[Wow! I take a little trip into Preconnectivity Land and the sandbox overflows – isn't Hillary's email scandal grand? But boys and girls, let's not forget that the woman has soooo many other scandals to answer for, so concentrating all our energies unraveling her email fu@% ups will work to her benefit if the Dems and the lamestream (with a cooperating FBI and DoJ) can bundle it up and make the whole thing go away. Trying to jump onto another scandal (take your pick) will then seem like so much witch hunting – 'well we didn't get you with the emails, now let's try Benghazi.' My take is that we need to keep her whole ball of putrid wax in focus; compromising national security through her email shenanigans is just one reason she's not qualified for the WH. gjr]

A summary of the Manhattan Institute by People for the American Way.
“The Manhattan Institute is an increasingly prominent conservative think-tank that promotes limited government and free-market idealism. The organization has attacked minority-focused policies including affirmative action, civil rights initiatives, and immigrant support programs as obstacles to full social integration and to the benefits of the market system. The Institute heavily promotes school vouchers, saying that competition as the best way to improve public schools.”LikeLike

StevenF 459pm – Almost everything you say in this comment is completely false. The only exception may be what central planners consider the reasonable range of uncertainty that advocate making draconian social policy. As just one point in a legion I will not go into since its been so well covered in these pages – the variance on the output of GCM models has not decreased in the last 25 years which the IPCC admits and laments. And the more we learn about what we don’t know about GCM constituents (i.e. sub-processes) – yes, including the carbon cycle – the more the output variance tends to increase today instead of decreasing as the models are updated. This, for those so trained, is a clear corroboration of increasing ignorance about the underlying process of climate change.
The benefit of such discovered ignorance is that it points to directions for new and productive research – in short, that’s the way science is done. You should really try to understand what NOAA is saying in the link I provided in my 439pm, especially in the part ‘What don’t we know about the Carbon Cycle?’
For the technical reader, the GCM variance point is addressed more directly here –

Here is a stat that explains the true results of 0’s economic policies- in 2008 the list of countries for whom the US was the biggest trading partner numbered 44 and china had 12 countries on its list. In 2014 the US had 32 and china had 43. How’s that socialism working out for you dems?

Walt and others,
The reason models are just educated guesses is due to thresholds. There are certain thresholds we don’t know or understand. On the ones we believe we understand we don’t know what will happen but take an educated guess by the understanding we do have of the cycle.
This will trigger that and that will trigger another change and so on. What we are finding out are the models seem to be on the conservative side and things are moving faster than once believed they would.LikeLike
-
BenE 631pm – Not quite Ben. I don’t exactly know of what “thresholds” you speak – there are so many in complex dynamic systems simulation models – but that type of ignorance is just one of many that are embedded in and marbled through our contending GCM modeols (yes, there are several of them, even though the layman thinks there is one blessed GCM model in the sky that spews truth about the future).

People for the American Way was created by Norman Lear as a vehicle to trash Christians. Why would anyone care if they hate capitalist-ism? You need to go get some better references.
The CSPAN viedo is very informative but liberals will not watch it. They want to stay ignorant.LikeLike

George,
It is not worth it for me to go find the studies but am giving layman summary. Once something becomes very evident it is changing not just an anomaly it is basically too late. The best thing we can do is try and mitigate the new normal and try to halt further changes. The earth is going to be fine it is going to be the living conditions for humans that will continue to change. Eventually all human life will be in reaction of climate instead of steady predictable cycles, which is funny since conservatives want steady and predictable. That is why my position Republican partisanship has overpowered conservatism and the party is corporatist/ fascist. Bottom lines trump everything else, especially personal responsibility and commitment to community.LikeLike

George,
First off lets talk about the need for voter id laws. The Bush administration spent years looking for voter fraud and found less than 0.005. So voter Id laws are a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. In the process it creates more obstacles for traditional Democratic Party Voters. The same result is found over and over again. So who is behind these laws? ALEC a right wing legislative group.
Lets try one study first and maybe move on. http://www.propublica.org/article/everything-youve-ever-wanted-to-know-about-voter-id-laws
My guess this is the same study mentioned in the article.

Ben. ONE is too many.
Voter fraud is rampant, on the LIB side. But I’m not going to waste my time. YOU can find the facts just as easy if you cared. to.(but you don’t)
LIBS HAVE been prosecuted. You can find that info too.
You may now replace your head in that sand hole.LikeLike

Good analysis Walt. Wipe out the constitutional rights of hundreds of thousands to possibly avoid a .00005% voter fraud rate!

Fortunately my opinions are held by the majority of Americans. Yours are held by the few communists left over after the wall came down. But a good commie can get it right once in a blue moon and we just had one.LikeLike
-
My goodness! ‘Wiping out constitutional rights of hundreds of thousands’ and an imperceptible percentage of voter fraud convictions given the number of voters. I don’t know how to respond to such tripe. What constitutional rights have been wiped out? Prima facie evidence exists in spades that voter fraud occurs (more people vote in jurisdictions than are registered, or living there, or even alive) yet it is one of the hardest things to prove under our justice system, hence the low rates always cited by progressives who want a universal franchise on voters and votes as long as they can be cast or stuffed.
Your argument would be advanced by citing data of lower voter turnout (especially among the minorities) in jurisdictions that require some presentation of voter bona fides. But that, alas, is unavailable.LikeLike

Jon 1043am – This comment again confirms that such a simplistic views do indeed organize your world and give you great comfort. In this case it sure beats examining the minority voting stats of jurisdictions that have incorporated measures to vet franchised voters.

Actually we want all the eligible people in America to vote. If they can’t afford a ID we have made a free one available. UPS will even deliver it to the address. A person only has to take responsibility to actually vote. We have made vote by mail a regular activity all across America. We even allow same day registration when the voter makes it to the polling place. It seems we have done our best to accommodate every America in their voting activity.
It is the low information people like “jon” who don’t know all this. Those complaining about the ID are simply racist and lazy.LikeLike
-
Someone should point the ‘jon’ crew to the standards for voting that we apply to other countries when we evaluate the vote as fair or not. They are always required to have hard i.d. and voter fraud provisions such as the ubiquitous finger dip in purple.

I know it’s difficult for middle class white folks to understand why poor folks have such a hard time getting the I.D. they need to vote, but there are times the system works against them.
Take the voter I.D. law passed in Texas a couple of years ago. The law said you need an I.D. issued by DMV to vote. If you couldn’t afford it, the state would waive the fee. Sounds fair, right?
Well, about 20 percent of the state’s population–mainly rural poor people–live at least 100 miles from the nearest DMV office. At the time, all Texas DMV offices were open Monday through Friday, 8 to 5.
If you couldn’t get a ride, couldn’t take time off from work, or couldn’t afford to miss a day of work, you were out of luck. That’s why a federal judge tossed the law and told the state to try again.
I’m sure it was just a coincidence that the Republican-controlled state government passed a law that would primarily impact people who are likely to vote Democrat.LikeLike

I’m sure it was just a coincidence that the Republican-controlled state government passed a law that would primarily impact people who are likely to vote Democrat.
You know George instead of just hauling democrat lever pullers to the polls on election day TEAM EVIL might consider renting buses and taking them to the DMV for proper ID as well during the 6 or 7 months leading up to an election. If voting is as important as it is made out to be maybe someone misses a day of work as good faith towards exercising the franchise.
Good for us, good for them….good for “AMERICA”!LikeLike

“State and local officials convened a voter fraud task force to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators of this scheme.
The task force secured 46 convictions over a few years.
Many of these would-be election thieves submitted absentee ballots despite not even living in the city of East Chicago.”
And here, the Washington Compost tries to downplay the problem. ( As I said before, ONE is too many)

Given the truth of the reports about the racist assault on the black family’s reunion celebration at Rollins Reservoir this weekend, I am truly saddened and ashamed that such people still live among us. They should feel the full effect of the law for their actions, and the county administration should represent our feelings by sending them a heartfelt apology for the insults they suffered at the hands of our neighbors.
