This is a continuation of the crap that’s going on with Russia in the Ukraine and Iran in Iraq and Yemen, and who knows what else is cooking where.  The common denominator for the world’s bad guys is to ‘make hay while Obama shines’, and I purposely use ‘shine’ in its two meanings.  The man’s weaknesses and incompetence on the world scene are as apparent to all as are his lies to Americans.  gjr]

Of course that’s your opinion on tar sands. The plumbing may be rusting for quite a while. There is no clear path to the West for Tar Sands oil right now across the Canadian Rockies toward the BC Coast, and no clear path via XL. A legal and moral logjam. You should visit BC sometime and find out the sentiment. You know, I don’t want anyone buying tar sands oil.
Oh, deflection of what may I ask?

“O” is in control of 10 feet of pipe. The part the crosses the boarder.
The studies and approval process has been completed. All the excuses for holding it up are gone. “O” just wants to be a dick about it.
There is plenty of oil pipe all over the place out there as it is. ( go find the map)
Canada will have no problem getting over the mountains. This IS the 21ST century.
If you can’t go over them,, go through them.
Hell we could tap the bottom of Lake Tahoe if we really wanted too. (horizontal drilling works great)
BTW,, how many oil trains owned by big LIB Buffet have gone off the rails? How many environmental disasters has he alone created? ( His trains, his damage.)
“O” and Co. won’t even demand upgrades to tank cars, because it will cut into Buffet’s profits.

Wow, what a kool aid drinking Pelosi talking point spewing piece of work ‘jon’ or whatever is. The draft?!?! Really! Think progress.org as source what a joke. Geologically speaking having regular little quakes keeps the stresses from building. Lets not forget that it was not that long ago (in geologic terms) that the mid west had a massive earthquake that had the Mississippi reverse flow for a bit. Better we process and export the Canadian oil to friends than have it shipped to china for it only to be shipped back here as smog from a country that does not have any pollution limits on its business. State owned is the name of the game in china. ‘moral logjam’, ha. Ol’ ben best get an update on the actual power produced at the giant solar farms v. projections say the giga-plant in so cal or the whole British wind- solar efforts. In spite of the billions thrown at the issue they still do not make financial sense. I know if only we go back to subsistence farming we would not need such a big distribution system that gobbles fuel and causes global warming. Cow farts to that. lol 😉

We only have to figure out how to harness it for use without BKing the planet/ You are still at your, “I hate the two big parties” mantra and it really does not concern me. Walt, you don’t understand about Canadian process do you? If BC and/or the First Nations don’t want the pipe, it will never happen. Several other coal, oil and gas projects have already been shelved due to opposition. The majority of BC, the Govt. of BC, and 130 of the First Nation tribes do not want it. Neither Ottawa nor Enbridge or Kinder Morgan cannot force it through. BC is a progressive Province, much like WA and OR.

    3. CA is on track to hit 30% of its energy sourced from renewables in advance of 2020, and because of the speed of the transition, Gov. Brown has now set the goal of 50% by 2030. Nothing to laugh about, but rather to be lauded. Gas prices didn’t go through the roof relative to other states, as predicted in January, even accounting for the lower price of oil.

(Some have even been shelved in WA and OR on this side of the border- mostly coal ports). Hyper-regulation is stopping Enbridge? Where do you read that? Come spend a month in that region like I did, and learn. BC is not enamored by the promises of these extraction and pipeline outfits. Earthquakes, the EPA and snow storms have nothing to do with BC pipeline opposition. At this point, you are honestly ignorant of the issues in Canada, so take the time to read about it. Still not addressing the main issue that so called renewables are not. They are a money pit that waste the peoples money. Dig deeper on Think progress. org. They are a shill that is part of the network that has been set up to hype the soros friendly or funded groups. Group a issues study, group b writes an op ed on the piece and another in the network that hawks for one view cites it as peer reviewed facts. People who fell for that game have heard the truth about the fudging on the models and active suppression of any inconvenient facts as shown in their own emails. Hell you guys are so afraid of the truth that your high priests are now advocating for legal suppression of those who’s opinions do not buy the Brooklyn bridge being sold by your gang. When you are afraid of the press allowing debate you have nothing left mr lefty. That’s why the issue is now off the radar of the worlds population now after having gained traction for some time. If BC is such a wonderful bastion of progressives world views I am sure you have a place at the social services table. Oh the first nations say so huh, that would not convince my humming birds. So nothing on your lame draft post? Me thinks you are the chicken hawk here who postures about issues you have nothing to do with. I think the view of the actual professional warriors matters more than some chardonnay sipping (insert boutique craft brews as appropriate) dilatant. The boogie man of a new draft continues to fail as an anti war straw man. People now know what a professional military can do.

The use of renewable energy has many potential benefits, including a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, the diversification of energy supplies and a reduced dependency on fossil fuel markets (in particular, oil and gas). The growth of renewable energy sources may also have the potential to stimulate employment in the EU, through the creation of jobs in new ‘green’ technologies.

The study that you posted was just a bunch of BS. The authors of the study said that we could switch all of our energy supply to be from renewables if we would build the installations that would cover 1.3% of the land area of the earth and somehow build transmission lines to transfer the power from the sunny side of the planet to the dark side so as to avoid the transient nature of wind and solar.
This like saying in order to solve the California water problem all we need to do is have more water.. well duh
It would have been great to have more information as to how the author proposes to accomplish this.

Corporate interests seek to wrest local control from municipalities:
republicans seek to bypass local authority (ie laws) that might harm corporate profits.
Exg. 1 – The town of Denton, Texas (the birthplace of fracking) passed a fracking ban (the town has 270 gas wells within its city limits) last November. Within hours petroleum groups filed legal challenges disputing the city’s authority to pass such a bill. Several bills are now in the Texas state legislature that would pre-empt localities from passing similar bans. In the meantime the fracking continues in Denton despite the ban.
Exg 2 – After intense lobbying by the NRA, the republican controlled Pennsylvania legislature passed ACT 192 allowing “organizations” like the NRA to sue local governments that pass gun restrictions. This came about over a law passed by the city council of Jenkintown which required citizens to report any lost or stolen gun within 72 hours. According to the mayor, “We have a very small budget in this town and we really can’t afford to defend a lawsuit against an organization with deep pockets like the NRA. We really had no choice but to rescind this ordinance and take it off the books.” Jonathan Goldstein, NRA’s attorney in Pennsylvania, stated: “What’s at issue is that the municipalities have no right, have no authority, have no power to pass those sorts of laws.”
Exg 3 – The city of Milwaukee passed a bill requiring companies to provide paid sick leave for their employees. At the behest of numerous “trade organizations” Scott Walker and the republicans in the state legislature responded by passing a bill banning any local government from passing a paid sick leave bill. That bill was picked up by ALEC as a model and spread to 10 other states.
So the question is whether or not it is acceptable for corporations and their lobbying groups to meddle in local affairs and use their virtually unlimited funds to bully citizens? Is local control a joke in corporate America? At what point do the profits of corporations supersede the rights of citizens to determine how they want their cities and towns to function? In other words, what should come first, citizen’s rights or corporate profits?

Walt, it is hard to estimate the CO2 emissions from a volcano, but here are some things to consider.
Experts said the eruption of Holuhraun volcano in Iceland, which has been erupting since 11 September 2014 is emitting 150,000 to 300,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per day, a figure comparable to emissions released from a small industrial nation.
The estimation is based on gas composition of an earlier eruption on a volcano adjacent to the Eyjafjallajokull volcano. If figures are correct, the CO2 released by this volcano would be “150,000 tons per day,” Colin Macpherson, an Earth scientist at Britain’s University of Durham, said in an email to the AFP news agency. Patrick Allard of the Paris Institute for Global Physics (IPGP) said the amount could be as high as 300,000 tons per day. Both experts added that these were only approximate estimates.
That said, studied have not found any blips in the CO2 emission as measured on Mauna Loa when there is a major volcano eruption. HERE is a sample graphic comparing some major eruptions.
One of the reasons that land based volcano eruption do not show up in the emission measurement is the continous emissions from underwater volcanic vents is much larger. There are thousands of vents all along the earth’s 40,000+ miles of tectonic rifts. These vents are constantly emitting gas with carbon dioxide making up the major portion. HERE is an article on the arctic ocean vents.
Guest essay by Martin Hovland, Geophysiscist and Professor Emeritus, Center for Geobiology, University of Bergen, Norway at WUWT.
The newly released satellite OCO2-data indicates that there is CO2 input in tectonically active oceanic areas. This becomes evident by pairing seafloor topography and tectonic data with the recently published OCO2-results. Thus, in the released OCO2 dataset, showing the average atmospheric concentration of CO2 over a period of about 6 weeks late in 2014, there are three curious, relatively week, but distinct CO2-hotspots over oceanic regions.
