I hope you guys are starting to understand the difference between a progressive and a liberal, especially the centrist neo liberalism that dominates today’s Democratic Party. Obama, Clinton(s), Biden, Pelosi, Reid, ect… are liberals/ neo liberals trying to perpetuate and add onto a dysfunctional and violent system not reform it.
Sanders represents the progressive faction of American electorate and we are going to see some fireworks in Philadelphia come July. Hopefully my health allows me to go and be part of the rabble getting their civil liberties violated by the Un Democratic Party security thugs.
    Happy Summer Solstice to everyone

I do. A liberal was, until the term was co-opted by progressives, a laissez-faire, small government type. A progressive was everybody else who believed that the state was going to regulate all aspects of society.
    Kinda like Bernie….and Hillary…..and Mussolini….etc.

“In a state ruled by a former Jesuit, perhaps we should not be shocked to find ourselves in the grip of an incipient state religion. Of course, this religion is not actually Christianity, or even anything close to the dogma of Catholicism, but something that increasingly resembles the former Soviet Union, or present-day Iran and Saudi Arabia, than the supposed world center of free, untrammeled expression.
Two pieces of legislation introduced in the Legislature last session, but not yet enacted, show the power of the new religion. One is Senate Bill 1146, which seeks to limit the historically broad exemptions the state and federal governments have provided religious schools to, well, be religious.
Under the rubric of official “tolerance,” the bill would only allow religiously focused schools to deviate from the secular orthodoxy required at nonreligious schools, including support for transgender bathrooms or limitations on expressions of faith by students and even Christian university presidents, in a much narrower range of educational activity than ever before. Many schools believe the bill would needlessly risk their mission and funding to “solve” gender and social equity problems on their campuses that currently don’t exist.
The second piece of legislation, thankfully temporarily tabled, Senate Bill 1161, the Orwellian-named “California Climate Science Truth and Accountability Act of 2016,” would have dramatically extended the period of time that state officials could prosecute anyone who dared challenge the climate orthodoxy, including statements made decades ago. It would have sought “redress for unfair competition practices committed by entities that have deceived, confused or misled the public on the risks of climate change or financially supported activities that have deceived, confused or misled the public on those risks.”

Yeah I remember the mid nineties when ol senile Jerry was trying to refashion himself a libertarian instead of pushing vanity railroad projects designed to enrich his union cronies.
    Good times indeed…..!

” the state was going to regulate all aspects of society.” — typical cold war perspective, except the cold war ended a few decades ago.
I am always curious about what conservatives view as “regulation” or not. If anyone cares to respond, I am not interested in hearing ideological regurgitations about freedom and liberty and other undefinable POV kinds of things. Specifically what should a government that serves all the people regulate or not. For example, should a government “regulate” in order to provide safe and effective drugs or food, or should consumers just have to trust large multi-national corporations to do what is best for society0? Should a government “regulate” to prevent pollution of the environment? Should a government “regulate” access and availability of assault weapons? Should a government “regulate” businesses to deter fraud?

Yes Todd, I will actually agree with you that non-political bureaucracies can be frustrating. Hey, good pickup. I think I noticed this when I was about 6 years old for the first time. No, CALTRANS doesn’t typically respond to individual citizen complaints, hard as that concept may be to grasp, as there are too many crazy people submitting dumb things into the ticket system. Much as you would like it to be, there is nothing political involved one way or another.
The City of Grass Valley hasn’t responded for at least 6 weeks to a bent pole across the left lane going south in front of Arco, which could do real damage on some tires.

Ben, I respectfully disagree with you about Bernie. He put up an incredible fight against massive odds, against a well known weighted system toward the party loyalists and bigwigs. He LOST, he did not win enough early big states in the South and industrial north. I would have been proud to call him the nominee, but he LOST. I really hope (and believe) he and his team get the progressive priorities deeply embedded into the Dem platform. The Dem party will never be the same.

    For your information and considerations:
ANN ALTHOUSE: Snippet from the new CNN poll showing who’s better — Clinton or Trump? — on the economy, terrorism, immigration, and foreign policy. “Note that Clinton lost ground on all of these important matters, and she’s below Trump on what may be the 2 most important things — the economy and terrorism. Trump picked up 3 points on terrorism while Clinton lost 5 in this survey that was taken after the Orlando massacre.”
Plus: “I just got email from something called the ‘Conservative Campaign’ saying: ‘A series of new polls show Hillary Clinton with a growing lead, including a new Monmouth poll out today showing her up by 8%.’ But the previous Monmouth poll had her up by 10.”

So her lead, like the chocolate ration, has been increased from 10 to 8. . . . Wow, ahead but sliding back.

“The Dem Party will never be the same.” Praise be to the Merciful and Glorious Allah, I hope so. Really I do. America will benefit greatly if true. The Dems brought us Jim Crow Laws, the KKK, and “Pigs in a blanket” and have labeled the phrase “America is a land of opportunity” as hurtful, exclusive, and a big Bozo no-no. Change indeed is in order.
Ole Bernie fought his heart out, but once Clinton takes over the DNC, she will be yelling to security to take those passionate followers of Senator Sandors and “get those frigging retards out of here.” Think it’s called “kicking them to the curb.”
If anyone thinks that because of Bernie’s hard fought battles the Establishment will not continue to run the Democrat Party, you are taking some good acid. Better than purple micro dot. The Dem Establishment ain’t going softly into the still night. They love power too much and love having 1/4 of their delegates the chosen Establishment ones….bought and paid for in advance.
Nature abhors a vacumn. Dems love power. That is why so many Dem “people’s party” congresspersons chose to quit rather than serve the people in the role of the minority party? At least Queen Botox is sticking around…dreaming of holding that gavel again. After all, it was a historic event when she began the first female to be Speaker. Where was the confetti? Jon Dozer 11:44Am, so if Caltrans doesn’t respond to individual complaints then why do they have a website for that very thing? If you are right then that is a double down cynical ploy by them. Or maybe they are just inept and that is one more way to prove our point about bureaucracy we have pointed out from the right. The politics involved is one of response and the right holds people accountable while the left pats them on the ass and says “oh have a candy” you bad little boy.
Sanders is a doomed candidate and he never accomplished anything. The young minds full of mush that voted for him were never taught what their grandparents fought communism about. And they have lived with silver spoons compared to the wretched poor under socialism. Venezuela the latest example. Hey, doesn’t evil Comcast own the building, or is it just the Flyers, 76ers, and QVC?
Good luck. With the Dems and Hillary controlling every aspect and televised angle of this historic staged event, I will have to look for you and your group of Sanderistas on some obscure web channel or Entertainment Tonight.
Be safe. Those union thugs will be patrolling within your midst in case any of you get too uppity and someone yells out “Liar” concerning the nominee. Hey, wear a red hat. It will be a great piñata at your street festival and sure to start some conversations. Good way to meet people.
All in all, I think the youth hostiles are booked up by now. Besides, you will be so far from the Convention Center that you will be lucky to even set eyes on the structure. But, if you have it in your head to go, all I can say is “Bern it Down! Bern it Down! Power to the people! Free college for all those who need to a few years of college to become efficient in high school Language Arts and math.” Bern it all the way down to the ground.

Todd, now don’t get all upset about Cal Trans. The head of CalTrans and CalFire and Cal Social Services all make less than our tiny county’s CEO, so give them a break.
Look, we need to fork over more taxes. That last gas tax on top of the last gas tax does not go to fixing abrupt elevations where pavement meets concrete or obscure intersections. Nah, it goes to the bullet train and homeless housing, duh. Read the law. Heck, even Boardman wrote a great piece about the teeth chattering experience of driving on California’s highway system. More taxes are needed cause things do not cost the same as we where told they would cost, aka the train to nowhere, Surprise, surprise. Pension shortfalls are more important, duh.
And when everybody is driving those overpriced electric golf carts, there will be more gas taxes to make up for the shortfall. Then the State will do the new “miles driven” tax via technology and the greenies will be grunting in their granola. Besides, Frisco says the homeless needs are killing them and are demanding Jesuit Jerry declare a state of emergency.
Todd, have you ho heart? People first, then fish and frogs, then things. The stupid roads can wait. Tear down Hetch Hetchy! Fuck your roads you selfish self centered cretain. 🙂

Sure as long as it doesn’t exist we can all have our opinion. Mine would be they would have top notch roads, like Montana. They have the same population as Sacramento County in a state a bit smaller than ours. Their roads are fantastic! But liberals want to spend our taxes paid for gasoline products on rehab for criminals and addicts. What a state.

Todd and all SOJ fans: stifle. It can’t be done until the State of California goes bankrupt, economically and politically. Once that happens and the underfunded pensions are made to go away (what cash CalPERS and STRS has will be equitably apportioned), a SOJ could rise from the ashes.
The last California nuclear (or as Jimmy Carter liked to say, noo-cue-la) power plant is on its way to oblivion. It currently generates 9% of the state’s electricity and is online 24/7. It will be replaced with green energy that doesn’t contribute greenhouse gases, but of course, nuclear fission emits no greenhouse gases, either. What will be rising faster, air temperatures or electric bills?

Let the record be clear – I am and have always been a supporter of the SoJ movement (the new state would better be named Northern California). This movement is the only ongoing effort to communicate the chasm between Right and Left California, and that the Right is existentially not only NOT represented but is having their interests extinguished while they helplessly watch.
When will such a separation come to pass? Probably not before a financial crisis and the reversion of political and economic control to Washington. But the point remains that no critic – from the Right or Left – has come up with a better plan forward and have only clucked their tongues and counseled continuing the same old crap while hoping for different results.

All of their ‘safety net’ and healthcare programs are consuming a greater fraction of GDP every year. And no one knows what to do other than cut back services – they have all become smart enough to know that further increasing taxes reduces government revenues (something we have yet to learn). And most certainly what they have learned does NOT apply to “large populations” for the simple reason that they only have very small, culturally homogeneous populations.
