I think this notion of making a car which has got nearly 100 percent utilization in the United States is a bit bizarre. I think it should have never been moved.

“Repatriation of the heavy-duty Ram was owed. We had to correct the mistake of 2008,” Marchionne said.

“We are working in an environment which is a lot more beneficial, that’s much more pro-business than it’s been in a long time. Tax reform is going to compensate some of the cost differential in building the car here, as opposed to building it in Mexico,” Marchionne said

What amazes me is after 8 years Obama said ISIS will never be decimated. Only took Maddog 10 months….after the chains from the previous administration where removed. Same with the economy. We were told anemic growth was the new normal. That was until Trump start taking the previous administration’s shackles off the economy.
Wonder what year two will look like? Trump makes it look too easy. He just needs a month to accomplish what others take years to do..without the luxury of his full team in place clicking on all cylinders.

Under the ‘trump hasn’t emboldened white supremacists” category — according to a report by the Anti-defamantion League: In 2017 59% of hate crime murders were committed by white supremacists.. a 157% increase in the number of murders compared to 2016. In 2016 only 7 hate crime murders were committed by white supremacists. In 2017 that number rose to 18. Islamic extremists committed 9 murders in 2017. Over the past 10 years, right wing extremists have murdered 274 out of a total of 387 murders attributed to extremists in all categories. That is seventy-one percent of all hate crime murders. We really need to watch out for those damn jihadists from Muslim countries and spend billions of tax dollars ferreting them out and/or keeping them out of the country. Don’t forget there were bad hombres on both sides in Charlottesville, right?

Just a quick thought on the upcoming ICE fandango in the Bay Area.
I can see the sense in that it is part of an escalation between the state and federal government, the former wishing to essentially ignore immigration law, but I was thinking along different lines.
It seem to me that if the federal government really ramped up enforcement efforts in neighboring states, they could probably force movement into California. You might end up with a more efficient kind of Kesselschlacht once the illegal aliens are all in one place.
You do have to wonder if the next logical step in all of this is armed confrontation between federal agents and SFPD, although I suppose that the city police rank and file would be uninterested in carrying through the politics of their superiors.

It’s obviously more PR move than anything. Enforcing existing immigration law strikes me as an election winner in most places, especially in a Presidential race. It’s kind of similar to gun law. The Green Libertarians can’t really go head-on in either area and succeed in a national sense.
Perhaps that explains Paul’s strong preference to fixate solely on Trump’s personal life (and his need to give his fifi a workout). It’s hard to win on the ground on the policy issues (tax law, foreign policy, immigration, guns, rollback of stupid Obama policies) so what is left is trying to continuously attract the dogs with a new tennis ball.
I just mention this since Mr Emery’s stance appears to be the sole remaining strategy of the Democratic Party nationally. This blog is the national debate writ small.
It’s interesting to watch a powerful movement that’s devoid of central principles. It makes sense when you view Team Blue as a temporary alliance of interest groups, all of whom have differing strong goals. The ‘Republicans’ have some chance of maintaining a core belief system, which appears to be slowly re-aligning now.
Nationalism vs globalism is an interesting play to watch, but that globalism is largely a chimera I think, mostly held in the minds of multinational corporate execs and California (and German) liberals. The fascination with vibrant diversity you see in parts of the West is largely a Trojan Horse for a hundred new nations, each trying to carve out a chunk of the existing ones.

Oakland just made another rule change that states that local police are forbidden from keeping public order at an ICE raid. The city of Oakland wants violence at the ICE raids. I hope it doesn’t end up in violence, but you have to wonder what kind of govt official passes a rule like that. Those officials, of course, won’t be anywhere near the action. Funny about that.

ScottO 1107am – Not funny at all in my mind. It is simply A21 in action. To destroy (aka “fundamentally change”) America, you must first give rise to extreme divisions in its people (legal and illegal), and make as many of them as possible dependent on government handouts. When one applies that global doctrine to the internal politics of nations, it is amazing how easy it is to predict its public policies, media reactions, and public behaviors.

Back when Calif. was still a law abiding state, working down in the valley we got to see CBP in action all the time. Spring and Summer was landscaper chasing season. We would see immigration SUVs starting to close in slowly, or parked behind fences and bushes.
Then like at the dog track, the chase was on. Even local cops looked forward to the festivities.
Some of us did our part too. ” HAY!! You might want to check that manhole over there!” Doo,Doo,Doo,,, another one on the bus!!
