Reports from Sydney (here) are the latest addition to a new dimension of threats from the world of Islam.  We have seen in Canada, the UK, the US, and now Australia how self-radicalized Muslims are emerging from the commonly viewed ‘moderate Islamic communities’ to plan and commit acts of jihadic terror in their adopted countries.  These terrorists have no formal relationship to established jihadist organizations that are publicly sworn to the destruction of our civilization, and its replacement with a most severe form of global Islam.

This class of lone wolf Muslim terrorist is always the hardest to detect and stop, especially in liberal societies of the west where today there is present an almost insane imperative to deny history and current evidence.  The delivered public wisdom is that the largely silent Muslim communities, already established in such host countries, share our horror and condemnation of the growing litany of ongoing terror that Islamists have spread to multiple continents worldwide.  Unfortunately, that is not the case.

One of the leading and more constructive voices in the west who warns us about the real mindset of Islam is Dr Tawfik Hamid, himself a former jihadist.  He has written and spoken extensively in the west’s leading media outlets such the WSJ and the NYT.  Years ago Dr Hamid started warning us about Islam and the dangerous politicized use of ‘Islamophobia’ (e.g. here).  Besides his own experience with radicalized Islam and its broadly accepted geo-strategic objectives, Hamid has brought forth evidence from Islam itself citing numerous surveys of Muslim attitudes (e.g. from Pew Research) both in the west and from ‘the Arab street’.

Hamid, along with other tolerant Muslim intellectuals, continue to paint a realistic picture of Islam’s relationship with the west.  An accessible compendium of such commentaries that seeks to inform us is available from ‘A symposium: What is Moderate Islam?’

I bring these reports to your attention not only in connection with the newly emerging ‘Islamist threat vector’, but also to remind some readers who have been critical of RR’s interpretation of what has really been going on between Islam and the west during the recent decades.  We are closer than ever to identifying the real geo-strategic threat to the west from radicalizing Islam (see also Kissinger’s World Order) without which we have been flailing ineffectively in what we mistakenly call our “war against terror”.  I believe we can begin winning again only after we realize the true nature of the conflict in which we are engaged.

[30dec14 update]  And one of the west’s greatest statesmen, historians, and wartime leaders Sir Winston Churchill penned and delivered these words in an 1899 history book when he was already a decorated veteran and journalist.  His prophetic insights about Islam (then Mohammedanism) – "No stronger retrograde force exists in the world" – echo stronger than ever across the intervening century.  (H/T to correspondent)

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy.  The effects are apparent in many countries, improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.

A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement, the next of its dignity and sanctity.  The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.  Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it.

No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.

(Churchill W., The River War (First Edition,Vol II, pgs 248-250), London)

What I find fascinating about the Emery boys and their condemnation of America is this. They do not acknowledge the murderous rampage that in 50 years got Islam most pf the countries in the Middle East and North Africa. They murdered millions back when a million was a big number. Then those Islamic fellows enslaved the other half of their population, the women, and no history lessons from the “boys”. Before the Islamic hegemony there was a series of conquests and empires tarting in 3500 BC. America has not taken a colonial position as all the other countries of the planet have. Hell, Argentina had a war with Chile for land. So, I have concluded these boys Emery do not have enough knowledge of the planet’s and its people history. They are strictly myopic and somehow have deluded themselves that America is “bad”.

And the war monger from a Muslim nation could point to these things Walt. Can you see why the separation of church in state is so important. Walt you and the average working class Muhammad in a Muslim nation want virtually the same things. You’re being used by those who sit in power.

    Todd,
You have that backwards big guy. It is you that dislikes America but loves American Federal Government. I love the people and what the American values we are taught and preach about. I strongly oppose and dislike our federal government and those who control it, which is not the average working class stiff. I oppose the special interests that shape most of the policies that our corrupt politicians and government agencies pursue. The American people sure as hell don’t support a majority of what congress does, for 40 years the average approval rating is less than 30-35%, since 2000 that average has to be in the low 20’s. So what does that tell us?
Try looking at the policies you support that I object to. You support big authoritarian government: NSA Spying, Torture, Preemptive Invasions, Drone Warfare, Occupations, Gitmo, Suspending Due Process, War On Drugs, Government Controlling a Woman’s Reproduction, Workers to Organize/ Collective Bargain/ Strike, Government Denying Same Sex Marriage. All of these things uses Big Government to suppress or oppress people.
On the other hand Government that helps people you oppose: Social Security, Medicare, Welfare, Unemployment Insurance, Food Stamps, Pell Grants.

    Walt,
You don’t believe we are a Christian nation? If we were officially a Christian nation then I guarantee you other religions would be suppressed or oppressed. Just look at the same sex marriage issue. People use religion as their argument all the time. What homosexuals really want is equality within the law but religious organizations oppose this legal policy. Churches can say “No” to same sex marriage and not perform ceremonies all they want but to enter into the legal realm is forcing their ideology unto others is just flat out wrong.
I am appalled at the governments in many of these Muslim nations. Just as I am appalled at our own federal government for many of their policies. Our policies should be promoting women empowerment not death and destruction from above with bombing campaigns, threat of sanctions that starve the poor, and securing private industry contracts for extracting resources. Here is the deal, I don’t live in those nations I was born in the United States, so I focus my on own country and governmental policies.
A passage from Thomas Jefferson to Benjamin Rush 1800, you might recognize the quote from the Jefferson Memorial. The same quote I have had many Christians claim to me this is proof Jefferson was a Christian and our nation was built of Christian doctrine. They have obviously never seen the entire quote in context otherwise they would use it as an example.
“I promised you a letter on Christianity, which I have not forgotten. On the contrary, it is because I have reflected on it, that I find much more time necessary for it than I can at present dispose of. I have a view of the subject which ought to displease neither the rational Christian nor Deists, and would reconcile many to a character they have too hastily rejected. I do not know that it would reconcile the genus irritabile vatum who are all in arms against me. Their hostility is on too interesting ground to be softened. The delusion into which the X. Y. Z. plot shewed it possible to push the people; the successful experiment made under the prevalence of that delusion on the clause of the constitution, which, while it secured the freedom of the press, covered also the freedom of religion, had given to the clergy a very favorite hope of obtaining an establishment of a particular form of Christianity thro’ the U. S.; and as every sect believes its own form the true one, every one perhaps hoped for his own, but especially the Episcopalians & Congregationalists. The returning good sense of our country threatens abortion to their hopes, & they believe that any portion of power confided to me, will be exerted in opposition to their schemes. And they believe rightly; for I have sworn upon the altar of god, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man. But this is all they have to fear from me: & enough too in their opinion, & this is the cause of their printing lying pamphlets against me, forging conversations for me with Mazzei, Bishop Madison, &c., which are absolute falsehoods without a circumstance of truth to rest on; falsehoods, too, of which I acquit Mazzei & Bishop Madison, for they are men of truth.”

“Onward Christian soldiers, marching off to war
With the cross of Jesus going on before
Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng
Blend with ours your voices in a triumph song

PaulE 247pm – I think in your enthusiasm to condemn Christianity as an equally bloodthirsty religion to Islam, you blew it again. I did not sing the lyrics you post, nor have I ever heard them sung by Christians. The correct lyrics are –
“Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
with the cross of Jesus going on before.
    Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;
forward into battle see his banners go!”
The rest are here – http://www.hymnsite.com/lyrics/umh575.sht
The referenced ‘battle’ is for men’s souls in the fight of good against evil. Secular humanists, especially of the progressive kind, will do everything to convince people otherwise.

Abu Anas Al-Libi is suspected of mercilessly gunning down the women, most of whom were Yazidi, because they refused to enter into sham temporary marriages with Islamic State fighters simply to have sex in what the terrorists believe to be a Koranic loophole.
“Abu Anas Al-Libi killed more than 150 women and girls, some of whom were pregnant after refusing to accept Jihad marriage,” the Iraqi Ministry of Human Rights said in a statement.

Paul Emery has identified his religious belief as Druid. I think these people were pagans and a very bloodthirsty group weren’t they Paul? The Roman conquered them I think. Anyway, what are the writings of these Druids? Where do you practice your religion? My recollection is they used human sacrifice (like the Mayans) to speak t their god. Inquiring minds want to know.

A Christian is a person who acts in a manner following Christ. Anyone can call themselves a Christian, but if they are brutal or oppress others then God will not accept them. There are many times in this nation when people did act in the name of Christ but used His name in vain and to cover their own sin. Christ is not responsible for their acts. He in fact warns us of this type of person.
Please give one example from the Bible where Christ promotes unprovoked violence.

Paul Emery, I went to Wiki and you are incorrect about “burning”. Here is an outake from the wiki.
“Greek and Roman writers frequently made reference to the druids as practitioners of human sacrifice, a trait they themselves reviled, believing it to be barbaric.[26] Such reports of druidic human sacrifice are found in the works of Lucan, Julius Caesar, Suetonius and Cicero.[27] Caesar claimed that the sacrifice was primarily of criminals, but at times innocents would also be used, and that they would be burned alive in a large wooden effigy, now often known as a wicker man. A differing account came from the 10th-century Commenta Bernensia, which claimed that sacrifices to the deities Teutates, Esus and Taranis were by drowning, hanging and burning, respectively (see threefold death).”
So congrats. It appear you are a follower of a cult that uses human sacrifice. Interesting.

I assume you are talking about war. I will defer to Cato scholar Doug Bandou on that one. He writes:
“War should be a true last resort, not just another policy option for frustrated social engineers and impatient internationalists.”
Was the war in Iraq, for example a war of last resort?
Since WWll We have fought in the streets of dozens of sovereign nations. How many of them match that criteria? Also there should be a declaration of war, as required in our Constitution, before we strap on our six guns and invade sovereign nations. Also read “Why we fight” by Ron Paul for another view of the matter.
“The mess we face in the Middle East and Afghanistan, and the threat of terrorism within our own borders, are not a result of the policies of this administration alone. Problems have been building for many years, and have only gotten much worse with our most recent policy of forcibly imposing regime change in Iraq. We must recognize that the stalemate in Korea, the loss in Vietnam, and the quagmire in Iraq and Afghanistan all result from the same flawed foreign policy of interventionism that our government has pursued for over 100 years. It would be overly simplistic to say the current administration alone is responsible for the mess in Iraq.”
