A couple of quick points to which we’ll add later.

Hillary in an orange jumpsuit?  That was never supposed to happen if we recall our liberal cadres here assuring us that her email imbroglio was a baseless Republican dust devil that would soon be forgotten.  At a lunch today with people who have also held TOP SECRET and above clearances, all of us wondered how meticulous Comey will want to be before sending the very large stack of condemning evidence to the DoJ that the FBI has now dug up.  Her denials about not having anything on her servers marked classified has now become thin gruel in the public media.  Only the leftwing know-nothings still deny that her sins range from a minimum of hubristic criminality to something closer to treason.  Preparing for the inevitable, Democrats in the wings contemplating the race are beginning to form a line.  [29jan16 photo added]

The State of Jefferson movement (I prefer North California) was supposed to be dead and buried, especially in Nevada County, according to the usual platoon of progressive pundits.  Well, Mr Eddie Garcia of the SoJ Steering Committee sent out an email today proudly announcing that there are now more than 5,500 signatures on the petition requesting our county’s BoS to put the SoJ proposition on the ballot.  This would let all Nevada County citizens express their opinion about their desire to see this movement for California’s minority values and legislative representation proceed.  I wonder what message we will hear from our local Left about the prospects for passage of such a proposition.  Well, actually I don’t wonder at all.

Eddie Garcia writes –

TOMORROW – 9:05 AM – Public Comment at the Board of Supervisors meeting – If you plan to address them, please meet me in the lobby at 8:30.  The more of us who talk the better.

TOMORROW – 7:00 PM – Our last meeting before filing the petition,  Bring any completed sheets you have.

THURSDAY – 9:30 AM – Gathering in front of Rood Center to proceed to the Elections office to file the signatures at 10 AM.  I’d love to see it be an “event” that merits media coverage.  Enlist as many people as you can to come.

THURSDAY – 1 PM – Tom Fitzsimmons is giving us an hour on his program on KNCO to bring his audience up-to-date about SOJ!!!

At times it seemed like we would never get there, that it was an impossible task to gather the necessary signatures for our petition to qualify!

But, thanks to the untiring efforts of your Steering Committee and volunteers, next Thursday January 28th at 10 AM, proudly wearing our green t-shirts we will deliver to the Nevada County Elections Office over 5,500 signatures requesting that our Board of Supervisors put the State of Jefferson proposition on the ballot so that the citizens of Nevada County can express their opinion on whether our County should become part of the effort to form a new state where we would be guaranteed a voice in the decisions that shape our lives and the future of our children.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, we will also be addressing our Board of Supervisors during public comment time at 9:05 AM to inform them about the success of our signature gathering campaign.

Let us turn Thursday into a display of the support our movement has in our County.  Come and join your committee on the front steps of the Rood Center at 9:30 am, wear your green t-shirts, fly the SOJ flag!

[26jan16 update]  Nevada County’s big solar panel project was highlighted in the 25jan16 Union in a piece that left many (like me) scratching their heads.  While giving all green thinking people a good belly rub, both the upkeep, long term benefits, and financing remain a jumble.  Today at the Rood Center the BoS will get a prezo on the whole thing (I have a conflict and won’t be able to attend.)  A reader and fellow head scratcher sent me an email which expands on some of the puzzling aspects of the project; here it is –

I saw some interesting numbers in The Union article about equipping the County buildings with solar panels using a government grant. I did not see any maintenance costs?  Someone has to keep the dust off, remove the snow in winter.  At the end of 20 years the County will own the system. But, over time the performance of the solar panels decline, at the end to 20 years, the decline is significant. I never see any cost of ownership in these wonderful solar numbers.

I talked to one of my neighbors who was considering solar and did some research. He mentioned that solar panels for China were less expensive, but after about 5 years they start delaminating, and water penetration is causing some real problems.  Are the County going to insure they have US made panels?

If you have a chance encounter with a Supervisor, you might ask what the maintenance cost of the systems are, the projected performance at the end of 20 years and will they have a buy US clause in the contract.

In the aggregate Millenials are not too bright – neither numerate nor knowledgeable in economics and finance.  That is the main reason that the Left is citing their polled opinions and courting their votes; they fit right in.  From Yahoo Finance

A new study conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers and George Washington University confirmed that millennials have an alarmingly low level of financial literacy, which could have “disastrous” effects on the economy.  “Of the millennials that we surveyed, only 8% answered five out of five questions correctly and 24% answered three correctly,” lamented Steve Barr, partner at PwC.  The study analyzed the financial characteristics of more than 5,500 people born between the early 1980s and the mid-1990s.

In my 20 years in the Air Force, I had many assignments, and some of those assignments required Top Secret SCI Access. It was vital the enemy did not know how and when intelligence data was being collected as they could close the access points.
For those readers who never served in the military or served in a position when special need to know access was required, I recommend they read a book titled Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base, by Anne Jacobsen
This is the first book based on interviews with eye witnesses to Area 51 history, which makes it the seminal work on the subject. Filled with formerly classified information that has never been accurately decoded for the public, Area 51 weaves the mysterious activities of the top-secret base into a gripping narrative, showing that facts are often more fantastic than fiction, especially when the distinction is almost impossible to make.
Once the reader starts it is hard to put the book down. But more importantly, it lifts the lid on a special access program so the reader can experience the collective need for special access programs and why they are important.
This something that Hillary Clinton’s staff failed to understand. And in her hubris and feeling of superiority, I am not sure that Hillary Clintons understood the need for special access programs. Lives often depend on maintaining the secret. Something which she seem to disregard over a 1,000 times by using an unsecured server network.
It is easy for the left to discount the damage done, but those of us who have had admission understood the weight of the responsibilities that comes with access to vital secrets. The need to protect the lives of those at the spearpoint of a classified operation and to preserve the billions invested in developing a unique collection capability. Having once accepted those responsibilities we are totally dismayed as to why Mrs. Clinton and her Staff are not wearing prison orange.

Do you think it helped or hurt the growers to include a bunch of people from out of the area who could not even grow where they lived to a discussion about Nevada County?

Done to me many times. Now Strawser is their target. Thanks goodness the people of the county for the most part are not as extreme as Smith etal.

I had to read this twice. I have shopped at Duane and Connie’s since day one. Great small town business. I had no idea he was a closet tea bagger in bed with right wing extremists with the likes of Todd and Keone. Not only will I certainly not vote for Duane, he has lost my business forever. I believe I am at the tip of the iceberg in the local mt. bike community when it comes to political leanings. This could be an expensive election for the Strawsers. I will do my best to spread the word. Go Heidi!

lol. I have to admit that that’s a particularly evil tendency in modern people of the political persuasion. Somebody disagrees with your pet peeves? Put them out of business, make sure they can’t get a job, get them fired, shame them on social media, hand out personal info on them or their kids.
    It’s all pretty remarkable.
The internet has sped the whole thing up of course. It never forgets, and allows ‘the word’ to get passed around quickly in order to maximize punishment of the wicked.
It applies to companies of course. Imagine the fuss if a Chick fil A moved into the area. A bunch of well meaning people with signs spewing their feelings out about a company that seems to be connected to one of the subgroups (Christians) who are not members of a protected class.
    Gotta love it.

More proof not to believe what some people say about being liberal…by looking at what they do. To me liberal means open minded and allowing others to have another opinion than yours. It’s obscene how some pervert liberal to hide their vicious, hateful mentality towards others with whom they disagree. Historically they represent most of the bloodshed throughout the world. Very ignorant.

I first walked into the Briar Patch (the one on Joerschke Drive) in early 1992. Lots of expensive stuff in small boxes and worm eaten organic produce (some of it more than OK) but also bulk foods at reasonable prices… a firm believer in life being too short for fake maple syrup, they kept my family safe from Log Cabin Syrup for many years. However, with three magazines featuring a smiling Karl Marx on the cover on their rack that day, we called them the “Commie Co-op” from the start.
They mostly lost my business when the Whole Foodsified location opened with new sky high prices. It never dawned on me to not buy at Briar Patch because I didn’t agree with their politics, and I don’t see a Pelline-led boycott of a popular store being a good move for the FUE. Some clever lawyer should probably write a couple of demand letters for all information on “jon smith” on behalf of the aggrieved.

Duane supports (or is supported by) the Tea baggers who advocate the elimination of bike paths, bike trails, and even bike stands because they are spawn of Agenda 21. I don’t pretend to understand his rationale, but have shifted my business to the Bike Emporium in Auburn who advocates for bike trails. My wife recently bought a $4,000.00 bike from Duane (yeah, over the friggin’ top). That will never happen again. Scoop: BONC will be going on record to boycott Duane’s shop.

My, you really know how to hurt a guy, Jon Smith. Where do you stand on those Chinese Lanterns strung across Commerical Street? What are you going to do about the Stonehouse? Or granny units within 500 feet of a park? Boy, this is earth shattering stuff going on in the Berkeley of Da Sierra. Imagine that, a traitor among your midst. Now you are going to drive down the hill to spend your formerly local dollars. And that is also bad for the environment with your carbon footprint increasing with every kilometer on your trek to find serenity in Auburn. And the loss of local sales taxes. Alas, I can bear no more of this local yokel impotent stuff.
Knew a business owner locally that once exchanged pleasantries after hanging up the phone with an unpleasant person. He took a deep breath, exhaled, then said “You never want to lose a customer, but some you are happy when they leave.” Don’t let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya. Happy trails to you..

HELL! Here in PV we have a great bike path, yet some of the peddle pushers refuse to use it, and stay on the busy street.( Yup,, One who decided to hold up traffic, and yes,, I DID point out just where us taxpayers provided him safer riding… ” USE IT YOU SOB!!!”)
Speaking of “bikers”,, Try stopping at stop signs.. They apply to you guys too.
As for “hip” foods, I don’t shop there. “Organic” means just more expensive.
Organic isn’t really environment saving. It uses more water, crops are smaller, and more prone to bug damage and disease.
Down at the local market there was an “organic” whole chicken, and next to it, was the standard grown. The “organic” clucker was scrawny, and 2/3ds the size. and not appealing one bit. Yet three bucks more than the one next to it. If you want to pay more for less,, have at it.

Walt, I’m only repeating what Bonnie M. wrote a couple of months back in the right wing rag under the banner Agenda 21. She writes that bike paths, round abouts, and sidewalks are spawn of Agenda 21 to keep us in line with third world countries where most people don’t have cars. If that isn’t Tea Party gibberish, what is it? Hold up a mirror to the contractors board and you will see a reflection of our farthest right wing nuts. I do not begrudge either the left or the right, but I don’t have much tolerance for extremists in either group. A great thing about being an American is that we have choices. I shop at SPD rather some giant grocery chain by choice. I will no longer shop at Tour of Nevada City bike shop whose owner is supported by a PAC that I despise when Real Wheels is half a mile down the road. Is it somehow wrong to vote with my wallet? It is nice to have choices even if you don’t agree with my choice.

Gregory, the Penn Valley bicycle path is a nice (asphalt paved lanes) seen along Western Gateway Park and beyond. Built with Stimulus Funds I believe.
Sure, you see women on the lane walking their dogs to free range dog park and other walkers as well. Very nice, especially considering there is no true sidewalk along sections near the entrance to the park and the bike lane is a few feet back from the road and it’s shoulder….a shoulder where most of it is non-existent.
Yes, anyone can ride their bicycles on the road (Penn Valley Drive), but not recommended. Be like riding up Pasquale Road to Casacade Shores using the edge or shoulder of the road instead of a specific bike lane just off the road (if there was one in this hypothetical example). Imagine Pasquale Road with 20x the traffic in both directions.
I, myself, have had to slow way down (under 10mph) if there are pedestrians on the street or if some ass wipe cyclists clogs up the lane because there is no reasonable safe passing or driving around cyclists sharing the road. Too narrow for a two lane thoroughfare, no shoulders in spots, and windy curvy road where you can’t always see around the bend. In this respect, Walt is right. There is a nice designated smooth and safe bike path that runs parallel to the main drag. As far a cyclists wanting to get up and go, the whole area is a 25mph speed zone. No going fast.
All in all, not a hill worth defending for me today. Maybe when some pedestrian or cyclist gets their head crushed accidentally by a motorist, then I might revisit the topic.

Jon smith. We all vote with our feet and our wallets. Good thing is we have choices. Some places have more choices than others. If that is how you feel, more power to ya. It is plum unreasonable not to have people condone or voice disapproval of your or my (anybody’s) choices. We don’t have that kind of power, nor should we. As long as you are comfortable in your own skin is all that matters, whether people like it or not. That is what makes America great.
What many are passionate about is the idea that an indivual does not have some choices or rights as the collective indivuals have garnered more rights than the indivual. That is where the real passions come out.

If people are walking their dogs on a bike path it isn’t a bike path anymore. It’s a sidewalk/jogging path. Time for cyclists over the age of 15 with some driving experience to use the parallel street.
Tozer, the lines on a bike path are not a barrier… once, when riding a large SoCal bike path (nice concrete, wide, with a line down the middle) I did a head-on when a 13 year old girl riding with her family decided to just veer into oncoming traffic… me. Came a cropper, flipping over and landing a few yards away. Took me about 15 minutes to decide my hip wasn’t broken and chanced standing up, ended up with a diagnosis of a sprained hip (aka rider’s sprain, not uncommon for horse riders). Couldn’t walk for a couple weeks… I remember thinking that Naprosyn stuff didn’t do a damn thing for the pain and tried not using it… big mistake. In those days I was generally riding well over 150 miles a week, sometimes over 100 miles in a day. Velodromes, too.
I avoided bike paths after that. Too dangerous to ride fast enough to raise a sweat whether I was trying to get somewhere or going nowhere.
Until your road is widened enough to safely pass a cyclist riding legally, you’ll just have to wait until oncoming traffic is clear. That’s the way is is on a number of roads, and it’s the law. And if necessary for safety, even a cyclist can take over the whole lane.

The radical libertarian middle think both are misguided and can expect mistreatment from the main tribes. Yup, it’s a nice day for a bike ride. The “biker gang” was out in force this morning.
( No bike lane on my stretch of road.) Ten of them stretched out for over 100 feet or so, and some closer to the centerline than the right edge of the road. Think the bastards would mover over to let me pass safely? Or ride closer together for the same reason? Nope,,, some days they would rather be pricks. It’s days like this I wish I still had my old diesel pickup that belched a nice black cloud when I stomped on the throttle.
“share the road” works both ways.
So a two lane “bike path” isn’t good enough because “someone” might be walking a pooch on it? GOOD GOD man! What do you yell at the people who are walking on the same road? Plenty NEVER walk against oncoming traffic.

Oh Gregory @ 10:14 in the am.
Do not assume I have never once failed to graciously cede all the time and place it takes to pass a motorist, pedestrian, golf cart thang, or cyclist, motorized or not. Do not make such an assumption as I am one of the good drivers on the road. Even it there is a pack of them, I never have endangered them nor myself nor anyone else on road, public or private. I just hang back and wait, whether i find it inconvient or not. Safety first and besides, they always wave to me or give me the thumbs up for my courteous behavior. In extreme cases, I pull over and let my problems go by.
I will concede however that what I described in Penn Valley is not a true bike path for serious riders. More like the little girl safety path you described. Thus, I know of no true bike only street ready bike paths in Nevada County. There are bike lanes I heard, but can’t think of one off the top of my head. Fair enough.
We all share the road, duh. It’s the law. I share whether it is the law or not. One law I always follow…to avoid crushed skulls. A motorcycle or bicycle against my pickup will always will have the pickup win. But, we are all losers in an accident. Road rage is not my forte. Besides, my limited riding down Greenhorn Road years ago made me realize real quick that this is dangerous, the road too narrow, the shoulder too full of gravel and pine needles, and all in all not a wise idea. I was worried about getting crushed myself, not to mention a busted pelvis or hip. 🙂
Me thinks my words to Jon smith angered you in light of this bicycle thang. Not intended to draw a parallel of individual rights vs the privilege and responsibilities of driving. I submit to authority which is for the betterment of health and safety of the governed (in a perfect world). I oppose power, which is only for the betterment of the one who has power and enriches only that person instead of the governed. Authority is good, power bad.
A group of people have more rights (collective of individuals) than a individual has is an interesting topic in the great divide. I never considered it for motor vehicle laws as such. Hmm. Gotta go. Do you work on MacBook Pros? Anyone you can recommend? My daughter’s crashed, I think it is the battery. Have money, no talent. 🙂

Clarification. Silly clarification, but needed. I have been a good citizen since I stopped consuming firewater a quarter of a century or more ago. So, yeah, with DUI’s long off my record, I still can’t say never did I not endanger anyone on the road. I can say that I am most considerate and aware of my surroundings now that 2 brain cells left. Defensive Driving was how I was taught to drive being a son of a police officer. He used to see a car pull out of a driveway a half mile up the road and yell at me to “Watch Out!, you never know what they will do.” while he was teaching me how to drive the ole wood paneled wagon. Heard that ole station wagon called a Woody is worth some buck nowadays.

Walt, a sidewalk with a human on one side and the leashed dog on the other side isn’t a bike path, it’s an obstacle course. The law requires a cyclist to ride as far to the right as is practicable, and sometimes that’s near the centerline. Too many aren’t as far to the right as they should be, but in my experience there are as many boorish cyclists as a percentage of the total as there are boorish motorists… and they pay the same taxes as you do.
    Found it
    http://www.bylt.org/trail/penn-valley-bike-trail/
“Traversing much of the community, it offers an easy and enjoyable way for locals and visitors to bike or walk between neighborhoods and to access Western Gateway Park.”
Every trail like that I’ve ever encountered has had pedestrians waking side by side, sometimes across the entire path. A little girl with a little handlebar bell riding as fast as I walk will be at home and easily accommodated.
Tozer, thanks for verifying the PV path as one of those little girl safety paths; hey, little girls and boys and their families need a place to ride bikes, too, but they aren’t worth a tinker’s cuss for adult fitness or transportation. Agenda 21 Using Bike Paths to Achieve World Domination-

That the owner of a bike shop would accept money from a PAC made largely of Tea Party, Agenda 21 conspiracy kooks makes no sense to us common folk who enjoy riding our bikes on paths and trails made specifically for . . . bicycles.

OK, I read the article and I could not find one thing in it quoting a Tea Party person. Reuters “story” is bogus to your point about A21. If i missed it please cut and paste the quotes from a Tea Party person. I am sorry you are so afraid of those little old lady veterans that kept your sorry arse safe. What a wimp.

The International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) was created in 1990 as a non-governmental organization to implement Agenda 21 around the world using local organizations. These ICLEI chapters brings the adoption of Agenda 21 down to the local level. California has 111 City and County ICLEI Chapters.
Two Members of the County Staff attend ICLEI training according to a note in the CEO weekly email memo several years ago. California supporters of ICLEI include the California Air Resources Board, Office Depot and Pacific Gas & Electric Company.
Several years ago ICLEI changed its name so we wouldn’t notice that it’s an international organization. It’s now called ICLEI–Local Governments for Sustainability. The web site lists Countries around the world with ICLEI chapters, dedicated to implementing Agenda 21.
But, of coures you know all that as you are probably a member of the local ICLEI Chapter.

RussS 730pm – It appears to me that the only “Agenda 21 conspiracy” that exists is the broad-based effort by America’s progressives to keep that global UN program under wraps so that their gruberized sheeple don’t discover what their plan is. Their continuous denial of its existence and their wholehearted compliance sure looks like another version of the same thing they’re doing denying the science against preventable global warming. Or their denial that Obamacare is bust and delivering nothing it has promised. Or their continuing to support Common Core in the face of evidence that it doesn’t deliver education and its costs are going through the roof. Or …

Here is the comic book version of Agenda 21 that even Todd might understand. This whole thing started with bicycles and you made the pivot to avoid discussing bikes probably because even you realize how friggin’ stupid it sounds to demonize bike bike paths, and bicycle racks at any government building because, according to the Agenda 21 conspiracy freaks, it promotes a one world order.

jon smith is correct. Agenda 21 is a convenient strawman to rile up the undereducated and those easily terrified of change in America, to violently oppose any semblance of traditions, cultures and common sense policies practiced by every other nation on Earth. Unfortunately, even mainstream conservative organizations like the NCCA has fallen prey to this nonsense. Most of the members and leadership are too afraid to tell their Tea Bagger friends they are loony tunes.

No, it is not a secret. It is spelled out in UN documents, participant reports and letters. The goals are quite clear, it just that you fail to acknowledge the long term consequences of the UN initiative. The real goal was wealth distribution, to take from the wealthy countries and distribute it to the third world countries.

I not only own property but built a pump track for my grandson so that he could have fun on his bike before the Tea Baggers bans bikes for fear that we may be encouraging our children to enter the slippery slope of of a one world order.
Yesterday’s discussion encouraged me to Google Agenda 21 + bicycles. Over 200 million hits, most of it by or about Tea Party hysteria with headlines such as “Inside Agenda 21: The International Tyranny of Bike Lanes …”
