[Apologies for my recent silence.  We were doing a little trailering with friends in the future State of Jefferson during the past week ;-)  When SoJ comes to pass, one of the first orders of business is to spread broadband far and wide.  And we can, of course, start that right here in Nevada County.  Did everyone see D'Souza's film 'America'?  Apparently every leftie in town went to see it, and then packed the movie's review page with horrible posts.  But, hey, at least it's good to see them put their money where their mouth isn't.]

    …and Bitchy Fatpants has returned…….
BTW, The Union also dutifully posted the press release, but didn’t have the journalistic ethics or integrity to point out that it stemmed from this blog’s FOI request, as shown by the letter. <a href="http://www.theunion.com/news/12383953-113/grand-jury-county-nevada“>http://www.theunion.com/news/12383953-113/grand-jury-county-nevada
Mmmmmm for a guy who claims to care so much about “results” and good government you seem awfully preoccupied with getting credit for writing a letter.
    ….and as always….LOL.

    The Purple Man writes:
The letter confirms my speculation (which I reported in comments) that Elaine Meckler, Tea Party co-founder Mark Meckler’s mom, and Gregory Marks, a longtime hard-right politico with the local GOP leadership, are Civil Grand Jury members. Dottie Ray Souter also has been active in local conservative politics.
I do not recognize any other names being political activists for the “left.”

We discussed the Purple Man’s letter at lunch. Ellen was on a Grand Jury for 20 months. She pointed out that it is not unusual for 100 people to volunteer for the GJ Duty, but only 19 are chosen by a random process. Maybe the reason there are no hard left on the GJ is they are not volunteering for duty on the GJ in large numbers. Could it be that Purple Man does not understand how the GJ selection process works? It is a volunteer organization, you have to show up before you can be considered for selection. I will bet that he has not ever volunteered for Grand Jury duty. He would have to rub elbows and work with with lots and lots conservative volunteers. The key to success is showing up, and conservative show up. Where are the lefties?

If only 3 of 19 Nevada County civil grand jury members are conservatives, they are probably short of the number you would expect from a random sampling of legal residents who don’t have a criminal record or other evidence of bad character or mental defect.
El Jefe’s (note that’s close to Jeff, Spanish for ‘the Chief’ and phonetically similar to “hefty”) increasingly shrill witch hunt for conservatives among his neighbors is getting creepy.

The last time I checked, Lake of the Pines was the most Republican precinct in Nevada County. LOP has plenty of law-and-order types who prefer a lot of laws so they can maintain order. Conservatives should practice what they preach.

    Yes fish, getting.
It was always ugly and partisan, but between his censorial demand for the Western Gateway Park to rein in “Tea Party” use of the facility (as often as once a month!) for get togethers, and now his rant over three people he recognizes as conservatives being on the Civil Grand Jury, El Hefty is getting both creepy and clearly illiberal.

re GeorgeB 200pm – As a shared attribute, LOP may also/instead be populated by those who like to live in a ‘just so’ neighborhood that they seek to maintain through explicit rules (since behavioral constraints imposed by a common culture no longer serve in 21st century America). But it doesn’t have to be a right/left appeal to understand their (presumably) thick rulebook. Folks of the Left, seeking to build ever more comprehensive collectives, have demonstrated how thick they can make the books containing rules to their own liking.
As long as all who move to LOP do so with full understanding of the CC&Rs and their application, then there should be no grousing that spills over the bounds of LOP. And yes, conservatives should indeed practice what they preach, joined, of course, by others of different stripes.

As a target of a liberal filled Grand Jury in my first term as a Supe I saw how the system was abused by partisans in those days. Of course they were just fishing and the members were out of the committee of the person I defeated. Since then the picking has changed. Maybe Pelline should traipse over to his friends office, the one he donated $500 to, and check the registrations of the members. He is as usual, making shit up so his credibility is moot anyway.
Boardman appears not to understand CCR’s of subdivisions. People move there for lots of reasons, one may be the “gated” aspect that keeps out riff-raff like me. My dad built houses there and it seemed people liked the golf course and the lake and the rules were an after thought. I suggest Boardman read the CCr’s and get back to the blog.
The Second District was the only one I won in 1998 in the Assessor’s race. Prop 8 was my platform and those people seemed to know what I was talking about. LOL! (that was for Pelline)

The grand jury reports are reviewed by County Counsel and the presiding judge and approved by a super-majority of the 19 member panel. So two people who are conservative on the Grand Jury is almost irrelevant. Simple partisan politics by the FUE…as usual.

I have to ask why he posted that he filed a Freedom Of Information Law Suit regarding the Grand Jury without a Case Number identified? His letter was a request under the CA Gov. codes. Am I the only one who finds his love of the Royal Purple odd for a leftist wanna be populist who brags about his high living? His recent whine about the Grand Jury re-appointments is a perfect jeffisim. So Judge Tom Anderson is now a hard right activist? He did the reappointments.

Brad, that is Pelline’s modus operandi and has been for some time. For example, he wrote what was, in essence, ad copy for an upcoming InConcert Sierra event, parroting false claims by the Harvard Glee Club they were the oldest collegiate choir in the USA. Jeff let a couple through while mocking me and blocking responses. I alerted InConcert Sierra of the false ad copy and they did not take the offending copy down from their website, clearly marked as being from Jeffy, but the piece in The Union a few weeks later was sanitized and did not contain any of the false claims so they got the message.

Off to the weather… how many know the summer weather in the Arctic Circle is the COLDEST since the Danish Meteorological Institute began determining average Arctic temperatures, starting in 1958? Since April, temps have been below average (often quite a bit below average) every day save a couple days a couple weeks ago. They have been plunging since that brief stab towards normal for the season:

I suspect the lawyer in the mix would disagree with Jeff’s characterization, which is probably irresponsible and libelous itself.
I was banned not because of any claimed libel by me. The defamatory speech in my case was directed against me by both Jeff and his attack poodle of the time, both of whom fabricated false and damaging statements, though, to be fair, the fellow from NSJ probably was and is sufficiently separated from reality to arguably be unable to know the difference.

    95%? You are reality-challenged, aren’t you, Jo?
This thread was lively without El Hefty for over half it’s length, and only went FUE-side up when Jeffie started his ranting about three (3!) Tea Party Types recognized on the Civil Grand Jury roster.
For the nation as a whole, 22% are TP. So if Nevada County was representative of the country, with a majority Dem identification, there would be 4 Tea Partiers on the Civil Grand Jury. Given the conservative bent of the area, and that we are in a way a Ground Zero for the TP, it might be a proper number of TP on that panel is closer to 8 or 10.
Only three? I suggest those of you who are TP and/or Jeffersons (and that is not me), send in your apps to the Civil Grand Jury, it looks like you are underrepresented.

JoeK (951am) has a point. For years the FUE’s blog has denigrated RR and its readers whenever it wanted to draw some attention to itself on substantive matters. And yes, I understand that FUE can’t maintain a reasonable and substantive debate on his blog, because, well, because his adherents mostly use blanks for ammunition, and that’s embarrassing. (see also Gregory’s 1036am) Better to just nip all that stuff in the bud, and just remount and spout from his ivory redoubt.
But I do think that the FUE has a clever tactic of coming here to inject some outrageous remark that then co-opts the ensuing discussion because he is such an easy and substantial target. Then it takes a while for the reverberation to die down. Nevertheless, the Sandbox or other relevant RR post is a proper venue for countering the hard Left claims posted on any other media outlet. I just wish that the animus directed at the FUE does not focus on or even emphasize the man’s ample girth – such offerings, no matter how pithy and clever, serve only to cloud over the commenter’s substantive rebuttal. But these are just my own humble opinions. Carry on.
