[It's tax season, and those of us who pay taxes are paying huge amounts. The top 20% of earners pay 87% of the nation's income taxes (see graphic), and a lot, and I do mean a lot more of total taxes when you consider state income taxes for states like California. More here. gjr]

Nothing new. Who would you suggest pay these taxes?
The one and only hope that I had when our current political class came to office was some sort of grip on spending. When I hear the Pubbers on this page dismiss a 30 billion dollar highly questionable expense as a pittance, and blithely add 1.3 trillion to our budget (is debt ceiling a “thing” any longer in this Republican congress??) I understand that my hopes were for naught.
If the people with money don’t pay the taxes, who will?

Our leftwing friends have made it very clear since the new fed budget was signed that had the Dems been in power, they would have been much more parsimonious, and added a lot less than the Repub’s $1.3T to the national debt over the next ten years. As support for that contention, I’m sure they’ll offer the thrift they practiced during the Obama years.

3-limited capacity magazine (no clip) (pick a number, 10-12 rounds seems adequate for any shooting I’ve ever done)
4-put in place a system to perform background investigations initiated by people worried about the mental capacity of a gun owner.
5-mandatory prison time and life long forfeiture of gun ownership, for anyone found illegally possessing a gun or illegal components.

Why 10 rounds? Is it a number pulled out of a hat? If this is a negotiation, how about 20?
The Browning Hi-Power pistol, the last handgun design of John Browning, had from the first a 13 round magazine standard, the first of the ‘wonder nines’, about equivalent to having two 38 caliber revolvers in shots and rate of fire. Many millions were sold. Glocks were designed to hold 17 rounds. The fixed magazine of the first production semiautomatic, the “Broomhandle” Mauser C96, was 10 but many were made to hold 20 rounds in their fixed (not removable) magazine.
The Mauser, first produced 122 years ago and lauded by Winston Churchill, is immortalized in Star Wars as Han Solo’s blaster, which has had the unfortunate effect of collectible C96s in original condition being sold to movie fans who then had them carved up and ugly bits added to look like the movie props.

just to dig in a little bit.
“I don’t see that written or implied.”
So it should be illegal to have an 11 round magazine for a bolt action rifle? What purpose does that serve?
Keep in mind that magazine restrictions really don’t change the rate of fire all that much if you are mayhem oriented and it messes with practically any available magazine fed firearm (I assume you mean removable magazines…a subquestion is whether that restriction applies to fixed magazines).
I’m not sure they even make 10 round magazines for most 9mm handguns or .308 semiauto rifles. The former because there’s no advantage and the latter because they are not well supported.
My guess is that the fascination with the number of rounds in a bent sheet metal enclosure is that it’s one of the few things that a number can be applied to.

10 is a number. I think it is more acceptable than a one round single shot to the pro gun crowd and more acceptable than a belt fed feature or 60 round clips to the anti gun crowd. I tossed out a number I would personally find reasonable for any target application, and more than legal in many hunting applications. Toss out a number that both sides might agree upon.

As a practical matter, probably 20 (not sure). I’m not familiar with all the handgun sizes. Not that it makes any difference in lethality really. It’s definitely more of a nuisance at a range to use small sizes. Reliability suffers they bigger they get in any case…you can argue that you go to a minimum of 40 rounds.
The fewer people you make destroy their stuff, the more that could be nudged over. Not everybody is a 2nd amendment champion so some might be convinced…although at this point I’m not sure. After a year of Trumphate, Team Red is not much for giving in.
The Five-seveN people would be aggrieved, but that’s a small group. As an aside, it’s worth considering that those are probably optimal for mayhem (used at Ft. Hood). Dunno what the fixation on AR15 pattern rifles is all about.

Nice try, jonnie boy – back to the drawing board.
And jonnie – good luck with the registration thingie. The lefties at Kos and Mother Jones have already gone on record as saying that registration is simply the first step in all out confiscation. History has already born that out. Facts are stubborn things, jonnie boy.
If you want to stop gun violence, start with the criminals, not the law abiding citizens.

You win Scott, I guess 10 rounds isn’t restrictive enough for you – lets try 3 rounds. . . it worked on us duck hunters. To bust your bubble, the Florida shooter had a bag full of pre loaded clips. You conveniently “forgot” that part of my suggestion. If he had to thumb load between shootings it might have slowed things down just a teensy weensy bit and perhaps a few more kids would be walking around today to protest. No jonnie boy – you can’t read. Murderers tend to not care about your rules.
The AR15 type of rifle uses a system of detachable magazines. ‘Clips’ are used with rifles such as the SKS. I realize some folks call the detachable mags ‘clips’ but then that confuses the issue because it doesn’t differentiate between a method of holding the ammo in a clip until the ammo is inserted into the fixed magazine vs a separate detachable magazine.
At any rate, my point stands that if you want to stop criminals, go after the criminals and leave the law abiding citizens alone.
It seems your biggest beef is with Moonbeam Brown. Go yell at him.

Scenes. Heidi Hall is a county supervisor. When she introduced herself to the public via The Union, her pics showed her standing in an all female group with her mentor and supporter Nancy Peloski. Nancy groomed her gals. A big selling point. Her resume is chock full of being a valued State employee of various Eco departments. All green and all blue.
Hilary Hodge is running for County Supervisor. She used to have a column in The Union in which she took great pains to let everyone know she is a lesbian. Oh wow. After about 20 times, I think she got her point across. Ok, you are a lesbian, as if that makes any matter. Got it. Hilary is a lesbo. Now, what other qualifications does she have besides being a delagate to the CA Dem Convention? Oh yeah. If you do not park your car in a parking spot exactly parallel to the lines, she will roll her eyes and show you exactly how a car should be parked. That’s kinda quirky, IMHO.
And she (Hilary with one L) worries about her Latinx niece since Donald Trump became President and wonders which of her neighbors and community members voted for Donald Trump. How could they!! Is it the clerk at the market? Is it that man over there? Who are they, which closet racists are lurking behind their smiles and greetings to her? Her safe place of Nevada County will never feel safe again. Could it be her mailman that voted for Trump? Someone who lives on her Mother’s Street?
Hey, I have been to Hollywood, I have been to Redwood. I have been in the seediest gay bars from coast to coast (cheaper drinks) and in the highest of high high class gay establishments. No problem, ever. But, it was not til Hilary started writing columns that I have ever had to be reminded over and over and over again by any gay friend or acquaintance that they are gay….until Hilary H found it necessary to tell the reader she is gay. Got it. Got it ten times ago.
Oh yeah, Hilary said Hillary Clinton was the most qualified candidate ever ever ever to run for President in our nation’s history. The reason HRC lost is Because a Woman is not allowed to break the glass ceiling….alas, oh what to tell our litte girls now. Nothing to do with the fact people (Dems, R’s, Indies) do not like My Gal HRC and to this very hour people still do not like My Gal. Heck, even Bubba still does not like her.
