Paul. Where you at burning man when “O” stated that Afghanistan was a “just war. That’s where we need to be.” And did just that. Sent in even more troops.
Now didn’t you tell me a while back that we should be fighting the enemy in our own streets and not theirs? Wait for them to come here?
Fish. You can’t pick a day the war, or any war, will be over. This is a new style of fighting. Our enemy wears no uniform. No rules of established war.(Geneva convention out the window) No one is off limits. They target the innocent.
So cutting and running is going to accomplish just what? ” Wars over, coming over for drinks later?” To end any war takes all they players to agree.
So. Running like the British running at the battle of New Orleans is asking for trouble.

Well, that’s the thing. A weaponized criminal justice system (or IRS) can be a pretty blunt instrument that can pick up anybody. In the cold civil war, anything is fair game so there’s no point in being upset one way or the other. Moralizing on these matters is a waste of time.
As a related matter, the main tell for the Russians not being particularly involved in the 2016 campaign (no more so than usual anyway) is that there’s obviously an information MAD going on between states. I have no doubt that the Russians could bring down practically any US public official, and the US could do the same to them, if they started dumping what they really have. There would be wigs on the green.

Just to expand slightly. The surveillance and information wars may achieve some kind of truce between states, but there is a huge imbalance between individuals, or even political parties, and the nomenklatura of the 17 intelligence agencies.
Seriously, how could they possibly resist the temptation of actually using the data they’ve gleaned. Between the new opportunities built into the technology and the tiny fig leaf given for universal domestic surveillance, it’s all there for the abusing. It doesn’t even take the years of Obama political hires to give you folks who are willing to go to holy war against the invented evil o’ the day…or just make sure that their budget doesn’t get cut.

-No Obamacare repeal: that is Congress’s job.
-No tax reform. Again, that is Congress’s job, and also not on the table until Sept.
-No wall? Again, Congress holds the purse strings. Not on the calander until a future date, probably late September. Congress controls the calander. Meanwhile, Trump exploring alternative sources of funding.
-No withdraw from Afghanistan. Not today, no timetable revealed given the advice of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, experts, and horrible Obama recent history. A reasonable explanation:
“My original instinct was to pull out — and, historically, I like following my instincts. But all my life I’ve heard that decisions are much different when you sit behind the desk in the Oval Office; in other words, when you’re President of the United States. So I studied Afghanistan in great detail and from every conceivable angle. After many meetings, over many months, we held our final meeting last Friday at Camp David, with my Cabinet and generals, to complete our strategy. I arrived at three fundamental conclusions about America’s core interests in Afghanistan.”
Second, the consequences of a rapid exit are both predictable and unacceptable. 9/11, the worst terrorist attack in our history, was planned and directed from Afghanistan because that country was ruled by a government that gave comfort and shelter to terrorists. A hasty withdrawal would create a vacuum that terrorists, including ISIS and al Qaeda, would instantly fill, just as happened before September 11th.
And, as we know, in 2011, America hastily and mistakenly withdrew from Iraq. As a result, our hard-won gains slipped back into the hands of terrorist enemies. Our soldiers watched as cities they had fought for, and bled to liberate, and won, were occupied by a terrorist group called ISIS. The vacuum we created by leaving too soon gave safe haven for ISIS to spread, to grow, recruit, and launch attacks. We cannot repeat in Afghanistan the mistake our leaders made in Iraq.
Third and finally, I concluded that the security threats we face in Afghanistan and the broader region are immense. Today, 20 U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organizations are active in Afghanistan and Pakistan — the highest concentration in any region anywhere in the world.”
Trump explained why he changed his mind, does not deny he changed mind, and the reasons for it,
Telling the enemy when or if we will pull out would create a vacumn for ISIS. We will just keep killing ragheads all day long until we decide the proper time to pull out. As new information is received and digested, things will change. Until then, I will fly 10,000 miles to smoke a camel. The mission is to kill ragheads. Kill as many as necessary, with abandon.
Geeze, Punchy, it took an act of Congress to block Trump’s agenda so far. Too bad you cannot say the same thing about your propensity to “lie” and to it again. I know, you don’t remember. And your explanation for not keeping your word is…is…is….what exactly? I am all ears.

A MAJOR LOSS FOR THE FEDS: Jury refuses to convict in Bundy ranch standoff.
A federal jury in Las Vegas refused Tuesday to convict four defendants who were retried on accusations that they threatened and assaulted federal agents by wielding assault weapons in a 2014 confrontation to stop a cattle roundup near the Nevada ranch of states’ rights figure Cliven Bundy.
In a stunning setback to federal prosecutors planning to try the Bundy family patriarch and two adult sons later this year, the jury acquitted Ricky Lovelien and Steven Stewart of all 10 charges, and delivered not-guilty findings on most charges against Scott Drexler and Eric Parker.

Ain’t into wild predictions this far out, but this one popped out. I read the 5/38 data earlier, a few days ago, but this link puts it all together in a nice format. 2018 will be upon us soon enough, whether we are ready or not.
This reminds me of someone, something have heard before on these pages: Cut and run?
“Some Democrats think they lost because struggling white Americans were fooled into thinking Trump would help them, and so they’ll turn against the president when their economic situations don’t improve. That’s a sociology professor’s fantasy of American politics that completely misses the cultural factors for Trump’s win – and Hillary Clinton’s loss.”
And this sounds like deja vu all over again
5) Most importantly, conventional wisdom has lost its wisdom. For the last year and a half, the experts have constantly told us that NOW American politics is reverting to normal. The point to faulty historical trends, flawed polls, and irrelevant electoral data – misreading the Zeitgeist and gaping bewildered at the Trump phenomenon. At this point when I hear an expert predict doom for the GOP I automatically presume the opposite will happen, since the last time they got it right, Trump was still hosting a reality show. Just you watch.

JOHN HINDERAKER: Barack Obama’s Legacy of Lies and Broken Promises on Afghanistan.
“On issue after issue, Barack Obama passed the buck, making the situation worse than he found it and leaving his successor to pick up the pieces. Health care, military preparedness, the national debt, Iran, Iraq, Syria, North Korea and Afghanistan are some of the instances that come to mind. What is galling is that because he is a Democrat, Obama was never held accountable for his fecklessness (or worse). The press, and the establishment in general, allowed him to skate. . . . Barack Obama’s administration was a horrific failure in just about every way, but he has had the press running interference for him for eight years and counting. His lies and broken promises about Afghanistan are a sobering reminder of what a poor job he did as president.”
