[It turns out that socialist Connecticut, one of the most leftwing, richest, and corporatist states in the Union (hedge funds, corporate headquarters, and Wall Street mavens from NYC) "has a huge pension problem' (here). "Connecticut has roughly half of what it needs to pay future retirement benefits for its workers, meaning the home to scores of hedge funds and some of the country’s wealthiest towns is wrestling with financial distress rivaling that of Kentucky or Illinois." gjr]

Frishy 755a- Didn’t think you would bite on the Debate victory or calling Ben Carson a coon. So you must approve of your like minded brothers use of the term. Closet racists on the left can be brought into focus by their failure to stand up for people of color who don’t hold their world view. Thanks for again showing your true limousine liberal revulsion of uppity blacks who do not tow the party line. There should be EEOC investigation of Frisch’s corp. for failing to hire people of color.

Re Jon’s 957am – Just wanted to weigh in that Carson was right on the money with his advice for everyone to charge the shooter. The optimum decision is an obvious one to all except, again, the progressives. (‘It’s not that they can’t think, it’s just that they have such bad luck when they do.’)
Fortunately for the untold lives saved, this tactic occurred on 9/11 to those aboard Flt 93.LikeLike

The TPP agreement has emerged in all it’s glory. It looks liks Hillary is going to break with Obama on this. Smart move. The Pubsters have been quiet, not a peep. Here is a significant stance she’s taking that should please those with concerns about national sovereignty.
“I was against the Trans-Pacific Partnership months and months ago,” he said. “I believe we need to stop stumbling backwards into bad trade deals.”
Clinton has said she was waiting to see the final deal before making a decision. In her most recent book, Hard Choices, she spoke out against a key provision of the deal known as “Investor-State Dispute Settlement.” That program allows corporations to challenge domestic laws and regulations before an international tribunal.”

Re the TPP, in spite of continuing concerns about the treatment of intellectual property, the 7oct15 WSJ reports, “The Trans-Pacific Partnership, or TPP, promises large economic, strategic and political benefits, reshaping world commerce for decades and adding about $285 billion to global GDP by 2025.”
Now my question becomes – What’s the big deal about the TPP since its projected contribution to global GDP after TEN years will only be about 0.3%?? That’s less than a drop in the bucket. (Stay with me. 2013 GDP = $74T; at 2.5%/yr growth the 2025 GDP will be $99.5T; this yields $285B/$99.5T = 0.0029 = 0.29%.) This indicates that there must be some serious special interests pushing TPP who will be making a lot of money from this global drip.LikeLike

Well of course it legal to carry a legal firearm on an Oregon college campus……just don’t get caught exercising your right!
Oregon law does allow permitted concealed handguns on school property. The New York Times, Media Matters, and others have been quick to pounce on this fact. What has been ignored, however, is that public educators in Oregon have undermined the law by putting bans in faculty and student handbooks.
There may be no criminal sanctions for violating the ban, but faculty face termination and students risk expulsion. Those are life-altering penalties. Faculty members undoubtedly won’t get another academic job if they committed a firearms violation. Expelled students are very unlikely to be admitted into another college.
Although Umpqua can theoretically provide written exemptions for the bans, school president Rita Calvin wouldn’t even let the college’s security guards carry guns.I’m thinking that maybe Rita Calvin should be fired!

What will be interesting to see is if the Repubs back the TPP. The cozy little deal between Obama and the Repubs may come back to haunt them. I can’t see how any Tea Party type Pubber could support it but you never know. for sure that;s where the big money is. Thee is nothing bigger in this election. Interesting to see how the Koch boys play on this. the “Investor-State Dispute Settlement.” is a huge compromise of our national sovereignty. For anyone who wants to educate themselves here’s a link and some info
“ISDS would allow foreign companies to challenge U.S. laws — and potentially to pick up huge payouts from taxpayers — without ever stepping foot in a U.S. court. Here’s how it would work. Imagine that the United States bans a toxic chemical that is often added to gasoline because of its health and environmental consequences. If a foreign company that makes the toxic chemical opposes the law, it would normally have to challenge it in a U.S. court. But with ISDS, the company could skip the U.S. courts and go before an international panel of arbitrators. If the company won, the ruling couldn’t be challenged in U.S. courts, and the arbitration panel could require American taxpayers to cough up millions — and even billions — of dollars in damages. “.

DonB 604pm – It is well known, documented, and nationally reported that Obama’s military lackies have by now purged all flag officers who don’t kiss ass. This ideological house cleaning has even reached down to bird colonel (regimental) levels. So today there are not many left in the senior officer corps who disagree with the CiC or have the career ending guts to do so. Only the lower officer ranks and NCOs remain who can still chafe, but are powerless to even have their voice heard. Those brave enough to try, like the whistleblower SFC, who reported the filing of misleading front line reports, are drummed out of the service after being reassigned to janitorial duties.

Dr. R.- Less well reported is the exodus of his Ukraine, Russian advisors, intel, Isis and other key knowledgeable players. The WH ed secretary departure fluff was a timely distraction. The grape vine has it that even the depleted ranks of truth tellers have had all their proposals rejected by big barry. What are the odds 0 drags us through a veto of the defense bill thus seriously delaying all priority acquisition capitol projects? This neutering of the military capability in time of war is criminal. It is my expectation he will ignore everyone again like Iraq and arbitrarily abandon Afghanistan next year. Lets hope the ghosts of the fallen hero warriors haunt his reaming years of sleep.

That was nothing like the attack ad the NAACP ran against Gov Bush after James Byrd was dragged down a gravel road 200 miles away. They sure made good politicial ads back then, and bumper stickers. The nuke bomb attack ad on Goldwater only aired once, but it was one of the best. Little girl in pretty dress picking pedals off a flower, then Boom!, the nuke incinerates her. You know, I heard a black woman on the radio who had a great point. She said all the media says “a racial prejorative” was hurled. Well, she wants to know exactly what the word(s) are. By cloaking everything under the umbrella of “racial epitaph” (and there are many other umbrellas) we sort of dilute the the whole racial taboo thang. Her point is say it so the listener/reader can hear for themselves what the slur was. Was it the N word,or a hell of a lot worse or even benign? Then we can make up our own judgements. She had a point.
I, for one, would like to know what those punks at Rollins said. By not knowing I can only imagine and thus I know nothing.LikeLike

You are the stated leader of the progressive element in Nevada City. Take a stand for racial equality and respect regardless of the individuals political persuasion. re StevenF’s 813am – A person cannot pick his parents or birthplace or the conditions into which he was born. To denigrate someone for a past not of his making is, in my mind, inappropriate and says that the argument against the denigrated person has gone bankrupt.
This admonition should not be confused with the deliberate use of pejoratives to label and/or denigrate a person for behaviors and beliefs which he adopted after achieving majority. As an example of this category I offer my use of ‘raghead’ for Muslim terrorists of mostly Mideast extraction.
Given the above, I believe that anyone – professor or commenter – who uses such labels as ‘coon’ to identify someone should immediately qualify its use as descriptive of the opposed behaviors by the so designated. And this is especially important for words like ‘coon’, ‘nigger’, ‘kike’, ‘mick’, ‘wop’, …, which historically have been used to denigrate only on the basis of race or ethnicity or national origin – all low and unworthy blows, especially in a liberal society such as ours.LikeLike
-
There is a big difference between saying someone 2000 miles away who used a pejorative after it is reported in the media should be accountable, and holding someone you are in direct contact with in a small circle, accountable. One is responding to hype the other is a social and moral responsibility.
I expect more than crickets, I expect a vigorous defense of free speech.
Yep, people are free to be racists.LikeLike

StevenF 903am – I don’t think so. Were some other (say, white) candidate to promote the same policies as Dr Carson, the professor would not and has not called them a ‘coon’. That appellation was assigned to Carson because he was also black, and it was clearly meant to attribute him with the demeaning characteristics for blacks stereotyped during the Jim Crow era. It is odd that progressives are blind to that when one of their own uses such pejoratives.

You must have misread my post, I said that under George’s description, which I quoted, the Professors use would be fine.
George has since modified his statement, and I agree with him; it was intended to be demeaning based on race not a position or issue, in which case it is not fine.
Which means Larry’s use is not fine either.LikeLike
