss ways of preserving the pact limiting Iran’s nuclear weapons program. It was the second time in about two months that the two had met to strategize over salvaging a deal they spent years negotiating during the Obama administration, according to a person briefed on the meetings.

You know, that could be, although my own mind reading abilities are poor.
The thing is, something like that may well be necessary to actually get things done. Everyone else follows in the wake of crazy, accomplished people.
I strongly suspect that that is also strongly tied to gender, with one result being a (probably) permanent lack of women at the top of the heap.

Quotes: Saved the best for last, but the first one is kinda on the current theme.
“If they had the chance, I actually think the Democrats would put a crown of thorns on Trump’s head, make him carry his own cross and send him to be crucified. On national TV.” —Michael Reagan
Re: the Left: “The idea that partisans and journalists who’ve made a living using favorable leaks regarding the investigations into the Trump administration are suddenly concerned about the sanctity of a criminal investigation is ludicrous.” —David Harsanyi
For the record: “Some Democrats complained about [Mike] Pompeo’s stances on gay issues. But they’re the party that blocked for seven months the nomination of a gay ambassador to Germany, Ric Grenell.” —Michael Barone
Upright: “If Trump wants to succeed, he must want a deal less than Kim [Jong-un] does. He must be willing to walk away and to make Kim understand that he is serious about a military option if negotiations fail. He can’t do so if he is even remotely thinking about a Nobel. Winning a Nobel Prize is irrelevant. Reagan never got a Nobel, but he is remembered as the president who brought about the peaceful collapse of the Soviet Union and won the Cold War. Barack Obama, by contrast, won a Nobel Prize just nine months after taking office for doing nothing (except not being George W. Bush). Simply by forcing North Korea to the negotiating table, Trump has already done more to deserve the prize than Obama did.” —Marc A. Thiessen
The equivalent of asking for war: “Reinstating the federal assault weapons ban that was in effect from 1994 to 2004 would prohibit manufacture and sales, but it would not affect weapons already possessed. This would leave millions of assault weapons in our communities for decades to come. Instead, we should ban possession of military-style semiautomatic assault weapons, we should buy back such weapons from all who choose to abide by the law, and we should criminally prosecute any who choose to defy it by keeping their weapons.” —Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA)

“Rep. Eric Swalwell: (D- CA[of course]) Reinstating the federal assault weapons ban that was in effect from 1994 to 2004 would prohibit manufacture and sales, ”
nah. As I remember, it was just a few cosmetic things. Easy enough to design around.
Aah, here we go:
https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-103hr3355enr/pdf/BILLS-103hr3355enr.pdf
(B) a semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept
a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of—
(i) a folding or telescoping stock;
(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath
the action of the weapon;
(iii) a bayonet mount;
(iv) a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed
to accommodate a flash suppressor; and
(v) a grenade launcher;
I mean, seriously, who writes these things? The funny thing is how the Legend of the Assault Rifle Ban has grown into something it never was.
The dumbest one was the 1989 Federal rule, though.
