[This is the addended transcript of my regular KVMR commentary to be broadcast tonight.  I am posting it early due to the heavy reader interest and related comments pertaining to yesterday’s election.]

Early this morning columnist David Brooks, NYT’s futile nod to political balance, opined that Trump’s victory was made possible by Americans who are so “morally numb” that they suffer from “an inability to be offended”.   This view is now calcified in the liberal mind that remains blind to the bullet the country dodged by rejecting Hillary Clinton’s presidency.  Yesterday history was made at the polls across the land as a bamboozled, lied to, and frustrated electorate sent an outsider to try something different in Washington.

Enough voters rejected the analyses, advice, exhortations, and warnings of the progressive elites, painfully poor pollsters, Hollywood heartthrobs, Silicon Valley corporatists, and lamestream media pundits to vote for someone who at least had some demonstrable accomplishments to his name; instead of, at best, for a demonstrated incompetent who promised nothing beyond continuing the downward spiral to socialism onto which her predecessor and former boss has executively ordered our country.

President Obama leaves President Trump a nation more divided ideologically and culturally than at any time since Abe Lincoln – yesterday’s popular vote tally is testimony to that.  And his promised ‘fundamental transformation’ has left us in fiscal disarray with an increasing debt and unfunded obligations that are truly beyond our ken.  To this economic non-recovery we add a foreign policy in shambles, with nations across the globe that view America at a level of contempt and disrespect, allowing all the world’s bad actors to make bold gains that portend open warfare between major powers.

Both political parties now have a lot of mending ahead of them.  The Democrats need to purge their ranks of the corrupt gang of crooks, grafters, and incompetent confidence peddlers that surround and support Team Clinton and the lame duck Obama administration.  With all the unresolved scandals and investigations that now define the Clinton legacy, we hope that Democrats will put paid to that family’s influence in public affairs, and instead seek to rebrand themselves more openly as the unabashed home of America’s socialists touting the policies and, perhaps, even under the lead of Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.  That said, I don’t hold much hope for the party’s rescue from the Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and (inherited) Harry Reed schools of politics.

On the Republican side Donald Trump has to make good on his victory speech promise to reach out and welcome those many whose support of his candidacy was less than lukewarm.  In this he needs to be Lincolnian going forward with “malice toward none” and “charity for all”.  He must assemble a team of politically and technically astute people who can work together and work effectively with a Congress that again has Republican majorities in both houses.  If the Trump administration is itching for a house cleaning, it should start with the top and middle managers of the executive branch departments and bureaucracies that have so punished America over the last decades, especially the years since 2006.  Rolling back Obama’s executive orders and thousands of economy and liberty stifling regulations should be a first order of business.  If President Trump wants to resolve the Clinton covens of criminality, then he should assign a special prosecutor to insulate his administration, and let subsequent justice be led by the evidence.

According to my lights, given the alternatives, yesterday the country was blessed with the best available outcome.  But that in itself is no guarantee of a successful return to America’s greatness on a path that will again assimilate our fragmented cultural landscape, come to grips with a technology-driven, burgeoning systemic unemployment, and reestablish our global role as a strong and respected champion of liberalizing and commercially competing countries.  However, such a hopeful future demands an electorate educated in the pros and cons of collectivism and free market capitalism.

My name is Rebane, and I also expand on this and related themes on Rebane’s Ruminations where the addended transcript of this commentary is posted with relevant links, and where such issues are debated extensively.  However my views are not necessarily shared by KVMR.  Thank you for listening.

[Addendum]  On a more local note I see that Nevada County is now definitely neither red nor purple, but solidly blue.  It has been tending blue for some years as witnessed by the way the county’s jurisdictions ‘welcome’ businesses and real estate development, and what strictures burden owners on the disposition of their homes and rental properties.

Perusing the results of yesterday’s election (here) we see that less than 44% of the votes were cast for Republican Donald Trump.  Republican incumbent, Congressman LaMalfa, squeaked by with only a 1% margin, and Republican incumbent, Congressman McClintock, was soundly beaten in south county by an almost 2:1 margin.  All the propositions passed and failed strictly along the ideological divide.  Republicans did fare better in the state legislature as incumbents Ted Gaines and Brian Dahle retained their seats.

Nevada County has stagnated in population and socio-economic development over the last decades as the successfully retired and families with children find that jobs and appropriate living accommodations are no longer available in this region of the Sierra foothills which should be a mecca for both demographics.  This follows the path of so many other rural counties across the land that have been devastated by progressive public policies.  This decay in the hinterlands matches the decades long decay in large urban areas that have languished under Democrat city governments.

Today the blight of collectivism is visible across the nation wherever progressives gain a foothold.  The only exceptions being the urban set-asides where the wealthy and high earning elites congregate, people whose financial situation makes them immune to the regulatory costs of residence no matter where they live.

[10nov16 update]  Nationwide socialist protests.  The leftwing’s effluent from our institutions of higher socialism have taken to the streets to declare their separation from those who disagree with them.  These demonstrations of the Left’s hypocrisy have gone hyperbolic in their opposition to the outcome of the recent election with cries of ‘Not our President!’ etc, flag burnings, and the smashing of Trump image piñatas.  When the Great Divide has been discussed in these pages, the local leftwing loonies scream ‘Treason!’ and attribute the very idea to a small unpatriotic group of the disaffected rightwing.  But the truth is very distant from such assessments and actions which align perfectly with Alinsky’s Marxist teachings.  The young know-nothings in the streets have been shaped in leftwing union dominated government schools to hate every bit of America that preceded their tender years.  Their education has been abetted daily by the progressive lamestream media, and now they are shrieking against a reality that was not supposed to be.  They have been promised a fundamental transformation of the country, and they intend to make it so.

The first order of business for civil America should include depolitizing the nation’s politically correct school systems.  However, even if that is possible without the Great Divide, in the interval there will be more of the same from the progressive elites who already have planned, organized, and implemented demonstrations and more against America’s civil society and constitutional order.

[Later] The progress of the progressive pandemic across our dear land.  Note Nevada County; we are now the minority.

Soros put 2 mil into anti Sheriff joe ads. I am surfing the left for giggles, Rachel Madow is advocating the left go to the bunkers. She is trying to sell that all the protests are organic and spontaneous. Too bad she does not do opposition research. CNN had their guy at Trump tower talking to a dem organizer who proudly declared that they are organized and planned all this. In addition she said they have much more planned. 😉

Now that the shouting is over let us ponder the Chicago connection…..

SO BEFORE THE ELECTION THE PRESS WAS ALL “IF TRUMP LOSES, WILL HIS SUPPORTERS ACCEPT IT LIKE GOOD AMERICANS, OR REACT LIKE VIOLENT REDNECKS?” And now that he’s won: Tens of Thousands Protest Trump Election Victory, 124 Arrested.
Will anyone blame Hillary for her campaign’s fear-mongering rhetoric that incited this reaction? And is Jan Schakowsky’s (D-IL) husband Robert Creamer involved in promoting violence post-election the way he was when he was working for Hillary’s campaign?
Flashback: Dem Operative Who Oversaw Trump Rally Agitators Visited White House 342 Times.

Looks like Trump will be busy defending himself against lawsuits (and he cannot say it was a vast leftwing conspiracy against him- just Mexican judges with grudges).
We will have to wait to see if Melania gives the White House accommodations 3, 4, or 5 stars today. She may prefer to stay down the street at the new Trump hotel. They could always airBnB the White House I guess.
BTW- where are the tax returns?

This election has unbelievably fired up the left. The elitist (both local and nationally) have a smug disdain for regular, everyday folks (locally) and middle America (nationally). These elitist would prefer that only the “clean and washed” highly educated be in charge. This preference shows their true fear – they don’t like democracy and fear that democracy does not work. They would prefer that they (the elites) tell the “redneck masses” who curiously believe in God how to live.
I went home to the Midwest for a while this winter when my uncle passed. At the barber shop before the funeral, I got an earful about elites and “you people in California.” At that moment I knew Trump had a chance. These folks were pissed.
This election was middle America giving the elitist on the coasts the finger. Pretty simple.

Some people do not take disappointment graciously. Some are in denial and need time to process this news. Others are encased in the bubble from whence they rule the roost.. They will really go bonkers if they perceive that they and their message has been rejected. But no worries. They will never believe that they and their message has been reject. No, its Trump’s fault. It’s a messaging problem, not the message.
Reality is a difficult concept to wrap their heads around. Their sickness will grow worse with time. They need a bigger safe zone.

Barry, are the barbershop quartets in the farm belt saying Trump is not an elitist and every person in positions within Republican halls of power and influence were culled from the farms and steel mills of the red states?
Trump went to Wharton. These days it is a top-five business school. Trump is hardly ‘working class’ – he just pandered to them to win the election.
That said, I am not totally freaked out about the things he has said. I think the Middle Easterners, generally, need to fight their own wars – just keep the oil flowing, thank you.
I think if the Trump of Oceania, President Rodrigo Duterte, wants the US out of the Philippines, we should close Subic Bay. Duterte wants to cozy up to Putin and so does Trump. Dump Duterte – oh, wait, now all is forgiven since Trump is elected. Maybe now he is afraid that Trump will actually kick him to the curb losing his country Billions of US dollars. Duterte is full of shit.

Let the snowflakes melt. The knuckledraggers have taken over the White House, the Senate, and the House. After the SCOTUS vacancy is filled we can play nice, not a minute before. If you turn your back for one second, they will drive a knife into us. They hate us! Never forget. They really truly do hate us 24/7. That will never change, ever.
Forgive them, but it is unwise to enter the lion cage without a whip and a chair. We need a stiff spine now more than ever. God gave us brains to use. Again, let the snowflakes melt on the sidewalk into the vile puddles of anti-Americanism they are. There is no desire for unity from the left. No desire yesterday, today, or tomorrow. They will never ever play fair. After they accept defeat on our terms we can negotiate nice soft cuddly terms of surrender.
Be wise. They are still rattlesnakes in the grass. Be wary. They hate us more today than yesterday.

I can totally see how folks could understand him that way.
In my opinion, it is not where you go to school or your job or your lifestyle that makes one an elitist. An elitist (one who did not graduate from high school or one who has a degree from Cal) is one who arrogantly believes that they are “better than” and know better how to run others’ lives. It is not education or lifestyle that makes on an “elitist.” It is the smug, condescending, arrogant attitude of their fellowman who the elitist truly loathes as uneducated and who the elitist truly believes that he is “better than” and therefore should be able to dictate to others how to live. It’s belittling of our fellowman who simply wishes to live his life without interference from others who think they know better. I for one trust my fellowman to live his or her life the way they choose…after all it is their life to live, not mine.

Here is a copy/paste of a screed from Pelline’s by a Steve Hurley. I saw this earlier on FB and responded to the idiot. If this doesn’t convince people why there is a divide in America, then nothing will. This dolt Steve is a elitist and and thank goodness his ilk just got their ass kicked.
    “Steve Hurley says:
    November 10, 2016 at 6:47 am
    Debrief:
The numbers are glaring about how the least educated went massively for Trump. He won white voters without a college degrees by a massive 67 per cent, to 28 per cent.
Folks without college educations have a harder time sifting information. They are also the most likely to rely on passion over reason. This is a sales truism: “knowledge makes you powerful but emotion makes you buy.” They bought Trump for emotional reasons.
Disingenuous, well-engineered propaganda that inflames emotions works best on sub-sets of populations most lacking in critical thinking skills.
Propaganda targeted at left-behind uneducated persons is familiar in history. Rage is a good political motivation especially when it can be channeled to divide a population on the bottom rungs of a society against themselves: in this case uneducated whites against the illegals and people of color.
Uneducated whites messaged using the thinly veiled ‘dog whistles’ of the Alt-Right is the signature of the Trump communications and political strategy.
My prediction is that this precise core constituency of resentful uneducated white voters will be called upon again and again in the future to be the ‘shield and sword’ for business and cultural interests seeking victory through dividing America. The communications channels will continue to be low-brow right-wing talk radio, Fox news, and DC-based ‘think tanks’ operating as propaganda mills.

Here are the exit polls. I find things like married vs single more enlightening than education. When all demographics are grouped together, the education gap was not a huge runaway for either side. Break it down by race, non whites without a college degree were all in for My Gal, God rest her tortured soul. Whites without a college education went for Trump. Ironically, whites without a college degree is the only one the liberals are screaming about. What the exit polls do not tell us is what percentage of the voting population hold PHDs, have college degrees, some college, and demographic percentages of the entire population.

Doubtless Dr. Rebane will shortly put up a county-by-county map showing the distribution of votes. What it will show is that the Republican electorate is the segment that ‘exploits’ the environment to provide a living for the masses living in urban centers and producing, effectively, NOTHING.
Think about it. Where would CA be without coal miners in the 4-corners area? Or frackers, or all the other Republican inclined people who actually produce the goods that the urban idiots consume without a single thought about where that bounty comes from?

    Bottom line:
This was not a normal election. It was war. We had to stop the direction this country is heading: socialism and decline. As one pundit put it, Globalism vs Nationalism (Political Globalism vs Political Sovereignty).
We assumed many things that were not true. I was told the turn out was going to be record breaking by the media. But, 4 million less people voted in 2016 than in 2012, and 2-3 million less people voted in 2012 than in 2008. Florida’s population increased by a million over the last few years, but the total votes cast did not reflect this in the least.
Trump never would have won without the conservatives coming around finally and recognizing this is a war, not an election. SCOTUS was a key. It was fight for the heart, soul, and direction for what is known as America. Those that viewed 2016 as a mere election but not war did not turn out. The ones that stayed home did not see 2016 as The Year of the Reckoning…..the last chance to slow the inevitable march towards Maoism in our life times.
Never underestimate the enemy. Conversely, never underestimate those fighting for their lives with everything to lose.

More than half did not vote for Clinton, a small plurality for the Democrat does not solid Blue make.
More than half voted for LaMalfa. More than half voted for Gains and Dahle, and I suspect many who voted for Dahle’s competition, Donn Coenen, probably didn’t know he was a Tea Party/SOJ kind of Libertarian who I voted for despite those issues. Nice guy, too, and the High School district failed to get the votes to issue bonds primarily for maintenance issues that historically get paid from normal revenues which remain substantial.
In short, this isn’t a “blue county”, and compared to the rest of the state, our shade of blue looks almost white.

As far at Prez elect Trumps win being a white revolution talking point, Trump got a third more black votes than Romney and more Hispanic votes than the Spanish speaking Romney. Trump got the voters mobilized and over performed Romney all across the country. That combined with the minority vote staying home in rejection of the old, white, rich lady sealed the deal.

Regarding Pellin’s screed on his blog attacking Pruett. What a joke. At least Barry puts his money and time where his mouth is. He ran for office and has registered voters (we did this together) and was a poll watcher in this election. All Pelline does is whine and complain and do nothing but yap. Pelline is why there is a ongoing sickness in our body politic. He is no better than a infection while Barry is the cure. But Pelline at least is consistently a jerk while Barry is well liked by many on both sides of the political divide.

Paul, 1225, I was working off the final numbers and I had it right. The margin Clinton beat Trump by in this county would be considered a toss-up by Real Clear Politics pre election polling… not light blue, not solid blue. More importantly, less than 50% of the vote. A bare plurality, not a majority. Look up the words in a dictionary or a math book if you need to.
McClintock has a tiny left-liberal sliver of the County and I’ve no idea how hard he fought for those votes.
    GR 1246, see the above
Paul, up close and personal a couple weeks ago you were asking me how the GOP would reform itself after Tuesday’s shellacking… and they emerged with the Presidency, the Senate and the House for the first time since 1928… and a large majority of Governorships. Outside local and some state governments, the Democrats are in hibernation with their journalistic arm in tatters by public opinion… how are they going to recover?

GeorgeB 146pm – George Parker’s New Yorker piece is another on of those sincere self-examination of progressives who see themselves and their ideas invincible. Parker’s whole conversation contained no smidgeon of awareness about great socio-economic forces playing through our society such the acceleration of technology, systemic unemployment impervious to education, the onrushing Singularity, globality, … . The session was nothing more than a self-serving inquiry into why stasist and statist policies of established collectivism no longer seem to work. Most certainly there was no significant calling to account of the Obama administration failures. The whole thing circled the old socialist notion of how can we elites (who publicly dun elites) get those sheeple shaped up, compliant, and moving in a direction that brings them to a place where leviathan is recognized as the source of all goodness and succor.
Reading this piece almost makes you feel sorry for how absolutely devastated Hillary Clinton must now feel, for she knew that she would be the one to show America the way forward with brilliant policies, edicts, executive orders, … issuing from Washington to flood the land where lives an appreciative people – for this time around we can really make the same ol’ same ol’ work.

Gregory 215pm – Have you ever considered giving motivational talks here in Nevada County? Even with Trump’s victory, I can think of several groups who could use them.

The state house reports are coming in. Looks like a war zone. The Dems got knocked in the teeth by an angry mob of irredeemable white women. Told ya those Trump rallies were pretty near 2/3 fine fair maidens. 🙂
To complete the picture, all the Dems have left as the face of your Democratic Party is Old Botox Tax Pelosi and that guy that looks like Mr. Grinch, Kaine of Virginia or something. Oh ya. Chuckie Big Bank Schmuer as the mouthpiece. I would say the Dem Party is going to have a PR problem for a few years. Good job.
Of course Nev County is going blue. Hey, you know why this does not look like Marin? Cause it is not Marin, duh. Never was, but it will be!! I put Nevada County in the transitional phase category.
