[Apologies for the delay in providing fresh sand.  It is interesting to continue the discussion of the Fat Kid's threats in response to which our Left wants to go through the next cycle of appeasement, so that when another 5-7 years have gone by NK really has the capability to concurrently launch multiple missiles with survivable warheads.  The people counseling a diplomatic solution to the current 'crisis' are firing intellectual blanks – they propose nothing new and fully succumb to Einsteinian Stupidity by repeating the same thing while expecting different results.  gjr]

PaulE 1249pm old sandbox – That NK’s first nuclear test was under Bush2 must evoke another instance of your special logic; pray tell, what conclusion do you draw from that factoid? Everyone else, please fasten your seat belts.

The Paul sez: “First North Korean nuclear test was under bush’s watch. Do you deny that Scenes?”
I couldn’t tell you. What do you consider a nuclear ‘test’? Perhaps you could run through the set of steps from chalkboard to a fully operational device for us. It might have been under Bush II, but actually throwing a switch is the easy part.
Truth is, Clinton left something of a mess for his successor, like any good President. A better argument would be what Bush Sr. did wrong that Clinton couldn’t clean up, and in fact made quite a lot worse. I suspect that it would be impossible to find a really good bottleneck where this could have been avoided. A country like the US has to be willing to lose 10’s (or 100’s) of thousands of casualties in order to truly bring NK to heel. That’s after Seoul gets whacked on a bit, you might want to ask GeorgeR what the likely effect of the estimated NK artillery barrage would be.
You probably ought to be planning that war with Russia first before the high strategy for blaming Republicans for the various Kims starts up.

Harry J Kazianis is the perfect western mouthpiece for the Fat Kid. In β€˜A war with North Korea would be hell – And the aftermath even worse’ he lays out how he and the Fat Kid would want us to consider what would happen if we don’t back down and let NK go through the next cycle of advanced WMD development. Mind boggling how much of this tripe is coming down the pipe.

All that appeasement we did with NK worked great. Right Paul?
Lil’ Kim forgets he’s not dealing with “O”. No extortion payment will be coming.
Now that fatboy has said he will “do something” (launch missiles Paul,,) his people will expect that to happen. What will he tell them if he doesn’t? He needs to save face.. One way,,,, or another.
Kim can’t back down as I see it. His own people will use him as target practice.
They don’t think like we do. Those people have no problem dying for their leader. As far as they are concerned, that’s a great honor.
LIBS always underestimate the enemy. No,,, “talking to them and apologizing” never works.

    And how people think now.
Clinton would go on to negotiate an β€œAgreed Framework” in 1994 that was hailed as a way to prevent North Korea from getting a nuclear weapon, a deal that is now widely accepted as being a complete failure.

    Don’t read this part Paul…
From the outside, it looks to me like there has been little change in US foreign policy for a couple of decades. This hobby in remaking MIddle Eastern and Northern African countries has the look of a philosophy cooked up by some sort of professional government class that isn’t turned out from a mere election (except perhaps this last one, but that remains to be seen). The fact that there’s a tiny chance that the new administration isn’t going to have a fixation on tearing down existing power structures in third world nations to be replaced by tribal conflict is of no value to the Green Libertarians. I doubt that the point in all this is to create refugee tsunamis which then get to move north, but it might as well be since the result is the same.

The risk of producing a hot war with Russia, at least through surrogates, seems to be well worth the effort in the ongoing 2016 election. Whatever it takes to boot out Trump regardless of cost in blood or money.
I expect that the Russia thing might fizzle out now that we have the Impeach-Trump-cuz-he’s-mean-to-North-Korea story getting ginned up lickety split. It’s equally dangerous, this time due to conflicting signals being sent to Mr. Kim, but once again cost is no object.

Only a very dedicated leftwinger would take our president to task for responding to a certifiably insane and belligerent foreign leader threatening to put one of our sovereign territories into the middle of his missile test impact area. This has possibly been brought up some where, but I’ve never seen anything about it in any left or right wing news article.
China has for years now been dredging and ‘developing’ an island in the ocean in contested waters for the stated purpose of ‘scientific research’. What kind of ecological damage are they doing out there?
Where is Greenpeace? Where is PBS and their vaunted look into ecological damage to the fragile system in that area?
    Where is the ‘Green’ libertarian?
Photos of the island show absolutely no scientific research. It is clearly being used as a power grab of territory through devious means. It is patently obvious that China is continuing on a decades long course of extending their borders through violence, war and lies.
The rest of the world is strangely silent about all of this.
I say park the 7th Fleet offshore and offer to ‘help’ the Chinese govt with their stated goal of scientific research. Who would complain?

It’s probably a lot to ask a group of people to be on message all the time in all matters.
The ‘Livid Left’ in this case appears to be the subset of urban white professionals (and wanna-bes) who produce media, schooling, and most of the bitching. It’s certainly not all of the Left, but is good at grabbing the steering wheel for the whole coalition.
My own and probably over-simplistic model is that the Livid Left has a hierarchy of needs but nothing Maslow would recognize. This seems to be a transnational pyramid.
As an example hierarchy, unlimited immigration from the third world (and deification of non-Western cultures) is on top, followed by black issues (US only), LGBTQMNOP values, women’s issues, the environment, and at the bottom are social policies like taxes or healthcare. For instance, a political street fight between Muslim immigrants and a women’s group will always result in victory for the former.
So, environmental effects of an action (which can be real enough) are so low in the pyramid that they rarely get traction. The exception would be when you can make political hay in some more important issue.

“What a load of hooey! The author is critical of Mr. Sauer’s column claiming no backup yet I found not one link or piece of proof of fact in this. Typical liberal “do as I say, not as I do” way of thinking. All the issues of “voter suppression” are contained within the mind of Itara. The reason voter turnout is down is people are fed up with politics and the politicians. Not because Bruno is turning away a voter. And Bush v Gore is in the “wayback” and was roved by the numerous recounts Bush won. The SCOTUS simply said Gore could not cherry-pick the democrat counties and he must have a statewide recount. So he quit.
And Citizen’s United has all the liberals hearts aflutter. Eve though Trump was self-funded and Itara’s Hillary raised and spent one billion dollars must have been overlooked? My goodness, the democrats are on the run across America for reasons other than fraud or suppression. They have no decent agenda and Americans are fed up and moving to the party of ideas and hope.
