[Time for a fresh sandbox.  The inaugural sandbox appears to have been a success.  My own special interest for this one is to include a discussion of the Bergdahl case, specifically what impact readers believe it will have on future foreign policy in the mideast.  And fold into that discussion the impact of ISIS' gains in Iraq and its demands on how should the US react – specifically, should we abandon Iraq to devolve into it pre-churchillian ethnic regions of Shiite, Sunni, and Kurdish control that may give rise to new nation-states or absorption by Iraq's current neighbors.  Or whatever else comes to mind or piques interest. gjr]

The only military action the US should engage in right now would be a putsch. Seriously. Seize all govt data centers and server farms. Go through with a fine tooth comb extracting all data going back as far as you please. Turn it all over to the public. We can redact medical records. Put the current admin under house arrest and announce elections will be held on schedule.
Anybody that even starts to believe they really ‘lost’ Lerner’s emails is a certified idiot. You absolutely can not lose backed up data due to a ‘computer crash’. It was erased. They dug up Rose Mary Woods and had her do another oopsie! For those too young or stoned to know the story:

I also neglected to include an “auditor” position. Every new reg not only needs, “…inspectors that today have the right to go wherever they want to ‘do their duty’ for the good of society”. But every group of inspectors really should have an auditor who makes sure that they are fully in compliance with their programs regulatory requirements.

Scott: “The only military action the US should engage in right now would be a putsch.” I agree totally, except in one aspect. Remember the Daisy Cutters, Bunker Busters, and those great names of which I find endearing? Well, take some Daisy Cutters and some Down Wind Chili and bomb the living daylights out of the ragheads in Iraq, be they Sunni or Shite. Won’t do any good, but at least I can have some good entertainment watching clips while wolfing down pickles and sardines over kraut. Burp. That was a Sandbox burp, or belch if you prefer.
Perhaps we could have a drawing for the best new name of one of our new toys. Street Sweeper has already be taken by the South African Riot Police (semi auto shotgun, can fire slugs, buckshot, teargas, and an assortment of delightful treats in about 4 seconds).

Here is one of the fine gentlemen that Obama released from Gitmo. Another peace lubber following the Yellow Brick Road with a bluebird on his shoulder. He promised to be good for a year, but the Koran allows someone to deceive the enemy, aka, LIE. Strike that. The peace lubbing Koran encourages people to deceive the enemy. Must be some kind of moral relativism. There are no absolutes, right lefties?

To my knowledge Islam’s ‘dhimmitude’ is the only practice of fraud scripturally taught to its adherents by a religion in order to promote its domination of the world. Islam allows all things on earth as long as it result in a greater fraction of people among the survivors following the Prophet to Allah.

Perhaps our reluctant semi resident bomb thrower will enlighten us as to how we are all so selfish?
    Fish,
You are inflicted with the same illness as the rest of the neo fascist crew at rebanes, pure unadulterated selfishness.

I won’t deny this charge out of hand but I’m interested to know how Ben has reached the conclusion based on the general tenor of my (and the rest of your) posts over the last year. I’m not sure, other than a general rejection of his general political philosophy what he bases this on?
    Anyone want to weigh in?
(Gotta go do 1%er stuff…..me and my selfish rich buddies like to get together and mock the poor while performing auto maintenance on our high dollar rich dude vehicles…..in my case that most elite ride of all….the 2010 Toyota Corolla! Admit it….you’re all jealous!)

I am jealous!! I drive a 2000 Mitsubishi sedan, well, I was driving it until I let one of the girls take it to college and (hoping)she maybe come visit her old man now and then because of the great gas mileage. Another plan of mice and men has failed again.
The other is 1992 Toyota 4 runner I use to make those speedster punk gangsta wannabees slow down and get all annoyed. They certainly get animated while tailgating me.
But, my best vehicle is my 84 Ford short bed p/u with under 85k original on it. Bought it from an old blind man who was a pauper and, for some unknown reason, he too directed profanity my way. What a potty mouth. Like, what does a blind man need with a truck anyway. Haul around dark sunglasses? He used profanity right after I made the observation about hauling around dark sunglasses. But, money talks and canes help you walk. People are strange creatures I tell ya.
I be selfish and rich, rich, rich. There ought to be a law against owning 3 fine vehicles, one of which still has some shine to it. Like, how many vehicles does one need anyway? How many land yachts can one drive at one time? I b greedy, selfish, self centered, self seeking, and self absorbed. Guilty as charged your Honorable Discharge, Your Excellenceass, Your Most Assholiness. I am a worn Your Highnass.
Thus, Bro Ben is right again. 3 vehicles and no garage is the very definition of the rich being selfish. Ok, tonight I will send my left over refried beans and half eaten rice to the starving children in India. Along with half a candy bar with my tooth marks on it. Guess the dog will go hungry tonight but I FEEL I am making the world a better place.
Whew, I have been cleansed. Thank you Bro Ben for showing me the light and the road less traveled.

The problem in Iraq is difficult to solve and it is probably too late to do anything other than watch a formerly semi-modern country totally self destruct and descend into complete chaos. It is unfortunate for the Iraqi people that George Bush totally decimated their country and destroyed their society to advance his family’s oil portfolio. Sadam might have been an evil dictator, but what is going on there now is far worse. The larger question might be who was the more evil, Sadam or George and Dick.

Would “what is happening today” be happening if Obama has been serious about negotiating a Status of Forces agreement?. He did not even try according to retired Diplomats. If US forces were still in the country, the current government would have access to the US intelligence assets, plus they would have had an opportunity resist the replacement of the experienced Iraq Army leadership with political hacks. The troops lost confidence in their own leaders, who were not professionals, but political hacks of the President. We are seeing the results Obama’s political hacks, as the nation foreign policy collapses.
Only a person with a serious Bush Derangement Syndrome would claim that Bush went to war just for his own benefit. On the other hand Obama went to war in Libya for his own purposes to curry favor with the EU Elites, who were about to lose access to their cheap oil.

No worries Walt. By Obamas own figures, 9 million people have signed up for Medicaid….er..the Affordable Nocare about You Act. About 2.4-2.7 million were erroneously given subsidies of wrongly signed up (illegals, etc). So doing the math, the goof ups minus the 6 million who lost their insurance as a direct result of the Unafforable Care Act and had to get on Obamacare means we are back at square one.
All this hassel and tossing cancer patients off their local hospitals and doctors for what? 300 million folks going thru the wringer to insure 15 million does not seem proportionately fair. Plus, illegals still clog our hospitals.
Never heard of such foolishness as deductibles until Obamacare came out. Deductibles, whatz up with that?
Two people I know well (both female, both over 50) have been paying cash for health insurance for years. Usually they paid 200-2,000 clams a year out of pocket at the doc of their choice, including those expenses when they got really sick. One paid 4k for dental work one time only. When they found out that had to get Obamacare and have a 5-6 grand deductible, they said that is exactly like having no insurance. Paying cash as you go (with the deductibles). Both are good law abiding citizens and did not want any trouble with the IRS seizing their assets. Had to explain to the fine ladies that the IRS will only take their refunds, which they don’t get anyway cause they are self employed and file once a year cause they make so little and not required to file quarterly.
So, Obama, add two more to the rolls in two different states. They be on Medicaid now. They did not qualify to pay for the Bronze plan cause their income was too low to even qualify, even through they wanted to pay!, AND both feel guilty for being on “welfare.” They do not like that guilty feeling one bit I can assure you. Messes with their independence and fierce self reliance. Back to square one, plus two on Medicaid.

Walt — As much as folks try, you can’t blame Obama for Iraq or Afghanistan. He didn’t start those wars. He may have fumbled the handoff but he did not call the play, Bush and Cheney did.
Russ — You miss the point with your automatic ‘attack Obama’ response… What is going on in iraq today would not be happening at all without the American invasion, which did more to destabilize the area in a decade than Al Queda could have done in 50 years. Comparing Libya to Iraq is like comparing Grenada to VietNam, not too relevant but a good attempt at grasping for straws. According to Alan Greenspan it is naive to think Iraq was about anything but oil. But you are correct in the assumption that Bush lied to make money for himself, Cheney, the Kochs, and all kinds of oilmen also made a ton of money now and in the future as a result of the de-nationalization of Iraqi oil.
Maybe Walt can explain the relevance of his 10:27 post to the discussion of Iraq.

Scott– you must live in an alternate universe to think that Iraq was not decimated. Any factual account of infrastructure destruction and replacement will tell you that in most places in Iraq, they still do not have the same level of electrical power as before, not to mention the thousands of destroyed buildings, roads, and families. Seems you have personalized the Presidency and parsed it into terms. Americans vote for a Presidential office and if you think differently then you arer quite naive. When Obama was elected did he not carry on all the other aspects of government from the previous four and eight years? Of course he did. But the libs can’t deal with that reality so they personalize and parse the term of office. I find that very short sighted.
Obama embraced the Afghan war and pledged to get the troops out of Iraq on a Bush timeline. Now the place is being blown up by Al Queda thugs and terrorists with no care for human life. Re Gregory 346pm – Yes, I have been a proponent of the H1-B visa program – have both hired such engineers and worked with them as colleagues. My support has been for such workers to 1) add to the STEM workforce that a US company cannot fill with American workers, and 2) entice experienced (and US educated) foreign workers to remain here and become US citizens so as to bolster our STEM workforce and (as they often do) to become entrepreneurs adding to America’s rich landscape of technology companies. I have never supported H1-Bs being imported to replace in-place and productive US STEM workers on American soil. In fact, I didn’t know that such a practice was even legal. (As an employer of H1-Bs I always had to show cause that I was not able to hire Americans of similar skill sets. This I did with evidence of unanswered want ads, head hunter failure histories, and interview records.)

You have been led to evidence of H-1B hi-jinks in the past, I am at a loss that you are still surprised by such reports.
If you read the Chronicle, their jobs section(in conjunction with Monster) is an eye opener… a large percentage of the supposed classified ads have practically no information about the job other than title and the address to send a resume via snail-mail. Guaranteed, they just wanted proof they’d advertised the position without the hassle of anyone with half a brain investing 50 cents on the off chance the job would actually be a match, and the company wanted the resume.

I have mixed feelings over the program, but I would rather see good, skilled labor immigration and other guest workers, ( those here just to make a buck, to those learning our (maybe)proven( and safer) methods to take home. ( key words.. take home)
But it sure rubs the wrong way when they actually replace the current worker.
That’s just wrong on SOOO many levels.
Now we have this new open boarder issue to deal with. All that cheap undocumented labor to exploit. It’s sure going to be a bitch for me to get a job. It’s not just
unskilled labor jobs these people are taking. ( and not just the construction world)

And without a sheepskin in hand, your life will be meaningless, and will “never” amount to anything.
Yes, it is hard work. But look at the gym membership dues they save.

Second, I too eek out a living getting my hands dirty. A high school buddy who later became one of Southern Cal Edison highest paid non white collar dudes (and still is, working in some underground bunker in case of the Apocalypse with the controls in his hand)put it to me this way. Planners and architects and engineers can design all the cities, but we blue collar types are the ones who build them. Without us, there are no cities and without us, the lights don’t stay on.
Be of good cheer my man. I met many young bucks who have gone into welding, HVAC, etc, who are so busy they are rarely home for supper. I also meet others with degrees who are sponging off some girl they met who has a job. The former are much happier and more pleasant to be around than the latter.
That is not to say there is not enough room here for the Dr. Rebane, Mr. Steele, and Mr. Gregory types. But, I hear ya. The illegals got into the trades then expanded from being painters and sheetrock dudes and masons to more highly paid semi-skilled positions in the construction fields.
Heck, I work with a dude from Ukraine…I called him the Mad Russian and he used to correct me with mild irritability saying he is not Russian. “I am Ukrainian.” I told him same difference as you guys all look the same, lol. Yes,,, speaking of “without us”,, (True story my Back when one of my daughters
was in the 5th grade, the teacher was lecturing one of her friends, about smarting off and not taking school seriously. Then the teacher made a comment that really
teed of my kid. Teach said,” What do you want to do? wind up digging ditches for a living?” Without missing a beat, my darling child piped up ” MY DADDY digs ditches for a living,, and without him, you would be peeing out a window!” ( Mine all mine…)
Ya’ think I got a call from the school?
She is still the same fist full of dynamite.

“On the IRS computer crash: I really don’t know anything about it and really don’t give a crap.”
Perfect – Joe doesn’t know anything about it. And doesn’t care.
Since he knows nothing about it, how does he decide he doesn’t want to care about it? Great line of reasoning. See how the lefty brain functions?
Joe is gleefully ignorant and has no plans to educate himself.
“I don’t give a crap” – Put it on his tombstone.
But you do care about Bush’s financial portfolio – what do you know about that? Oh – that’s right – you don’t know anything about that either. But you do care about it. What is the difference?

Walt, so you have a daughter that is a little firecracker, full of piss and vinegar, while being the sweetest thing this side of paradise. Good for you. Good Daddy, good! Raised mine to be polite yet firm, tough yet kind, pragmatic and they don’t no take outright BS, even from me (and a few teachers as well).
Since this is the sandbox and I don’t feel like kicking sand at anybody at the moment (even Mr. Todd the Homely) and since you, Dr. Rebane, Mr. Steel Extraordinaire and others have been blessed with “the sweetest things this side of paradise” and survived the teenage wars, how about a belated Father’s Day video for y’all. Its long but made me smile. Take it or leave it. Even those with strong handsome sons, like Mr. Gregory.
The world’s problems will still be waiting for you all day and all night long.

Gregory 602pm – The salaries offered were commensurate at the high end of industry scales at the time – I made no difference between domestic and H1-B talent. The problem in my sector of systems engineering has always been the scarcity of talent.
Don’t know what evidence of H1-B “hi-jinks” I have been “led to in the past”, and I wouldn’t equate “surprise” to being merely ignorant of the reported hi-jinks. Apparently most of the nation was so disposed, otherwise revelation of the practice would not have made national news.

“JoeK, tell us the parts of Iraq that were devastated please. ” — Todd, are you kidding me? This is the most absurd statement I have ever heard. Do you not get the news? We blew the country to pieces and killed tens of thousands of civilians in the process. Of course, I forgot you cons live in an alternate universe where facts are invented to support your twisted point of view. Todd, tell me what parts of Iraq were not devastated, it might be a shorter list than the places that were.
Scott– why do I have to give a crap about every story that comes across the wire, you don’t. You righties pick and choose what facts to ignore and not ignore, like the devastation of Iraq, which seems to me to be significantly more important than some conspiracy theory about emails. It’s just another story whose significance is blown way out of proportion like Bundy and of course, the stock right wing answer to everything: Benghazi. Ask a conservative what the weather is and the answer is Benghazi. Ask a conservative what day of the week it is and the answer is Benghazi. Ask them when their birthday is and the answer is Benghazi. Let’s all make mountains out of mole hills for political gain, who cares about the truth. Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi, get a life.
Walt – I need my beauty sleep, and unlike some people, this blog is strictly for entertainment purposes, it is not my life.
It appears as though I am the only person left who is willing to engage you folks in any kind of dialogue. Am I just a glutton for punishment or did you all just gross everyone else out?
