More news on Supervisor TerryL indicates that all should hold back consuming and contributing to the rumor mill. We hear from various sources (YubaNet, Denver Post, etc) that the number of alleged illicit browsing visits exceeded 6,750 in one week. That sure sounds like some planted malware in operation on the supervisor’s computer. At the least, this does appear that not all those visits could have been his. Let’s continue to keep the cool.

This is a very good reason to ditch Windows, convert to Linux or buy a Mac. it is not impossible to infect a Unix based computer, but it is much harder with the built in security. Unix security was built in, not an add on feature.

Not at all, most of those hits are multiple entries for elements on the same page. One click, lots of action in the background to make the page display as intended.
Russ, Linux is great but it isn’t magic. If it had (in aggregate) a 90% market share, there’d be more crooks writing malware targeting it.LikeLike
-
Gregory 1241pm – Such multiple hits are always ‘filtered out’ from the prime hit to the intended URL. That has been done for over fifteen years now; no advertiser would accept such secondary ‘hits’ in the eyeball count that determines what he pays from the rate card. Purposefully adding the responses of the secondary URLs needed to compose the remainder of the target page is simply fraud, and the service counting such hits would be culpable should the advertiser sue.

George, I think the CyFin report (the County monitoring employee use of the network) has no relationship to page hit settlements on the net.

I’m afraid I’m the person who attracted the skunk to the most recent sandbox, all because of a mistake. Granted, the mistake was a minor one, but we all know that no mistake is too small to be blown out of proportion in Jeffy land.
I hereby stand corrected. Monday, not Tuesday, was the day YubaNet limped into the Lamphier mess with a three sentence “story” confirming what The Union had already reported.
I hope Jeffy didn’t stay up all night waiting for this. I tend to abandon my computer by 5 p.m. and not look at it again until after 8 the next day. While I was enjoying the Giants’ World Series victory and the Warriors’ beat down of the Kings, Jeffy was apparently monitoring Ruminations waiting for me to admit my grievous error. The man needs counseling.
His so-called collaboration with The Bee is just another example of how far newspapers have fallen in the last decade. When we first subscribed to The Bee in 2000, the paper had a full-time reporter in Auburn who cover major stories in western Nevada County.
The Bee has since pulled in its horns, abandoning news coverage of Nevada County and other areas at the periphery of its main circulation area. Now its coverage of this area consists of soft news–wine, food, art shows–from a former journalist who makes his money writing puff pieces about advertisers in his magazine.
And The Bee has the brass to charge more for a subscription than it did in 2000!LikeLike
-
The Bee has all but ended comments as well. ” invitation only”.. Is Jeffy one of the ten or so invitees?
Hell.. I don’t even bother with the Bee anymore.LikeLike
-
George,
No I didn’t stay up all night. I was just reminded of your incompetence. Besides getting the day wrong, you can’t count. This article is more than “three sentences.” http://yubanet.com/regional/Search-warrant-executed-on-Friday-at-Lamphier-residence.php#.VFK-blboZz8

I don’t have any trouble counting, but YubaNet seems to have a problem when it comes to displaying the news.
When you click on “Happening Now–October 2014” under Regional on the home page you come up with a three sentence story on Oct. 27 regarding Lamphier. There’s no indication that a longer story is lurking elsewhere. For that, you have to click on the Regional tab at the top of the page.
I prefer home pages where I don’t have to hunt for the news.LikeLike
-
George,
You are dumber than I thought.
Click on the link of this story dated MONDAY (not Tuesday) Oct 27, 2014 – 6:25:24 PM and count the sentences. There are more than “three sentences.” You have gotten this wrong twice now. Does anybody edit your column? LOL.

Funny that lefty jeffy has to come Dr. R’s site to be able to have people actually see his liberal laments! 🙂 Now we will have lefty jeffy puff up and tell us how he is a regional media powerhouse. The thing is the powerhouse is generating AAA battery power levels. The after hours and holiday surfing pattern noted by Yuba Net makes sense if someone who has personal access to the building wanted to do something online with no one being able to observe. Its still unclear if Mr. Lamphier has this kind of affliction but individuals with uncontrollable compulsions often end up crashing and burning while in a maniac compulsion state. The circumstances never make sense to normal people, think former congressmen Weiner who has recently been caught indulging his compulsion again. We will never understand the whys of these things. Very sad if true about the supervisor.

You are arguing about with a guy who was fired from what he considers the lowest rung in his profession (a rural community newpaper) and who incessantly screams at 10 white guys on blogs in a futile attempt to convince you of his relevance. Barry,
I was not “fired” from The Union. In fact the $40,000 severance I was offered when my job was eliminated in a bad economy is probably a lot of money in your little rural law/will writing business. I turned down the severance, so I could write freely about my experience at The Union, without any legal strings attached. It was worth it and extremely liberating.
As for your own resume, it shows a lot of short stints at small legal firms then a retreat to self employment. I think we are self employed for different reasons.LikeLike

I read TL’s statement. If you read it carefully, he is basically admitting the the Sheriff’s office is going to have all of the evidence that they need to show that child porn was on his computer(s). He is saying that he lacked the criminal intent to commit the crime, hence the word “proactively.” TL just dared the Sheriff and DA to charge him and prove their case. This affair is going to be very interesting.

Watching the story concerning T Lamphier unfold is sad. I don’t know the man and don’t usually like his politics, but I had been honestly hoping this was a set up or a mistake. According to what I read in YubaNet, the logs show a rather particular time line for a lot of the computer activity in question. I would think the county offices have security camera footage of those dates and times that will aid in solving this issue.
Having written all of that, I just read his official response.
Maybe his lawyer dictated it or who knows? I can tell you it wouldn’t be my response.
My main take-away is that at no point is there any denial that he knowingly viewed child pornography. It all seems to be a lot of carefully worded legaleeze. Not a good sign.LikeLike

Ralph Nader latest commentary
Corporate Destruction of Free Markets Rules Us
https://blog.nader.org/2014/10/30/corporate-destruction-of-free-markets-rules-us/
opening paragraph
The ruling dogma of our political economy is corporatism. Corporatism claims to draw legitimacy from the free market theory that all vendors who do not meet market demands will go under. Corporatism uses this illusion to exert power over all aspects of our political economy…LikeLike
-
Corporations don’t make the rules and take our money at gunpoint – the govt does.
I heard Mr Nader’s childish and idiot rant on KVMR the other day. He was talking in circles. All about how just 1% of the people can change things but the corps control us. He was upset at folks worrying about civil rights when they should worry about the environment. He couldn’t talk his way out of a paper bag. Pathetic.LikeLike

BenE 806pm – Do you see all corporations as equally evil? Or do you have some kind of structure in the population of corporations as private businesses – e.g. above a certain size they become evil? I’m not trying to sandbag you Ben, for I am on record for my opposition to big corporations that need the government gun to survive, and therefore promote and sustain an incestuous relationship with the state to get legislative and regulatory protections in exchange for funding the correct politicians. If there are boundaries for socially legitimate private businesses, where do you draw them?

Really? Researched my business….how interesting. I find this especially entertaining coming from a man who routinely writes; “See everybody, the Hard Right wouldn’t have a thing to write about if my blog didn’t exist”. Gee jeffy….obsess much?
Why don’t you just reveal to the assembly where I work!
You see John….this is how wrapped around the axle our little jeffy gets when his feelings are hurt. It’s why he will whine and wheedle for you to reveal your whole name…..so he can “name and shame”….he can’t deal with anonymity! If you are a local and he finds out who you are, the gossip campaign will begin…if you don’t live in the area he’ll repeat endlessly that “you don’t even live in our community”™ in a feeble attempt to disqualify your opinion.
jeffy is right about one thing…he is so petty because the stakes are so small.LikeLike

Wouldn’t it be fairly easy to have the whereabouts known during the minutes a person accessed his/her computer?
Does the county require a pass word for a supervisor to log into his account?
Does anyone else have access to hi account who has access to his office?
Can supervisors work from their county office on a “vacation” day, if they wish?
Why would a person, who is in the public eye, not have a highest safe guards on what his computer accesses?LikeLike
