The Trumplet really blew it. Of course big daddy didn’t know. Even conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer can’t put a smiley on it.
” Contributing editor to the conservative Weekly Standard and Fox News panelist has blasted the defense being offered for the actions of Donald Trump, Jr.
Charles Krauthammer appeared Tuesday on “The Story” with Martha MacCallum and blasted President Donald Trump’s namesake child for his meeting with Kremlin-linked Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya.
“If you get a call to go to a certain place in the middle of the night to pick up stolen goods, and it turns out stolen goods don’t show up but the cops show up, I think you’re going to have a weak story saying, ‘well, I got swindled here,’” Krauthammer explained.
“The denial of collusion is very weak right now because it looks as if Don Junior was receptive to receiving this information,” Krauthammer explained. “It’s a hell of a defense to say your collusion wasn’t competent and it didn’t work out.”
“Come on, that is pathetic,” Krauthamer said of those making excuses for Trump, Jr.

Hang on a sec, this nothingburger is all about how Trump Jr. was willing to meet a lawyer who he thought was connected somehow to the Russians who might have some dirt on Hillary? I think that releasing the e-mail chain was a good thing. Basically, you are getting treated to a written record of what is essentially a spoken conversation. Stick a mic on anyone for a year and see what you come up with.
God knows what dirt the Russians actually have on Hillary. I expect that it’s more than some nonsense about her file handling capabilities or her main aide’s ties to the more exotic parts of Arab politics. lol. Just think about how deeply the Saudis or AIPAC are burrowed into US politics, the Russians have barely scratched the surface.
My own guess is that the intelligence agencies on both ‘sides’ (although it’s hard to view the Russians as the other side, the US has little to fight with them over and they are a small, resource-oriented, economic power) have so much dirt that a form of MAD is in effect. If they really let loose, the same would happen here. The end game is that the NSA/GRU actually end up running the whole show since they can blackmail anybody.

I had seen that from a different source. It would be easy to come to the conclusion that this whole Russian narrative was cooked up in the waning days of the Obama administration as a kind of counter-battery fire. That’s my own suspicion, but it’s nothing beyond that. The Paul serves as a kind of reminder of how unhealthy it is to build world views from looking at a little screen in a rural area.
Given that all the political firepower has been applied to the Russians-Are-Coming! fuss, you can argue that it has backfired. Someone with a novel approach to government (unlike the other Republican candidates) is off doing their thing while all the attention is still on campaign behaviors.

…finally, one bummer is that now I have to hear about the whole Chalupa/Ukraine/Clinton deal one more time. Team Red will drag it out again, Team Blue will explain how it’s really really different, blah blah blah.
One conclusion you can reach is that the media (and the people breathlessly hanging onto this Russiagate stuff) are children. When you are running for emperor, the amount of oppositions research and general dirty doings is phenomenal. Older lineages of power (like the Bush family or Clintons) will have more opportunities due to the hooks they have into the nomenklatura.
Better to argue about policy matters, but at the heart of it my gut feeling is that this is all a fight between the champions and the enemies of Western Civilization. The rest is just details.

Looking back at the comments here, it’s because Trump Jr. was interested in ‘the dirt on Hillary’, which is the story of the day. I also noted, just as an aside, that their intelligence services are good enough that they probably have far far more damaging things than the trivial shenanigans that came up in the campaign. I also noted that both sides are likely to own weapons grade dirt and that they are held in reserve for an all-out propaganda conflict. If that is what you consider to be obsessed, than either I have to apologize, or perhaps you should try reading the GD comments before your Tourette’s syndrome kicks in for one of your ever-insightful posts.

The huge danger is that the Russians have a book on Trump and can blackmail him at any time. Do you have any doubt that the Russians have intensive information on Trump and his family that they can trot out any time they want?

Of course they have to show intent to commit a crime which is always the weasel out ot these matters. I was not a Hillary supporter but criminal intent is a hill to climb when going after a public official. I learned that when I brought the Grass Valley School Board to the Grand Jury for obvious violations of the Brown Act. The Grand Jury agreed with me but saw no criminal intent and refused to refer it to the District Attorney.

Absolutely. They have the goods on any major political figure. An exception might be someone who is outright crazy (and may well live a faultless life) like Ralph Nader.
Do you think that the US has a ‘book on Putin’? Bank transfers, girl friends, recordings? Any other Russian political figures? Chinese? Nigerian?
This is my whole point. What you are hearing about is trivial and (because of that) is probably not state-backed. Seriously, I don’t know how much more clear I can be, this is not a subtle point.

In a country where a rule of law was applied to highly influential people, she and hubby would have been in the hoosegow years ago. Outside of somewhere like (maybe) Iceland or possibly modern Switzerland, I’m not sure that that country ever existed.
The real value of this last campaign was tremendous I think. It was finally made obvious to the proles that the fix is always in and that mass media is highly biased. Building up an immune system against political reporting looks to be a precious new commodity. There are huge new opportunities in the op-ed space, given that the NYT appears to have no more gravitas than the KVMR news empire.
What I’d love to see, and I’ll include myself in this, is for people to build up domain knowledge in things they pontificate on. Saying that the US should ‘have a health system just like Denmark and Singapore’ show an almost willful lack of the reality on the ground. Climate science is another canonical example of this, of course.

Congress wrote a specifically target statute to elimaite intent from the equation. Simply possessing classified materials off premises is in itself a crime. Copying off site it is a crime, Huma and Hillary’s housekeeper. Among others. One of the few laws where intent is not necessary to prove, making Comey’s conclusion that Clinton was so inept, sloppy,, ignorant of Internet matters,, and so careless that nobody could prove intent. But, that’s BS. Intent did not have to proven. The Grand Jury should have been convened.. A penalty of violating the Espionage Act is it disqualifies the person from holding public office (Federal) again. The Espionage Act is not simply the part we are familiar with.
But, you knew all that I bet. Look before you leap.
