[Economic development season is rolling around again in Nevada County.  What directions should it take and how do we do it in this small mountain county off the beaten path?  Our ERC will kick things off this year with a confab on the topic this Thursday in the GV vets hall.  They do welcome ideas, so sally forth! – gjr]

If it was about who corrects mistakes then a polite reply on R.L. Crabbs’ blog would have been sufficient. This and the matter of who are philistines made it the disgustingly petty product of an astonishingly small man.

Funny, but the rant by David Talbot I posted on my blog about “San Francisco values” could easily be about people like Jeff. They move in with money and a diploma and throw their weight around. Yes, in my life I have voted for all kinds of people represented by many parties. But since I voted for the Tom Bradley in 81 or so (for governor), I have decided that the closest people and party to my philosophy are the R’s. So, for your attempt at somehow thinking we would think you are a great guy because you voted for a R or whatever, have at it. You provide a constant belly laugh for me and others here as we know your positions and favortes from what you write. Anyway ROTFLMAO as usual when I read your ditties.

White Knight? I am just a very small piece in the economic puzzle, as we only have two employees. There is no White Knight that is going save anyone, and furthermore, we do not need saving. We need to work together as a community. Jim Firth is whining about the lack of internet connectivity. When is the last time he spoke to John Paul? They are on the cusp. Jeff Pelline is more interested in division rather than unity. Last night was truly amazing. The whole community seemed to be there simply evidencing a strong team with a vision. A speaker did comment on how this whole community seems to get along so well. The audience chuckled and someone at my table (whom I had never before met) mentioned the FUE. Apparently you have a reputation that precedes you. In stead of shouting nastiness from the cheap seats, you (and Firth) need to get with the program and build bridges as opposed to dive bombing them daily. If you cannot work with the people who grew up here, you should consider relocation or simply retreating to your lovely home eating chili fries and not bothering those trying to make our community better. In any event, the community on display last night was inspiring. Don’t soil that with your pettiness.

  23. Todd Juvinall Avatar

Even though Firth is a lib shiner at last he tried to run for office. Pelline is unable to leave his own home and has to have the chili fries delivered. LOL!
The community has morphed over time into a service dominated/government employee dominated place. The same thing was happening many years ago in Lassen and Plumas and Sierra counties as the state and feds locked down the natural resources of their counties. Nevada County is now a predominate government employee county. City, county, schools, Ca;Trans, Forest Service etc. The fact we cannot seem to even get local government to allow the legal process to create a business such as the San Juan mine shows there are no longer any people in charge except the staff. I hope I am wrong but the inexorable move to tax eaters like all the “non-profits” and eco nut groups does not bode well for keeping the young people here. The Pelline’s of the community certainly drive away any potential employers as his nastiness turns them off.

I’m doing just fine. Honest. I’m worried about your temperament, though. BTW, instead of speaking to John Paul, I have had regular discussions with the CPUC — the ones that will approve the 1G contract. There have been some hiccups with that project, including opposition from a “WISP” provider that hasn’t been reported, but it will be approved. I expect it to get on the agenda in March. We run in different circles, to be sure, but I get around. LOL.

    Russ,
“Meddling?” What an asinine remark. The CUPC is a public entity. The project is being funded with taxpayer dollars. I identified myself as a journalist/blogger and they answered my questions. It’s all about transparency with the CPUC, and that’s a good thing. In fact, they asked my opinion on the project too. I said I supported it. Good probing questions. We had a great conversation. We also talked about the days when I covered the CPUC for The Chronicle. If my conversation had a “negative impact” on the outcome of this project, then it wasn’t a very strong project to begin with. On the other hand, it’s enlightening because it shines a light on the great sense of entitlement and provincialism that exists in some segments of our community. Think of the glass as half full: Instead of blaming me if the project isn’t approved, how about crediting me if it is? LOL.

I think the disdain here for Jeff Pelline is out of jealousy. Why else do you spend so much time and energy on him? He is a successful journalist that has been trained to asked probing questions and how to digest and process the answers. Some of it has to do with ongoing personal fights, which I will not get involved or participate. Just because we do not agree with each other that doesn’t mean the other person is a clueless moron. I will admit I do not extend that kind of respect to Todd J. but in my opinion he has earned the treatment and label of “moron” from those who oppose his views unless we are talking about contracting, then my guess he has lots to offer.

Ben Emery, gosh, I guess I must be stuck in the past according to you. I am kind of nostalgic for the days before you libs started over-regulating every little thing and taking the freedoms from the people. Yep, I get a little glassy eyed about that. Also, you libs have taken opportunity to prosper away from entrepreneurs by stealing their property and giving it to others. I get teary about that too. But hey, I am a self taught computer guy starting in 1986 and have come to realize their value in getting the truth out. Of course the libs never tell the truth so it is a full time job for me and others to ensure your farcical views are contested.
Lastly, since I probably put 40 million bucks through the local economy over my construction years, and hired hundreds of locals, I would expect a little more sympathy from a social “taker” such as yourself. And as always, ROTFLMAO!

Yes because if there is a discipline that really impresses me it’s journalism! Hah!
Who else has professional covered energy, natural resource, and tech giants of the silicon valley during the boom of the 80’s and 90’s?
He shouldn’t have….I’ve seen some of his old stuff…..an eight grader could whomp up a “Jeff Pelline Randon Content Generator” that could have produced output of equal quality. Ironically getting out of the newspaper business has allowed him to do what he probably should have been doing all along…..writing about food…..on that topic he’s a regular Mozart!
He has the training, experience, and understanding of how approach an issue with these issues. The jealously shines brightly when criticisms are accompanied by personal (school yard bullying) attacks on him personally
Again more psychological analysis of questionable quality from Ben the erstwhile nursing student. The saddest part of the whole affair is that of every one who posts here jeffy has the worst command of the written language. Northwestern should ask for their degree back! George, Russ, Greg, Frisch all write better quality posts and responses than the great wordsmith! Hell even Tozer and Todd bring more to the table than Nevada Counties answer to Hedda Hopper.
    But hey…If he impresses you…….

Todd 12:34 –Same mechanism, different sides of the fence. Back to the old saying that one person’s freedom fighter is another persons terrorist. It is all about point of view created by culture. That is all that separates one human being from another and that is what war is all about. One point of view trying to overwhelm another point of view. It’s crazy from the get-go.

JoeK 259pm – “crazy from the get-go”?? Really? Since in war, it only takes one to tango – was it crazy to resist the Ottomans in 1683 Vienna, Nazi Germany in WW2, Tojo’s Japan in WW2, Stalin et al during the Cold War, Caliphate-bound ragheads today, …? Admittedly, I am speaking as a child, student, and defender of western civilization. And there is no enemy I respect more than those willing to sacrifice themselves so that others may practice their beliefs unhindered.
While all wars do not resolve and may lead to other wars, history does demonstrate that the course of human events has always depended on the best swords and people ready to wield them. In short, wars do settle things, else no one would spend treasure to arm and fight.
So from the point of view of my beloved culture I resist those who seek to destroy it. I reserve the right to judge Islam from a distinctly parochial perch, as they do me. I believe that humanity would be (and has been) better off practicing the tenets of my culture, than those of Islam; they believe the obverse. And therefore we fight while pundits with neither commitment to nor understanding of either withdraw to the heights, look down on us, and cluck their tongues.
However, there is a difference. I and mine will fight to enable and protect your clucking tongues, while the ragheads would cut them out. You are fortunate indeed.

    — what a crock of shit George.. get your panties out of a bundle. The worst form of racism is super patriotism.. just look at what the Nazis did for proof. Ultra-patriotism is what allows atrocities to occur.. my country right or wrong is not the answer. But I digress… My point, that your lenses filtered out due to your patriotic enthusiasm to condemn anyone remotely associated with progressive thinking and thereby defending your vision of America, is that war is atrocious no matter what the reason and historically seem to be more clashes of culture than anything else. One group declares another group the enemy and away we go. Nowhere in my statement did I say that war was always unnecessary, although in a truly civilized world it would not be (humanity, as a whole, isn’t quite there yet). The notion that progressive thinking people would let evil doers go unpunished while the righteous defenders of freedom, such as yourself, would be the only ones to act, as you insinuate, is pure crap, heaped and steaming.
