   Mr. Smith. It’s been a while since I read up on the hunting laws and who uses what, where.
   I don’t recall hearing of any mass secondary cases of lead poisoning due directly from hunting.

   Ducks Unlimited is the world’s undisputed leader in duck conservation and waterfowl management. It is almost entirely funded by hunters. DU is a vociferous proponent of lead ban and their scientists have helped shape international waterfowl law. From their website:
   Lead poisoning, which occurs when waterfowl ingest spent lead shot, is a unique disease because it is caused entirely by humans. Ingestion of just a few pellets can cause death, and in some cases, a single pellet may prove lethal. At one time, an estimated 3,000 tons of lead shot were being deposited by hunters in North American wetlands each year, and the number of spent pellets in some wetlands averaged nearly 70,000 per hectare. Within the United States alone, historic annual losses of waterfowl from lead poisoning were estimated at between 1.6 million and 2.4 million birds. Afflicted birds often take several weeks to die and are characterized by an unwillingness to fly, “roof-shaped” wings, severe emaciation, including a condition known as “hatchet breast,” and bright green staining around the vent. While some lead hot spots remain and periodic die-offs still occur, the introduction of nontoxic shot has curtailed lead shot deposition in North American wetlands and has become a viable long-term solution to lead poisoning.

   Yes DU is a big outfit. But Fish and Game is funded through fees, hunting licenses etc.
   That is WAY down in Ca. That I know.
   In that “report”, it’s not stated just how many birds were wounded on the wing, or who died from ingestion. The devil is in the details.
   Another thing I know is, steal shot just ain’t up for the task. (yes, improvements have been made over the years) Resulting in more wounded ducks that die later.
   That’s why I gave up hunting. No way was I going to shoot non lead in MY shotgun
   too many guns blew up in the early days.
   If I need to live off the land, I know how. I’m glad to hear you still hunt. Save me some of the next wild pig you bag. I have a smoker,, and know how to use it.

    Walt, look, I sympathize with you. I certainly understand the reasons for your love and affection for Drumpf and his evangelical message of “winning.” After all, I did minor in psychology in undergrad way back when. You and your Drumpf minions are basically equivalent to one of the naïve German followers in pre-war Germany. After a life of losing, looking for a savior, looking for the promise of winning for once in your life. Drumpf has you guys, hook line and sinker. Sad and pathetic.     The Turkey Vulture is the best garbage man in the business. Nests on the ground as well, FYI. Not to worry Jon, you ain’t as dead as you smell. Those birds ain’t all that particular, but you are safe because you only look ripe.
    Now Walt, night before last the dogs were going nuts. I shined the flashlight at the two white dogs and 3 sets of eyeballs reflected back. Hairy, dark, looked like a bear cub or an anteater. Wearing my socks and undies and the creature was coming right at me. Turned the headlight off and it stopped. Oh, the wolf dog/White Swiss Shepard had her tail between her legs running in circles (guess the Yukon, Artic parts are dormant) but the Pyrenees got right in is face, but the creature paid it no mind. I turned the light back on it (now at 15 feet) and it came right at me, dogs or no dogs. It was a hog, wild looking, no tusks, male, teenager. I turned off the light and ran in the house! Some great hunter I turned out to be. I let it Pryennes herd it around the flower garden, down the fence line, across the back, onto the neighbor’s property. Good dog. I went to sleep wondering whose vegetable garden is already in and what it might look like come morning.
    We will see if it comes back around. Run piggy run. Hide Hillary hide.
