RR has long maintained that not all franchised American citizens should exercise their right to vote (e.g. here). For the good of our republic, they should just stay home, watch, learn, and prepare themselves for the next election. As a public service we again issue the same appeal to all voters on the margin, and offer here a simpler, updated voter test that can be auto-administered.
Dear reader, please don’t vote if you …
- Are not a franchised US citizen;
- Need this test to be translated into your native tongue;
- Don’t know the three branches of our federal government and how they are supposed to work together;
- Don’t know the main sources of government revenues;
- Don’t know the difference between deficit and debt;
- Don’t know what GDP is or what it measures;
- Don’t know who are your congressional representatives and their political parties;
- Don’t know what are the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution;
- Don’t know why Muslim terrorists willingly sacrifice their lives for Islam;
- Can’t tell the difference between a million, a billion, and a trillion;
- Can’t do arithmetic – add, subtract, multiply, or divide without a calculator;
- Don’t know on what planet you live;
- Believe that any of the above deficits are acceptable for a 21st century American voter.

Right on! The source of the stupidity is right under our nose, the local schools who are producing students incapable of making rational assements and finding an effective solutions to problems. Hillary and Climate Change are just too examples.

Pretty much all schools in California are dominated by Democrats, and that POV dominates the classrooms. As Sacramento goes, so goes the state. Regarding Climate Change, the status quo is pretty much required by the state. Blaming local schools for having the California disease is pointless.
Regarding numeracy, a depressing exercise for most adults… draw a number line, label the leftmost point Zero, the rightmost point 1 trillion. Ask the subject to mark where one billion is.

Good one Gregory. I drew a 4-inch line(math amateur) and labeled it as directed. I couldn’t sharpen my pencil enough to make the 1 billion dot properly close to the Zero. But voters don’t need math skills to vote for more government. They have their feelings to guide themselves. Let’s hope a couple billion Hillary supporters just stay home tomorrow.

Bob, you’re exceptional, you knew where the 1 billion mark needed to go… I even know commercial pilots who, when asked to do the same thing, object to putting the mark there “because that’s where zero is”. Rationality goes out the door, folks want a billion to be about where 100 or 200 billion would be on the trillion line.
I think many people get the zero to 1,000 number line OK (a stack of 1,000 dollar bills is understandable, as is 1,000 pixels across on a screen) but add nine zeros and they glaze over.

Show x as a proper fraction. I learned that one in the 5th grade… I was gobsmacked at the power of the first real application of algebra I remember seeing… wow, you can subtract an equation from another equation. My mind was blown, never to recover.

My darling wife and I just returned from voting. Took about 10 minutes. Everyone had their photo ID out and ready, so all was going smoothly. There was a table at the entrance for folks to register if they had not already done so. There were 8 different choices on the ballot for pres (as well as a line for write-in), so no need to boo hoo about being forced to vote for the lessor evil.
Tomorrow we will awaken to a nation still deeply divided and mired in horrendous debt and unfunded public obligations. No matter who wins, we have a hard slog ahead to avoid financial meltdown.

Now Dr. Rebane. I can’t tell you who my supervisor is by name, nor even know who my congressman or state rep or state senate people are, but I voted anyway. If it was somebody Brother Ben or Fatso likes, I chose the other guy just to cancel their vote as well. It was my patriotic duty, even though I don’t know who my congressional representatives are. Is it that guy whose name sounds like La Mafia? Forgive me, but I play by a lower standard being irredeemable and such.

Hey. I had to show ID and get a Providential ballot. Whatz up with dat? The huge lady ahead of me in the providential ballot line took forever on the machine as everybody behind me was having bladder issues. Not fun, but the extra effort was worth it. Left my mark on the back of the building on the way out. Opps, I left the US Senate choice blank. Me bad.

NAFTA passed the Senate 61 to 38. Democrats were almost evenly split: 27 YEA, 26 NAY (and 1 not in attendance for the vote). Republicans voted for it by a larger margin: 34 YEA to 12 NAY.
Anyway Hillary will easily win today which is a sigh of relief to the mainstream Pubbers who can toss him out like dead flowers and regroup for 2020.

Well, enough is enough. I’m going to bed. The lamestream outlets have Trump somewhere in the 244 region, Fox News have him at 254, and the WSJ is up there at 264. We’ll all know in the morning. I hope they get a video of Hillary eating crow since she refused to say that she would accept the election results, and instead gave Trump a lot of crap for his honest answer.
