[Apologies for the delay in providing fresh sand. It is interesting to continue the discussion of the Fat Kid's threats in response to which our Left wants to go through the next cycle of appeasement, so that when another 5-7 years have gone by NK really has the capability to concurrently launch multiple missiles with survivable warheads. The people counseling a diplomatic solution to the current 'crisis' are firing intellectual blanks – they propose nothing new and fully succumb to Einsteinian Stupidity by repeating the same thing while expecting different results. gjr]

Scenes 635pm – By now you should know what I believe the geo-political aims of international Left are. The reduction of the US to second world peerage is job one, and that can only be done by abrogating the Westphalian convention of sovereign nation-states that begins with porous borders, multi-culturalism (non-assimilation), and the destruction of existing forms of constitutional governance. The rest will follow naturally.
ToddJ 832am – You didn’t look hard enough. Always go to Main and scroll down, or just type in Norm Sauer in the left panel search box. It’s one of those computer things 😉

PaulE 927am – I believe you are grossly in error. Yes, Trump did again warn NK after NK did AGAIN threaten to launch against Guam and cited cities on the US mainland. Attempting to parrot the Left’s latest distortion on Trump is part and parcel of the continued smoke screen by the political faction that has nothing more than overt sniping to offer to the national dialogue either in domestic policies or foreign affairs. Now they are promoting again promoting Einsteinian Insanity as the solution to the NK stand-off. In short, what is YOUR point?

If Trump gave a shit about South Korea he could at least name an ambassador. 200 days in still no SK Ambassador in sight
“As the Doomsday Clock ticks toward thermonuclear Armageddon, relations between South Korean and the United States have taken on increased importance. United against a pudgy despot, Washington and Seoul must always know what each other is thinking.
10 Ways You Can Model the Success of Millionaires

But if South Korean President Moon Jae-In calls the U.S. Embassy, an ambassador won’t answer. President Trump never named one.
“It’s a huge deal. First of all, when you think about the stakes in play over in North Korea, we absolutely need someone there who is representing us interest,” says Harry Kazianis, Director of Defense Studies at the Center for the National Interest. “This should’ve been one of the first appointments of the Trump administration. I can’t imagine why it wasn’t.”
Disagreeing with Kazianis is difficult, and blaming anyone except Trump is impossible. While the president made sure to nominate the executive of the Los Angeles Dodgers as ambassador to France and the owner of the New York Jets as ambassador to England, he skipped over the Korean peninsula completely.’

Don is cherry picking polls. The RCP average shows Trump at 38%, lowest in history at 200 days. Interestingly enough the IBD/TIPP poll shows Trump down by 27$ with only 32% support. They were the most accurate poll in last years election,
“The most accurate poll that surveyed likely voters was the Investor’s Business Daily poll, a poll that has one of the finest records for calling races in recent political history. It was one of the only polls that called the race for Trump in the final days of the election, giving him 45 percent of the vote compared to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. ”

Some time ago in these pages I suggested that our first phase response to NK would be to position Aegis ships off its east coast and use the fat kid’s ICBM tests to test our own anti-missile capabilities in shooting them down during their boost phase. (I realize that Aegis was designed for countering incoming warheads, but it does also have the ability to intercept laterally moving targets.) The ramifications of this response have been aired here (e.g. what if we miss?), but such an action would be carried out over international waters and applauded by our allies. This tactic is now also being discussed by the talking heads, since it is a measured and staged response way short of putting warheads and/or troops on NK soil.
I’m not surprised by PaulE (ably representing the Left’s role in such discussions) doing a diversionary pirouette in his 1116am.

Trying to put a smiley on Trumps poll numbers is a fools errand.
What I have been saying is emulating Obama’s tact in Syria is making Trump look like a fool since it opens the door for NK to taunt his and do nothing but talk to make him look bad and do nothing,
I think you’re idea to do target practice on missle tests is brilliant. Too bad Trump didn’t have such mental resources. The latest “mutter one threat” will be challenged within days and Trump will do nothing so where will that leave him?

Fish, explain to me why the issue of not having a SK Ambassador in sight 200 days into his term is minutia?
First off Punch we know that the democrats (and frankly more than a few republicans) are arm twisting in order to slow walk all the presidential appointments. Second the position of Ambassador is so important, so vital, so absolutely crucial to the diplomatic efforts of the United States that they are routinely awarded to political flaks and big donors in gratitude for getting the latest mouth breathing idiot installed in the Oval Office.
Spare me yet another afternoon of Punch-E style pearl clutching!

One more from the history books.
The North Korean problem would have been taken care of in the 1950’s had Democrat President Harry S. Truman not fired Five Star General Douglas MacArthur.
Dems started the Vietnam war too, and didn’t finish the job, so the Left is 0 and 2 in the fighting dept. But batting 1000 at tail tucking and running.
Bubba could have had OBL’s head given to him on a plate, but refused. So one could say Clinton allowed 911 to happen. But he did blow up an aspirin factory while getting blown.
We had to go back to the Gulf because the whining LIBS refused to allow Bush to finish the job the first time. ” OH MYYYyyyy. There are dead people on the roads for all to see!!”
“WE gotta stop the killing by Bush! ” Yup,, that worked out swell. Saddam uses chem weapons on his own people.

Paul, for that interpretation to hold and for you to keep a semblance of integrity, you’ll have to wait until Trump to drop below 38% approval (the number on 2 Aug, nine days ago, to again claim he’s “down”. Will you be able to hold your glee if he drops half-way to there tomorrow?

All Trump did was make a couple of potholes in an obscure airbase in Syria that were quickly repaired and back in service in no time.
“Syrian warplanes took off from the air base hit by US cruise missiles yesterday to carry out bombing raids on rebel-held areas, in a defiant show of strength.
Just hours after the al-Shayrat airfield was bombed with 59 US Tomahawk cruise missiles fired from warships in the Mediterranean, aircraft struck targets in the eastern Homs countryside, according to a monitoring group……it is thought that an advance warning given by the US to Russia allowed Syria enough time to remove many of its aircraft before the raid.

Oh, I remember Punch-E all upset when Trump struck Syria without his pre-approval and warning. Why, why, why, why. My answer was the element of surprise, something that sticks in the back of an adversaries mind.
Perhaps it was not about chemical weapons in and off themselves. Maybe a line in the sand. You crossed it, you get rapid response. No bluffs. Thus, it was sending a powerful message that we are just crazy enough to mean what we say.
But, the firing of missiles into Syria brought forth much fruit (Intel) that I am more in interested in for future use than blowing up a few buildings in reghead land. Not all 59(?) Tomahawk Missles made it through the Russian placed defensive batteries. Maybe half were shot down, maybe 29, maybe less, maybe. These anti-missle/anti aircraft defensive batteries are the new generation of Russian made weapons, the exact same ones now placed in Iran.
Remember Turkey shooting down the Russian jet flying over a far flung narrow finger of its terrority? Russians jets flew over that narrow finger many times, but suddenly Turkey fired at one and brought it down. After a couple of days of harsh words between Turkey and Russia, the whole incident was up in some file and buried. Not a perp since. Well, that is how the elitist pundits saw it.
I saw it differently. Turkey would have never shot down the Russian fighter without approval of NATO, aka, the US. Never. The US had never seen the 4th generation of Russian anti-aircraft systems in operations before. After the jet incident, the Soviet Military immediately moved its new babies into the region. Bingo! They fell for the ploy. Now we can buzz them and find out exactly what those babies can do, what there capabilities are. You know, what Saddam has, what Iran has, what our enemies have. The bombing of some chemical weapon storage depots far away from any populated areas should us what those Russian babies can to.
So, two things happened when we pot holed a runway. (I assume the reader is well aware that Tomahawk Missles are not designed to take out runways like cluster bombs and other munitions are.) Nay, they take out buildings, but I digress.
First, we will do what we say we will IF we chose to, if a line is crossed. We will take action or inaction at our timing, our terms, when we want. We decided, nobody else decides when, where, what for us.
Second, now we know more of the capabilities of the 4th generation Russian defensive batteries.
It’s never as simple as black and white, yes or no. There are many components to the moving part.

This last is a funny thing really. Do you let the North Koreans get away with things in perpetuity? at what time do you stop? The longer you let the situation fester (like monetary policy) the worse it will be when everything breaks down, or you can hope that the Eternal Leader of Juche Korea gets hit on the head by a general and you deal with a junta instead of a crazy dude.
