[While the old sandbox was getting full, the comment thread on the externalities post kind of petered out and segued into looking at the externalities implied by AGW, and then it started circling the old climate change barn again.  A request was made to continue it here – fair enough.

But before diving in one more time, I’d like to point out some strongly orthogonal aspects of discussing climate change cum AGW.  Having ignored or not understood them in the past has led to the predictable Nowhere.  Here’s a partial list –

- Verity of paleo climate records, - Verity of recent – last 50K years – climate measurements,

- Definitions of earth’s atmospheric temperature,

- Definitions of sea levels,

- Data handling methods to create a usable sets of inputs to models,

- Knowledge of climate physics – terrestrial and extra-terrestrial – viz sub-processes and their large scale integration (e.g. the earth’s carbon cycle, cosmic rays impact on cloud cover),

- General Circulation Models (GCMs) – their design, programming, and testing,

- Validating GCMs – data sets used, performance criteria, selection/tuning of model constants, sub-model transfer functions and stabilities (bifurcations to chaos), sensitivity to inputs, …

- Interpretation of GCM outputs – obtaining reliable variance measures, accept/reject criteria, …

– Understanding the impact of human interventions on climate (let alonge AGW).

In a reasonable world (not the one we live in), debating climate change between people who understand the science, math, and modeling (of complex, stochastic, dynamic systems), and those who don’t is not possible.  One side can cite and interpret the technical literature, and other side can only appeal to ‘consensus science’ or my scientist(s) are smarter than your scientist(s).  Nevertheless, in today’s world such debates are exciting, important, and even fun – each side viewing the other as unredeemable troglodytes.   When the participants are tired of finally insulting the quality of their opponents’ double helixes, and the debate “is heard no more: it (was again) a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing”, nevertheless but advising public policies penned by grossly ignorant and hubristic central planners.  Have at it.  gjr]

The R’s are going to trounce the democrat fools running for President. My goodness are those morons the best you can come up with? Apparently so since you kicked out the John Kennedy types and replaced them with Bernie Sanders idiots. I really have to thank the democrats for their candidates. What a blessing!

Just like the phone call between Trump and the RNC. ” Trump told to tone it down!”
And Trump would have told them to pound sand. “click”… Was LIB news in on the conference call? So who told LIB news what was said? The RNC?? LOL!! WHY??
Now wait for John Stewart to give you the real story. ( we know our LIBS take Stew’s word as gospel) Yup , comic “news” is the real deal. ( yet LIBS piss and moan about Rush)

Love it. Trump top dog in every poll. Hillary has to break down and talk to the press just to stay in the dim lime light. ( then lie through her teeth.)
Sanders has to piss off DEMS and speak favorably about the 2ND Amendment.

So, some don’t like Trump. He is a bit unpolished. He just says what millions are thinking but would never utter aloud. We owe the illegal uninvited guest who came here yesterday zero, nada, nilch, zilch. These uninvited guests from primitive cultures who have no respect for women and children owe us. They owe us plenty, we owe them nothing.
Changing gears, here is something I hope we can all agree on. It ain’t going to get any cheaper for the average Joe:

I’m for anyone who is not a mainstream Pubber or Demo. Amazing how fast the Pubs have dumped Rand Paul. Bernie will suffer the same fate. Hillary and Bush III are mainstream through and through and will be big time TPP supporters, by far the most important issue of the day. That’s where all the big money is. Obama will leave that as his true legacy. No doubt it will continue to be supported by the mainstream pubbers. The Tea Party (remember that) have been successfully neutered and offered only piddley resistance despite their grand proclamations of American sovereignty.

Funny, no call or e-mail yet from John (Spencer?) either. He seems happy to trash the organization I work for from the thinly veiled anonymity of a blog but an actual sit down to discuss things directly and civilly is rejected.
The funny thing is that if we did sit down I could do a pretty good job answering many of his questions and we would probably find substantive areas of common ground. By the way, in case you missed it, the reason I would answer his question is that I like and respect the people I work with too much to drag them unwilling into what I think of as a cesspool.
Jon, I don’t know you, but I sure as heck hope this is merely a humorous derivative sidelight and you are in some field where you go out and put your thoughts into action every day, because we need people like you fighting for the future.

So all you taxpayers and out of work Americans can now rest easy. One in ten of the people inside the borders are not supposed to be here and they have your jobs.

Actually have spent my entire career in the private sector-business operations and strategic consulting, and am definitely in the process of re-evaluating future opportunities that may better align with my values. Hope to catch you some time, somewhere probably up in your neck and introduce myself. As I said- as we travel around the Donner/Truckee/North Shore area- I always seem to see signs of the good works of your organization. Much respect.

Karl Rove (remember him?) says Trump’s Republican support comes from “people who believe the country is going down the tubes and are angry that the GOP hasn’t stopped President Obama.” Rove predicts Trump won’t get the nomination, but will make life tougher for the Republican nominee.
The Wall Street Journal editorializes today that Trump “won’t win a GOP caucus or primary, but he is notable as a Democratic weapon against the Republicans.” His bombast “doesn’t represent the Republican Party. It represents what Hillary Clinton and her media allies want voters to believe about the Republican Party.”
Go ahead guys, keep boosting Trump. Hillary will thank you later.

GeorgeB, Trump is actually helping the party and showing the American people a candor missing with the rest. Well except for Cruz, Fiorina and Walker. The democrats are self destructing with a crummy set of candidates and the people won’t put any of them in power. You libs always think someone on the right will tarnish the rest but the opposite is true. The R’s have two Hispanics, one black and a woman running as well as some crackers. The democrats have some fools. I just laugh my ass off at comments like Boardmens. George B, the other thing I find curious is that all “true” Repubs for years reminded us of the Reagan Rule- no criticizing of fellow Repubs. It was verboten. But somehow The Donald now gets a pass? Have you seen and read his nasty, personal insults against his fellow candidates and Repub cohorts? GW Bush had “no IQ” for example, just as one small example. Jon, find the interview yourself. I’ll bet it’s about denying oil revenues to ISIS, not giving the middle east to Exxon.
And now for something completely different… on the front page of today’s Union, the person who wrote the disturbing email about the “Tea Party” entry in the Grass Valley July 4th parade is the same retired (and in my hyperbolic opinion, certifiable nutcase) continuation school teacher (and current NJUHSD trustee) who slimed me in The Union, Linda Campbell.
She “is publicly apologizing and offering an olive branch in the form of volunteer hours as an educator on the topic of the U.S. Constitution”; how special.

re Gregory 1208pm – No one has the courage to call the illegal aliens here who entered illegally by what they are – either ‘illegal alien’ or ‘illegal entrant’. Calling them illegal immigrants (or worse, ‘undocumented immigrants’) not only blurs their status, but is plain wrong. Immigration is a two-way deal between accepting country and a legally entering alien who at that point becomes an immigrant. By subsequently violating immigration laws, their legal status may lapse and then they become ‘illegal immigrants’ if they stay in the US. However, the illegal entrants are a whole different kettle of fish, and blurring their label only serves the Democrat/progressive agenda and/or the people from whom thinking is hard – that includes Fox News.

    http://rebaneruminations.typepad.com/rebanes_ruminations/2010/05/the-porous-borders-and-amnesty-act.html
But no one gives a crap, and we still characterize them as people who belong here if they only had a piece of paper or two. And we wonder why we’re losing the illegal alien battle along with the ‘war on terror’ (also mislabeled). These are Orwell’s foretold results of using Newspeak.

Paul Emery (12:50PM), I won’t insult your intelligence by suggesting that you really believe what you just wrote.
We have a SCOTUS case that overturned AZ’s law to hold arrested illegal aliens for the INS who didn’t want them, now we have a young woman shot and killed by a criminal alien who, despite being deported multiple times, was released by a ‘sanctuary city’ in a sanctuary state that refused a direct request by the Feds to hold the criminal alien and release them to the INS, not the streets of ‘Frisco.
So Paul, can’t you tell the difference between anarchy and local control?
