We have had an extensive discussion about fossil fuel subsides on RR, with the left claiming that coal, gas and oil get huge subsides, thus subsidies for renewables are need to be competitive. I recently came across this analysis by Willis Eschenbach at WUWT.
A year and a half from now, it will be the 40th anniversary of President Carter’s prophecies of catastrophe. And it will also be the 40th anniversary of the start of the subsidization of the solar and wind power sectors. These subsidies have currently reached astounding levels. Table ES2 from the US Energy Information Agency gives the subsidies of all types (direct expenditures, tax expenditures, R&D, rural utilities subsidy) for 2013, the most recent year available. Here are the results:
In 2013, coal was subsidized about a billion dollars. Natural gas and oil, about $2.3 billion. Nuclear got about $1.7 billion. Total, about $5.0 billion dollars.
Now, how about renewables? Solar energy alone, at $5.3 billion, gets more subsidy than all the fossil fuels put together plus nuclear. And wind energy alone, the recipient of an even larger $5.9 billion dollar subsidy, also is larger than all fossil plus nuclear. In total, the renewable sector got about $15 billion dollars in subsidies, three times that of fossil fuels plus nuclear. More than two-thirds of that went to wind and solar.
And it is getting worse. Despite years of people saying that the solar and wind power were market ready and competitive and all that, in 2010 solar and wind got a total of $6.5 billion dollars in subsidies … and by 2013, the subsidies were up to $11.2 billion dollars.

As Willis notes, these are not the accumulative subsides, but just for 2013, and does not include the billions and billions of the past 36 years of solar and wind subsidies since Jimmy Carter.
I would like to see some counter analysis by our lefty supporters of renewables. How come renewables still require subsidies that exceed those of competitive energy sources, after 36 years subsidies, billions and billions of subsidies.

This was a good week for Republicans and conservatives in the elections. Also, the Sheriff of SF was tossed He was a green party bigmouth.
Obama chose to not approve the Keystone Pipeline so that his pal Warren Buffet’s trains could still haul the oil. So all the oil will still make it here by train. All those jobs are of no concern to Obama as he likes people on welfare. Can’t control those working stiffs like he can the one’s on handouts.
The liberals posting here are so good at showing the people reading this blog why America is in decline under their boy-king. Liberals really are the scourge of the planet and its survival. The countries of Europe will be changing the guard to conservative as they see the mess of the Islamic invasion.

I agree with Todd on XL (sigh). A pipe makes more environmental sense than trucks and trains. Don’t for a second think it was the Sierra Club that swayed Obama’s decision, it was $$$$.
On another topic, why doesn’t George R. throw his hat in the ring for supervisor? Are there skeletons that might come a rattlin’ out of his closet?? Secret deals with the Russians, affairs with cohorts, gay shenanigans? I have no reason to believe these propositions might be true, but if not, I think he would be the right wing fav. I would support Heidi if only to keep shit for brains Juvinall out of the office, but I would be open to seeing what an intelligent guy like GR might have to offer.

Ah yes, the old phony 40,000 jobs figure. No one bought that crap except the right wing partisans. So major kudos to Bill McKibben and Company, and good riddance XL and dirty tar sands! Its a really good day. Now its time for a Jobs Bill in Congress and some infrastructure jobs to keep things from crumbling. Are the righties interested in working people or our infrastructure?

It’s interesting that our liberal know-nothings don’t consider the 30 – 40K jobs building Keystone as any kind of 1) infrastructure construction, and 2) impact on our economy. Wrong on both counts.
When the Left talks about infrastructure construction jobs, they believe these are more permanent jobs than what pipeline companies hire when they build a Keystone. Again wrong. All the hyped infrastructure jobs will have the same permanency as will Keystone. Workers will play the usual migration from job to job as one stretch of highway gets repaired or another bridge built. Permanency with Keystone is equivalent, and so is the impact on our economy. But the lamestream outlets that these people consume keeps them forever ignorant of the real economic and employment dynamics.

Politico, the “news organization” that dreamed up the hit piece that led to this week’s “scandal” concerning Ben Carson, has, without fanfare, greatly revised its story. For example, the original headline, Ben Carson Admits Fabricating West Point Scholarship has been changed to Exclusive: Carson claimed West Point ‘scholarship’ but never applied. The revised version take much, but certainly not all, of the bite out of Politico’s lies and false accusations.
The original version of Politico’s article can be viewed here.
    The revised version is here.

Well, a far as brain surgery and that 3:00 am call goes, looks like Ben, unlike the Democrat Party’s wildly incompetent yet wildly ahead front runner, I would rather have Dr. Carson handle those emergencies next time. Rodclam was asleep at the wheel when the important stuff came down. She bobbled the ball then threw it out of bounds. So there, put that in your peace pipe and smoke it, jonboy.
Speaking of peace pipes, this next weekend (or the one after it) there will be a fundraiser/cry for mercy at the Grange Hall in GV. It will be to help the Navajo Tribe that was so brutally and deceptively poisoned as a direct result of the shameful EPA did to our water supply. The tribe needs your help, especially since the wise EPA declared the water safe to drink. Hmmm, if it was safe to drink, then why where you poking around on the headwaters busting open the “safe to drink toxins”?
Why did the EPA and the eco fascists say the metals and water contain cancer causing poison for years and now say “no cancer causing stuff, drink up, boys.”
Oh, the tribe needs your help to fight the genocide by our own Steve and his puppet string pulling henchmen in government. Saddens me. I feel terrorized.

Keystone and the Exxon investigation are just the latest Kabuki machinations. Meaningless.
The Keystone people had already requested the application be put on hold. Yes, dear friends, it would have created tens of thousands of jobs but the price of fossil fuels ain’t what it used to be and neither is the return on investment expected on Keystone… pushing it into the future was already on the mind of the developers. Six of the eight departments that reviewed the proposal gave it a go… like DHS, the Dept. of Energy (!!!)… the only two that gave thumbs down was a department representing native American tribes and (drum roll, please) the warmistas at the EPA.
Formally turning it down was Obama’s gift to the warmistas preparing for the party in Paris next month.
The Exxon story was breathlessly told on NPR in the last couple of days and it struck me how similar warmista thought is to evangelical Christians. For example, evangelicals seem to think that an unbeliever is without sin if they’d just not heard the word, and so they spend their time spreading the Good News… but if you hear the word and continue without the Lord in your heart, eternal damnation is in your future.
In an uncanny mirror image of that, Exxon is being tarred because they were informed of the Global Warming Truth by one nutcase or another and they are the witch being hunted because they remained climate heretics after the fact, despite the fact that virtually NONE
of the predictions made two and three decades ago have come to pass. The NPR story was heavy with “denier” by which they mean “heretic”… this is religion, not science.

Regarding Carson, that’s truly another witchhunt. Does anyone really think that a bright black kid very active in the ROTC wouldn’t have been pushed towards any of the military academies by the officers he came in contact with, especially the politically connected (meaning every single general)? They’d have been falling over themselves to open the door for him with his local congresscritter happy to have some of the work selecting kids from their district handed to them on a platter.
Not a chance I’d vote for him, but he’s not a witch and does not deserve to be burnt at the stake.

I am thinking of starting a blog page called “Who is jon or Jon” The purpose of the page is collect tidbits of information about “jon” or “Jon” until we have enought information to determine who is who. Some key bits would be any IP addresses that “jon” or “Jon” might be using and of course an email address would be outstanding. Users of the Internet are not really anonymous. If anyone uses the net they leave digital crums to follow back to the source.
My question is, if I create this web page will readers of this blog be willing to partcipate? Willing to post tidbits of information that is revealed in posts by “jon” or “Jon”. For example it appears that” jon” lives in District One. What other bits can you provide?
