[Does anyone remember the last time that the Congressional Budget Office, or for that matter the WH’s Office of Management and Budget, got any projection, estimate, or prediction right? And by ‘right’ I mean literally ‘close enough for government work’. Now people are hyperventilating that Trumpcare may go forward without anyone knowing its vaunted ‘CBO score’. As a comparison consider how Obamacare went forward also without its CBO score. And when it finally came, the information turned out somewhere between fraudulent to totally useless. The CBO then whined that the ACA was way too complex and too poorly laid out to do a proper scoring job. My own politically unrealistic druther would be to just stand back and let Ocare crash and burn under the full and continuous glare of cameras and klieglights. The current Repub replacement will generate more heat than light, besides becoming the much welcomed new narrative of the Left – ‘Obamacare would have worked given time (the notorious Gruber on NPR this morning), but now they destroyed it and replaced it with Trumpcare that has all these (insert litany here) problems. We need to go back and set up a single payer system like all those EU countries have.’ And how do you refute any of this? For the inquiring mind: healthcare will become ‘affordable’ only when the regulatory barriers for delivering it and its medications are drastically lowered, while concurrently addressing the entitlements gorilla. Overarching solution – make the economy roar, else NOTHING will work. gjr]

Walt 551pm – This kind of statements coming from leftwing factions are nothing new. In the US the Democrats have always been the most virulous racists the country has ever seen beginning with the foundation of the Democrat party in the early 19th century. It is they who backed slavery, terrorized post-bellum blacks, established and enshrined Jim Crow, founded and supported American eugenics, and finally sacrificed the emerging black middle class to create a cohort of permanently disadvantaged,ignorant, yet reliable voting block which they have enjoyed for the last 50 years.
In the 20th century they picked up on the political manipulations of Lenin, and were the fifth column backers of communism in the US. Now they are versed in loudly accusing everyone else of what in fact they practice – violence, hatred, discrimination, and an unabashed promotion of leviathan as an overarching totalitarian state. We have to remember that for them the individual is nothing but an expendable cipher that can be manipulated, deployed, and dispensed with for this or that political purpose. The collective is all, everyone else is assigned to classes that must be vilified and then destroyed. It is simply their nature.

I’ve had essentially the same experience in downtown Nevada City, before the election and the same folk has been avoiding my presence ever since, one in particular telling anyone who will listen how stupid I am… not because I’m GOP, but because I don’t accept the Gospels according to St. McKibben (who, it should be known, like Al Gore, never took a real physical science class in all his years in the Ivy League) who pulled the famous 350ppm CO2 target out of his hat.
Another experience was in listening to a couple of political bigots in a local family establishment, making blanket declarations right out of the Chris Mooney claims that GOP beliefs against what he thinks are scientific truths are the result of genetic inferiority.

I called them out as bigots, nicely, no shouting from either side; there also was no wiggle room for them, as they were clearly claiming Republicans were all STUPID. One of the proprietors came over and told me the couple were two of their oldest friends in town and I just as calmly repeated, that meant two of your oldest friends in town were bigots. Further challenged, and asked why I’d care because I wasn’t a Republican, I mentioned I knew a number of registered GOP among my extended family who were reasoned and educated, and asked them if they’d object the labeling of their old friends if they’d said that about blacks? Should someone who is a mutant barbarian like me (anyone who has blue eyes and doesn’t speak Greek can be fairly labeled as such) not challenge false statements about any group? Now, unlike the woman in that airliner, my experiences in observing our local tolerant Progressives took place BEFORE the election, counting their chickens before they hatched, believing their own Greek chorus that the Clintons would win.
Considering the violence of the words and deeds of their Blackshirts, I can only imagine how abysmal they might have been had they won.
I was originally hoping the GOP would prevail in November because of the need to get more Scalias on the bench from top to bottom, and then, after Scalia died in his sleep, even more anxious about the next two or three SCOTUS appointments. The most personal peace I’ve had in years was when our local “progressives” were shell shocked enough to keep quiet on Nov 8. The worst offenders are still avoiding eye contact; I guess the shattering of their New Progressive America dreams, beginning with the vanquishing of their foes last November, was just too much.

PROMISES, PROMISES: A few weeks before the election, Trump laid out an ambitious plan for his first 100 days in office. Trump is halfway through that period today, and he’s still scratching at the surface of key initiatives, such as stopping illegal immigration, while the one big reform currently before Congress — repealing and replacing Obamacare — had a rocky rollout this week and started its legislative journey.
Other recent presidents have started their terms by rolling out big policy proposals that send a message about where they want Washington to go. President George W. Bush focused his first weeks in office sending proposals to Capitol Hill, starting with No Child Left Behind education reform. President Barack Obama had an immediate call-to-action to cope with the financial crisis, and he signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act just days after his inauguration. Trump’s actions have mostly consisted of executive orders. “He’s giving snacks, rather than the main course, of the policies that he’s interested in delivering on,” said historian Martha Kumar, director of the White House Transition Project.
No mention of the Schumer Slowdown in the Senate delaying the confirmation of Cabinet Members who would be leading the initiatives. No mention of the Deep State obstruction. No mention of riots in the streets. No mention of the leaks that are disrupting the flow of work, to recover, forcing a redo. No mention of the lefty Judges throwing legal monkey wrenches into the political machinery.
Given the obstacles I would say that Trump is making better progress than the Progressive had expected. Go Trump!
