Dylan did not plagiarize, he cribbed using sparknotes. Huge difference. Cribbing is allowed by most style guidelines, while plagiarism is not. Anyone who refers to previously written words will crib to one degree or another. Speech writers (and Dylan’s was a speech) lean heavily on cribbing. If this were the lyrics of a song he was going to copyright as original, I’d have a problem, being an acceptance speech I think it is acceptable.

Nope! But for much of the Obama administration you could hear the sighs of anguish every time the shooter wasn’t a conservative white guy.
Almost got their poster child with Dylan Roof though. I can only imagine that the narrative wouldn’t take because the mugshots made him look like a lost 7 year old!
The wails when the Riverside shooter turned out to be Muslim were heartbreaking! The left was more upset it seemed than the families of the actual victims!

I suppose it just depends on the blog. I was amusing myself looking at the NY Times and seeing hundreds of posts that basically went:
“(a sentence or two) My prayers are for the Congressman, etc. (many many sentences) BUT, gun control blah blah blah”
To be fair, crazy (or the merely politically possessed) people with rifles are the ones that are impossible to stop. Breivik being a prime example.
It seems to me that higher degrees of political violence are not so much based on ability and access to destructive potential, but are natural side effects of economic (and civilization) cycles and/or diversity. This last could be made up of religious groups as much as it could be based on language, race, or culture.

This time it did end fairly quickly, Paul. The shooter was himself shot and killed. Sen. Paul, also there, was adamant that had one of the victims not been among the House leadership and rating a security detail from the Capitol Police to quickly return fire, it would have been a real bloodbath.
This might not be the best time to call for Republicans to disarm, Paul.
