[Leaving the 4oct15 sandbox to complete the debate on rampant racism in Nevada County and on RR, we open a fresh one to permit untrammeled consideration of how the Republicans are faring in their selection of a new Speaker against the background of Hillary's Benghazi and email scandals, and the lamestream's coverage of the whole mess. gjr]

Reporter Lachlan Markay of the free beacon is twittering that a woman’s profile on Wikipedia was amended to allege an affair with McCarthy, the IP address that did it is a DHS ip. With the proven Secret Services smear job on Ben Chavetz you got to wonder if they are making a habit of political hits??? This administration has manipulated the IRS and DHS into political hacks and backstabbers through his appointments.

Definitely baggage and something bad surrounding McCarthy. Maybe following in the footsteps of Delay, Hastert Foley, and Livingston, et al. Regardless, he was unable to string 2 sentences together in his recent speeches and TV interviews. A bit of a problem.
Best of luck! Paul Ryan wants no part of this circus- as he ponders a future run for higher office. If people even remember his name.LikeLike

ToddJ 341pm – Todd, work with me. Keep the race stuff on the 4oct15 sandbox. Or better yet, write a piece on race in Nevada County for your own blog. You know the goings on in Nevada County way better than do I, and would also provide a better perspective over the years.
Jon 353pm – I don’t know, you may be right. But not to worry about people remembering Ryan. EVERY Democrat who pays attention will always keep Ryan in mind, and the same goes for most Republicans. I think that guy has plenty of political legs left, his time is yet to come.LikeLike

George, I do agree that Ryan could be a formidable, attractive future Senate or Presidential candidate. He disappeared over the last 3 years- intentionally- to put the 2012 way behind him. The Speaker job has absolute no upside benefit to him, now or in the future. Who was the last Speaker who became Senator or President? That being said, everything you read today says the full court pressure is being applied to him from all sides.

Well if it upsets Peter King this can’t be a bad thing!!
“It is total confusion — a banana republic,” said Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), a Boehner ally, as he recounted seeing a handful of House Republicans weeping Thursday over the downfall of McCarthy and the broader discord. “Any plan, anything you anticipate, who knows what’ll happen. People are crying. They don’t have any idea how this will unfold at all.”

First of all Don, we know there’s no hottie involved here, so lets stop the charade. Secondly, there is not a single doctor I know who closed shop due to Obamacare. List them out, or we don’t believe you. There are many other factors in medicine, starting 20 years ago, that impacts the sustainability of independent medical practice, but Obamacare isn’t one of them. Its actually a net improvement for most practices.LikeLike

That is just nonsense jon. Independent practitioners can’t afford the paperwork burden….that’s why they are quitting in droves and going to work for Kaiser or other industrial medicine providers. This is a feature not a bug for Obamacare …..to bring otherwise independent physicians under the umbrella of control of the bureaucracy.

fish, 10:03, you don’t know how to read apparently, and you don’t really know much about the healthcare system. For the last 15 or so years in particular, docs have been leaving private practice to be bought up by the giants as you mentioned. And as I said, it has very little or nothing to do with Obamacare in nearly every case. In fact Obamacare has greatly increased the pool of providers in many areas in CA and around the country. Clinics and multi specialty groups who know what they are doing are booming in many cities and towns of CA. People are getting long needed care for the first time in decades.
Thanks. Happy to set the record straight.

Sen Tim Kaine (D-VA) gave a major address at the Cato Institute Policy Forum in August. The senator is a member of the Senate’s Committee on Foreign Relations and Armed Services. He made a strong case that Obama is one year into a war in Afghanistan that has no legal authorization and violates existing congressional strictures on the Executive for deploying armed forces. The bad part about that is that Congress has been complicit in letting Obama get away with it.

The way of the dinosaur and dodo?
Physician private practices will almost certainly continue to decline, but they probably aren’t headed for total extinction. Some doctors will resist the temptation to work for larger entities, even if their pay suffers as a result.
While the shift away from private practices was already under way prior to Obamacare, the legislation definitely threw gasoline on the fire. As a result, perhaps another federal action is now needed: adding physician private practices to the endangered species list. Here’s a dirty little secret about recent attempts to fix ObamaCare. The “reforms,” approved by Senate and House leaders this summer and set to advance in the next Congress, adopt many of the Medicare payment reforms already in the Affordable Care Act. Both favor the consolidation of previously independent doctors into salaried roles inside larger institutions, usually tied to a central hospital, in effect ending independent medical practices.

Fewer Doctor-Owned Practices?
More physicians have been compelled to leave individual practice and take salaried positions at hospitals since the Affordable Care Act’s passage, and researchers predict this trend will only become more pronounced over the next few years.
Under the ACA, physician-owned practices must apply for authorization from the Department of Health and Human Services, endure a “community approval” period and be located in an area where population measures are met.http://www.poweryourpractice.com/practice-management/how-affordable-care-act-hurt-practice/
Regardless of the intentions of the administration, a disturbing result of the legislation is that clinicians are closing their practices and many are joining the ranks of hospital-employed providers.
Private practices are spending less time with patients and more with their EMR-enabled devices filling out digital paperwork to satisfy government requirements, all with the ‘mandated intention’ of improving patient care.
Medicare continues to reduce reimbursement amounts and tighten the nooze on private practices.http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-1096549
You could have approached the discussion as well from the premise that every single thing that the federal government does results in a diminution of freedom…which is clearly what is occurring as a result of the law.

Dr. Gottlieb, a physician and resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, is a member of the Health IT Policy Committee that advises the Department of Health and Human Services. He also invests in and advises health-care companies.
Writes for AEI on the topic but advises HHS on health IT matters. HHS thinks he has something to say on the subject. A physician as well…..remember when Sugar Frosted Barry O’s had his white coated flock surrounding him during his the Rose Garden Obamacare sales pitch? We were supposed to trust physicians then weren’t we?
Why not trust a physician now?

hey fish, you don’t get it do you? The inefficiencies, reimbursement problems, and economic viability of private practice started long before Obamacare. The regulatory changes, technology and reporting requirements started long before Obamacare. The drive toward consolidation into large healthcare systems started long before Obamacare. If Obamacare is repealed, the changes in healthcare will continue unabated. So conveniently lazy and inaccurate to wrap all these changes under Obamacare, but its good politically.

Fish excellent comments. The reason health insurance costs rose so much is the interference in the business of insurance. When the government started passing laws requiring them to cover things then all hell broke loose on the cost side. Why should we let the government involve itself? If a company wants to insure only corns on your feet, why or how did it pass they have to cover anything else?

So if we repeal Obamacare these trends will continue but the empirical evidence so far shows that with Obamacare these trends are accelerating. Costs up (faster), consolidation continues (faster), regulatory burden increasing (faster) hey you’re right jon it sounds like a great deal….should have done it years ago!
Actually though no need to repeal we’ll just wait for it to collapse of it own weight soon enough!LikeLike
