[It turns out that socialist Connecticut, one of the most leftwing, richest, and corporatist states in the Union (hedge funds, corporate headquarters, and Wall Street mavens from NYC) "has a huge pension problem' (here).  "Connecticut has roughly half of what it needs to pay future retirement benefits for its workers, meaning the home to scores of hedge funds and some of the country’s wealthiest towns is wrestling with financial distress rivaling that of Kentucky or Illinois."  gjr]

In re: the other “C” word, then may I paraphrase you?
“Well then, its use by the Tucson correspondent would be fine, because he qualified the statement when he made it to say he was referring to the effect of Obama’s policies.”
See how that works? People who don’t want to hear such words shouldn’t use them themselves. Actually, I hadn’t heard that particular racial epithet in probably 50 years until a person of color chose to remind us all of it.
Think of it as a grenade rolled into the collectivist tent, just to see the reaction.

You both have it backwards, what I said was the the use of the word was inappropriate.
“So …um..let me be the first to say it is not OK for anyone to call anyone a “Coon’ whether a college professor from Pennsylvania or a blogger from Nevada County. It is a racial pejorative and thus, other than placed in context to discuss the history of race relations or language, it is inappropriate.”

“Given the above, I believe that anyone – professor or commenter – who uses such labels as ‘coon’ to identify someone should immediately qualify its use as descriptive of the opposed behaviors by the so designated.”
Well then its use by the Pennsylvania professor would be fine, because she qualified the statement when she made it to say she was referring to the affect of Carson’s policies.

Georges statement notwithstanding I’m surprised that anyone thinks that the epithet “coon” could be plausibly associated with any of the effects of any policy or proposal espoused by Ben Carson.

Benghazi remarks by McCarthy were totally accurate. He said Hillary was lying, the committee is seeking the truth and all that has affected her poll numbers. All true. Yes? Big deal. The reason Kevin dropped out is because there are 40 plus members who want a new face. Benghazi is nothing. A

I agree Paul, what are we supposed to say? The guy was hanging around Midtown Sac at closing time for the clubs, with a bunch of drunk, violent men, and drunk women milling about, and he tried to help a woman being accosted. The bar scene there is terrible and heavier police presence and security is definitely warranted.

Todd, you might be good at deluding yourself, but according to my calculations, 30-40 wild far right House Repubbers does not the GOP majority make. None of the other 200+ GOP members are all that thrilled at today’s fiasco. So unless you think these 200+ members are fine with lunatics like Louis Gomert or Trey Gowdy, I am not quite sure the Party is all that relaxed and calm right now.. 🙂
From NYT latest piece- “Some Republicans worried that the current unraveling might be even worse than 1998, which played out in a crisis atmosphere as the House was voting to impeach President Bill Clinton.
“Even then we knew we could resolve it ourselves,” said Representative Pete King, Republican of New York. “But now you have a situation where there are 30 or 40 people in their own party who say they are not going to vote for anyone no matter who it is. We have to end this. We look absolutely crazy.”

Indeed- your friend and mine, and the Pope’s, will still be calling the shots for the foreseeable future. Glory Days! The Freedom Caucus got what they asked for, didn’t they? Racism is racism. Don’t try to make excuses. Your use of language id defiantly racist, no explanation is accepted without at least an apology as to the hurt you cause by such behavior. I can see why black folks feel uncomfortable living here. We are the whitest county in California. The folks of color I know are always overhearing snide racist comments when they are out and about and then there’s the awful incident that happened at Rollins Lake to an out of town family having a reunion.
“Allen said the family, as a group, decided to leave around 2 a.m. Sunday and drove out of the campground. She said it was the first time in her life she had ever experienced such overt racism and it left her deeply shaken.
“Maybe we were a little bit naive to think we could go into an area that is not necessarily known for diversity and think that nothing would happen,” she said.”
