Government does best to grow the economy when government does least to grow the economy.

The election is shaping up to be a testimony to national polarization like we haven’t seen since Civil War days.  Some interesting points to consider –

1. Voter ID debacle that continues to be the main dog whistle to the ignorant Democrat constituencies.  There is not one shred of evidence that requiring voters to present their readily obtained bona fides has diminished minority voting – in fact, the evidence points exactly in the other direction.  Here’s the acid test.  If there existed ONE SHRED OF EVIDENCE (emphasis mine) that what the progressives maintain is true, then they would immediately trot out the individuals who were so denied.  But they cannot because 1) they don’t exist, and 2) if they tried to fabricate such occurrences, then the conservative press would take them to the cleaners for being doubly crooked – first telling the lie, and then conspiring to produce shills to abet the lie.

2. Harry Reid’s PAC is one of the biggest in the land, matching Republicans on every front.  This is the man who has single-handedly put a hold on over 350 House passed bills so that Democrats in the Senate would not have to vote on them and declare their true colors as the true obstructionists.  All the while the Left led by Obama and lickspittled by the lamestream keep screaming that it is the Republicans who are keeping Congress in gridlock.

3. Using the manufactured gridlock argument we will now see Obama put to use, during the lame duck session, the tens of millions of ‘don’t worry about ever being deported’ cards that he has had printed up.  If that is not a scumbag tactic, then why is he keeping that a pre-election secret from his reading-disabled constituents.

4. Locally we lost our second ‘No on S’ election sign from the street – the third one has replaced it.  These signs have been disappearing by droves all over the county.  A neighbor saw members of the Measure S scumbag patrol pull into his driveway to take away his sign.  They saw him and vamoosed.  Their description matches what you would think that imported seasonal MJ workers would look like – not people you would invite to dinner.  But these criminal antics sure confirm what Measure S is all about.

5. As Obama has amply demonstrated, the nation’s dormant Islamists know which side their global goals are buttered on in America.  David Rusin of PJ Media reports on what Islamist Watch has discovered (here).  The followers of Allah have contributed twelve times as much money to Democrats as to other candidates in this election.  Money talks, bullshit walks.  (H/T to reader)

6. (astute readers are welcome to contribute more pre-election shenanigans)

All of these points are documented and documentable.  We hope that our Left leaners counter these points with equivalent credentials.

[4nov14 update]  Well, today is election day, and you see all kinds of ‘Please Vote!’ exhortations on signs, in the media, including the blogs.  They all seem to be unconditional invitations for citizens (and some to non-citizens) to get off their couches and into voting booths, regardless of what they know about the election – candidates and issues – fogging a mirror qualifies you.  As you might expect, that is not the message of RR.  Here we ask you to stay the hell out of the voting booth if you have not informed yourself about who the candidates are and what they stand for, and/or how they have voted on things that are important to you.  The same goes for the issues.  Don’t be a soundbite voter – 1) inform yourself, 2) then vote.  Otherwise stay home, have a glass of your favorite adult beverage, and just watch the returns or Brady Bunch reruns or whatever.  But then, you knew that.

While the left can not come up with examples of voter intimidation and denial, here is some proof of voter fraud in action:
Undercover video shows North Carolina poll workers offering ballots to ineligible impostor – TWENTY TIMES – putting voter ID battle on the front burner
Conservative guerrilla filmmaker James O’Keefe pretended to be a series of North Carolinians who hadn’t voted in years
In precinct after precinct, election officials offered him ballots without confirming his identity
Only one polling place turned him away without an ID, but officials there were breaking the rules in order to do it

We will find out by tomorrow night if America is and remains a right of center nation. Not normally a poll watcher, I have followed the polls for months without seeing trends form. The Carter campaign called what I was looking for as The Big Mo. Once Big Mo gets traction, it forms into a juggernaut with no turning back. Pardon me, Big Mo is political talk for momentum. Momentum as we see in a sporting event or election. Well, last Thursday I finally saw evidence of Big Mo, Waited til the last few days to stop months of back and forth and finally movement that is widespread and trending in one direction. That direction is right of center. Many many close races which I interpret as not a landslide in stomping the other guy, just enough to win the seat.
We must remember that every single Congressperson is on the ballot. Yes, the Senate’s 36 races takes the spotlight and dully so, but let’s see if Walt’s once far fetched prediction of the Republicans capturing the Senate was just wishful thinking. Big Mo is moving in the direction to make Walt a happy man. I think the Right will pick up more seats in Congress, which would mean most districts than not are right of center.
With all this voter hanky panky and close races, expect legions of lawyers descending upon the election weary populace

The election is shaping up to be a testimony to national polarization like we haven’t seen since Civil War days.–
Why do you suppose this is? Why is our nation so divided when most people don’t really care about politics? I once had a stack of books that were politically oriented best sellers that I took to a used book store to donate. Even though some of the books were brand new (duplicates from gifts, etc.), the store owner wouldn’t take them. He told me people just aren’t interested in politics and don’t read political oriented books. Who benefits from a polarized nation locked in a political standoff that cripples the governments ability to function? How did this come to pass? What processes and institutions were involved in creating this chasm?

I would direct JoeK and others to the breakout of the Revolutionary War if you desire to see what a true divided populace is all about. I think on;y about 25% of the people were involved and half on each side. That is just life. Even in a family there is a power structure. I learned you can’t get anything done unless you have the votes and that is usually of like minded and like political party.

Walt, one regulator of both Reid and Obama may become one or two runoff elections that could be held as late as early January. A massive amnesty would make those harder to win, as would Senate rules “nuclear options” with the knowledge the GOP Senate Majority leader would relish having the gloves off come January, as turnabout can be fair play.

re Joe the K’s post on ‘polarization’. It’s called the great divide. Nobody did it to us, we done it all on our very own. The founders of our nation knew all too well what can happen to ruin a republic.
“Who benefits from a polarized nation locked in a political standoff that cripples the governments ability to function?”
That’s a heavily loaded rhetorical question. What functions are you talking about?
Making sure our Constitutional rights are upheld? Handing out freebies to buy votes? Spying on us? Collecting taxes?
I noticed during the so-called govt shutdowns that the IRS seemed to ‘function’ just fine.
The bottom line is that which Joe the K and the lefties want from govt is largely not what I and the conservatives want from govt.
Hence, we have division and polarization. The idea that ‘everyone really wants the same things in life’ is baloney peddled by the left. Since lefties are incapable of truly understanding the conservative view, they actually imagine their dream of utopia is universal. I understand both sides well and they are just not compatible.

If anyone has been looking through the news reports, LIB dirty tricks are at an all time high. JoeK wouldn’t know that, since he refuses to even read about them.
Even in Colorado, Repub poll watchers have been chased out, and a LIB judge through out their emergency writ.
In other places the pre rigged voting machines continue to give the vote to a Dem, no matter which box is checked.

Dr. Rebane has observed that liberal are not very good at math, but they can always pull another 40,000 pre-marked ballots out of their hip pockets and ask “is that enough, need some more?”

Regarding signs. When I ran in 1988 we caught a off duty CHP fellow swiping my signs. He was spotted and a license plate was turn in. I visited his home on Banner Mountain and lo and behold he was burning them in a pile in his front yard. I turned his fascist sorry ass in to his superiors who actually threatened me for doing so. I told them hey, do what you have to do you lying sack of cat sh** but when you are on the front page of the nations papers, I will be laughing my ass off. They left me alone. PatriciaS 252pm – No slack for anyone who messes with elections, and that includes anyone taking down ‘Yes on S’ signs. To me and mine, electioneering paraphernalia are sacrosanct, and that is especially true of lawn signs which represent the views of the grassroots voter who can do little else to promote what he supports. I just reported our experience and what our neighbors saw. And most certainly there is no doubt that ‘Yes on S’ signs are out in the streets at least 10:1 over ‘No on S’. So one set of scumbags seems to be much more organized than another.

Walt, in this county absentee voters make up a lot of the electorate, if not total votes cast. If, say, 20% of the registered voters cast absentee/ mail in ballots, that might translate to 25-27% of the total votes cast because not all registered voters actually vote.
I received my ballot by mail and did not even open it until last night. The enclosed info stated that because I live in a precinct with less that 250 registered voters, I don’t have a polling place. Mail it back or drop off my ballot in the enclosed yellow envelop at any polling place. So I drove to one of the closest polling place (decisions, decisions…..the firehouse or the church across the street). I saw a guy walk into the firehouse carrying the yellow envelop like mine. I walked in and at door, a nice nice friendly poll worker took my envelop and put in the ballot box. Never made it 2 feet inside. Then, I saw another car pull in with a man carrying his yellow mail n ballot. Then another guy driving in with his yellow mail in vote. Easy as pie. Does anybody actually fill out a ballot anymore at a polling place?
This was the first election in a blue moon I planned on skipping until this morning. Why did I vote and not skip this time around? Civic duty? nope. The realization that so much blood was shed by millions and my buddies to ensure the still standing have the right to vote? Nope. It was simply a tiny thing: That billboard the Yes on S put up pissed me off. I even considered voting yes, but when one side spread the Big Lie that a No on S vote meant prohibition of legal cultivation of medicinal mj (hey, it’s a State Law and a county ordinance could not change that)….. Well, Patty, you spread a big lie and I voted today just to tell you dishonestly should not be rewarded. How stupid to you think the voters are?????
If you and your people would have remained unemotional and not got hysterical and spread grossly unbelievable rumors (aka, the billboard) you might have got my vote.
This is one time in my life I indeed picked up the old equalizer, aimed, and shot at the messenger.

Russ, as far as I understand it, because my ballot was dropped off at a precinct instead of the Rood Center, my yellow envelop will be part of the canvassing process that starts Thursday, a 21 day process. I will cut them some slack because my signature needs to be verified twice. I can only surmise that ballots like mine with no polling place and must be mailed (or dropped off at any polling place before 8pm) needs to be verified. No worries from me cause I received the ballot and all that sample ballot junk many days ago and let it collect dust. My ballot is not considered an absentee ballot, BTW.
Learned something. If I wanted to go to any polling place AND cast a ballot the old fashioned way instead of dropping the mail in ballot in the box, then my ballot would be under the category of Provisional status, which also would be part of the canvassing process. See what happens when I move out to the boondocks down by the River in my van. Be it ever so humble, there is no place like home. :). Least I saved on the cost of postage.

Scott, yes indeed, that was the best quote I have heard from soon to be Senate Minority Leader Harry Palms Reid in awhile. He just does not get it. The American people said loudly that we tried it your way, now get out of the way.
Working together with “Mr Block All Bills” so the Senate Dems would not have to vote on any non-lib legislation? No, that ain’t working together. Reid’s strategy backfired. The Dems could not even say they voted for this or that, or voted against this or that. The Senate Dems where saddled with the record of voting with Obama 99% because of the direct result of Uncle Harry’s obstructionist strategy. He screwed his own party as we all know it was Obama’s policies that were on the ballot. Reid gave the Progressives in the Senate and even the 2 moderate Dems no chance to distance themselves from an angry right of center populace. Dirty Harry saddled them with an unpopular yet clean articulate President.
This is change I finally might even believe in. Gives me a wee bit of hope as well. Not much, but a wee bit. Timing could not have been better. The Justice Department released 64,000 pages of Fast and Furious docs as soon as tea leaves could be read.

What happened in the 2014 election was a trend that will not end well for the people of the United States of America. Low voter turnout due to disenfranchisement and disillusionment of the the Democratic and Republican Parties. Unfortunately for us all this means a government controlled more and more by large transnational corporations. The highest “Dark Money” mid term election ever in US history. We have to get public funding campaigns for public offices otherwise it will be almost impossible to reverse the trend, which you guys seem to be celebrating.
November 4, 2014 the around 20% of the eligible electorate decided we needed more War, more power to the Bankers, more suppression of Civil Liberties, more Trade policies that favor industry over country, more Militarization of police, less oversight on industry, and the biggest threat to mankind a denial of climate change and the challenges to come in the next century to name a few things.
So go celebrate now but when you are downing your last scotch for the night think about what type of country/ planet we are leaving our kids, grandchildren, and their grandchildren.
Please think of these words and then your own actions.
    Excerpt from Iroquois Constitution
“The thickness of your skin shall be seven spans — which is to say that you shall be proof against anger, offensive actions and criticism. Your heart shall be filled with peace and good will and your mind filled with a yearning for the welfare of the people of the Confederacy. With endless patience you shall carry out your duty and your firmness shall be tempered with tenderness for your people. Neither anger nor fury shall find lodgement in your mind and all your words and actions shall be marked with calm deliberation. In all of your deliberations in the Confederate Council, in your efforts at law making, in all your official acts, self interest shall be cast into oblivion. Cast not over your shoulder behind you the warnings of the nephews and nieces should they chide you for any error or wrong you may do, but return to the way of the Great Law which is just and right. Look and listen for the welfare of the whole people and have always in view not only the present but also the coming generations, even those whose faces are yet beneath the surface of the ground — the unborn of the future Nation.”

    I hadn’t seen this…..
Congressman elect Mia Love celebrated her surprise victory in Idaho as the first black Republican woman to be elected to the House of Representatives.
I understand all those words…just not arranged in a sentence like that…..time for another scotch!

    Barry,
Very good night for Republicans but I would argue not a very good night for conservatives. The Republican Party is not conservative they are corporatist, which equals fascistic policies. Pro Military Empire, Pro Big Business, Anti Gender equality, Anti Equality in general, Anti Labor, Pro Militarization of Police, Pro War On Drugs, Pro Free Trade Agreements, Anti Science …
These are all things that are the status quo, the two headed coin has flipped for sure but the further we go down this two party tyranny the worse for the nation and the world along with the harder it will be to reverse in the future.

Low voter turnout due to disenfranchisement and disillusionment of the the Democratic and Republican Parties
Uhhh,,, Ben,, MOST Repubs kept their seats, and the DEMS got their collective butts handed to them. It a sound rejection of (your) Socialist ideals. Everywhere where big name Dems stumped for the LIB, the race was lost.. Soundly.
BTW Ben, LIB loses are not over yet. More heads are set to role.
The people of the Republic has borrowed the guillotine, and has taken a short pause to resharpen the blade. It got dull from all the use last night. One more Mellon to to hack off in Alaska, then off to Louisiana.

Ben Emery is to me what is truly wrong with American politics. A loser, a whiner, a blame the whole problem on some amorphous mass of goo. My goodness, there is no gun to the head of the American voter to force them to stay home. They all have free will yet the apologists like Ben Emery give them a pass on their prized and unique chance to have an impact. My goodness Ben Emery, why do you do that? All the lazy asses that don’t vote are to blame. The world belongs to those that show up. I learned that when I got involved in my first campaign. No excuses Ben Emery. We are sick of you and your excuses for those lazy ass people that did not show up. So go cry about the KOCH Brothers to DailyKops. You are a sad sack whiner.

I guess Ben agreed with Hillary Clinton.. ” Don’t let anyone tell you Corp. and “big” businesses create jobs”.
Ben forgets that “military empire” is what keeps us free.( They kill the bad guys when allowed to.)
Equality?,, Really??? It the LIBS that keep that BS as a crutch, yet LIBS are the ones pushing special treatment. ( some are more equal than others)
Hell! “O” is the Pres. by affirmative action. Elected only for the color of his skin.. NOT his ability to do the job. LIBS want higher pay for those who refuse to better themselves.
$50 grand a year for career burger flippers.
Debt forgiveness for career collage students for degrees that won’t get them a paying job. And the list can go on.

Ben: I know that you likely won’t agree with this, but Republicans are all for equality. The difference is how one views equality. Republicans view equality as “equal opportunity” as opposed to “equal results.” Personally, I want everyone regardless of race and gender to have equal opportunity to achieve. As I tell my children, with freedom comes responsibility. Our system of government and our economy are set up in a way that with freedom (equality in this instance) folks are free to achieve their dreams, but at the same time, they are responsible for the outcome. Further, many Republicans are questioning the uses of our military overseas and questioning the illegality of certain drugs and questioning the militarization of the police. There are certainly places for agreement by both sides. The question remains whether both sides will seek areas of agreement or continue to perpetuate gridlock in an effort to win elections. Your concerns are quite valid, and I think that cooperation on the agreements will go a long way of improving the image of DC.
