   Happy 4TH to one and all. And remember that it was firearms and sacrifice that made this day possible. Freedom wasn’t “given” to us.

   Independence Day
   All the advances in human rights that we’ve seen in American history—abolitionism, feminism, civil rights, gay rights—stem from our founding ideas of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The emphasis on the individual mind in the Enlightenment, the individualist nature of market capitalism, and the demand for individual rights that inspired the American Revolution naturally led people to think more carefully about the nature of the individual and gradually to recognize that the dignity of individual rights should be extended to all people.

   From the majority opinion of the SCOTUS finding against Dred Scott, listing the rights freed slaves would have were they to find for Mr. Scott:

   It would give to persons of the negro race, who were recognised as citizens in any one State of the Union, the right to enter every other State whenever they pleased, singly or in companies, without pass or passport, and without obstruction, to sojourn there as long as they pleased, to go where they pleased at every hour of the day or night without molestation, unless they committed some violation of law for which a white man would be punished; and it would give them the full liberty of speech in public and in private upon all subjects upon which its own citizens might speak; to hold public meetings upon political affairs, and to keep and carry arms wherever they went**.

   Does anyone else want all of the Constitutional rights denied Dred Scott?

   The citizens of MA may be declaring independence from faucahauntas next year. The Indian American immigrant now citizen who holds the patent for email announced his run for Senate. His history of exposing both parties before backing the President in his first vote for President makes him a worst nightmare candidate for lizzy.
   Kurt Schilling tweeted that faucahauntas was going to get beat by a real Indian next year! 😉
