“But as a citizen taxpayer who did not vote for that dipstick, I am perfectly able to criticize and offer alternatives which may or not hold water”
Give it a go George. I’m interested in your “alternatives” to Obama’s policy in Afghanistan, Also Iraq, Iran and Syria.

“But such notions have continued to escape both liberals and libertarians.”
But of course, only the “conservetarians” have it right. It is to laugh.
I will echo Paul’s question about Iraq, Iran, and Syria. What to do? At this point, I am almost in favor of providing the region with enough arms, over a sufficient amount of time, that they nullify themselves.
    Thoughts?

MichaelA 118am – Not at all; such notions have been embraced by enough Repubs and Dems to maintain our ability to project power worldwide since WW2. Only the pro-globalist left and orthodox libertarians oppose our continued role as a world hegemon.
What should we do about Syria, Iran, and Iraq? To try to give glib one or two sentence answers in this comment stream will do nothing to advance anyone’s understanding and just give rise to sharp shots and snark. It appears that you and PaulE seem to agree on the protocol that no one can criticize an obviously dysfunctional policy without concurrently offering a thought out alternative that satisfies someone’s unknown utility.
I’m prepared to explore mid-east alternatives on RR, but only if there is any interest to proceed in a reasonable and reasoned manner. Past attempt to do that with our progressive readers have failed miserably – formulating an alternative to Obamacare comes to mind.

So life is going to be rough for those LIBS running for re election

There area few Dems that believe that what “O” and Co. have been up too

I think your old enough Paul to remember Watergate, and all the fun about some erased tapes, and using the IRS for political gain. “O”‘s administration knew about this from day one.
Wouldn’t it be grand if emails getting deleted would come into play?
But we do have fake email accounts in the EPA, Sheila Jackson quit and ran for cover. But all the heads have yet to role at the EPA.
Then Benghazi.. Just where in Hell was “O”? Hiding under his desk?
No one has yet to be held accountable for a certain occupant of a new grave
right here in this county. Some of us still demand answers. Nope, This isn’t going away like “O” hopes it will.
If you think the LIB press is going to let the secret rectal exam from Holder and the boys go un answered,, lol!
I do believe LIBS will be kicked to the curb in the mid terms.
But GOD help them if something new rears it’s ugly head.
It’s been a real tough week for poor Jay the Carney, and it’s only Wed.
I don’t think “O”‘s vary own Bagdad Bob could handle anymore butt covering

It is more than extremely revealing that Iran-Contra (alleged gun running to combat a communist foothold in Central America) is considered by progressives to be a much more serious threat to our Republic than the IRS being used by the administration to shut down political opposition.

There was a bureaucratic battle going on between Nixon and the FBI with carefully orchestrated press leaks from Mark Felt (deep throat) . That’s what brought Nixon down and allowed him to twist slowly, slowly in the wind.
J Edgar probably set the wheels in motion because he hated Nixon and did not trust him. He died before he could enjoy the fruits of his labor. The F.B.I. had always done the president’s bidding — until J. Edgar Hoover said he would not carry out the president’s dirty tricks. Then the F.B.I. took Nixon down. I suggest you read Tim Weiner’s “Enemies: A History of the F.B.I.”
George, when you tie the IRS debacle to Obama with facts let me know. As of now it’s just speculation. Iran Contra is historical fact.

If the accusations are true about Tea Party and the IRS, I say welcome to the party of activism. Anybody who challenges the status quo and the establishment gets targeted. Despite regurgitating the extremely wealthy talking points of no taxes, no regulations, and free markets the Tea Party has challenged the establishment of the Republican Party and it has created a great divide in the party. I love it and support the Tea Party’s challenging the establishment leadership of the Republican Party but very much disagree with the solutions they propose.
Left leaning groups have been the target of US government, agencies, and IRS for decades, welcome to the club. I will leave you all with a poem that rings true for the Tea Party with the IRS accusations. I will oppose these actions by the IRS to target any group because of political activity, I just wish we would have had the same treatment from the right.
Martin Niemöller (1892-1984) was a prominent Protestant pastor who emerged as an outspoken public foe of Adolf Hitler and spent the last seven years of Nazi rule in concentration camps.
Niemöller is perhaps best remembered for the quotation:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out–
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out–
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out–
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me–and there was no one left to speak for me.

    Connecting the Dots
How the Media Outrageously Blew the IRS Scandal
    http://billmoyers.com/2013/07/09/how-the-media-outrageously-blew-the-irs-scandal/
“And they would have gotten away with it, too, had their narrative had the benefit of being true. But now, almost two months later, we know that in fact the IRS targeted lots of different kinds of groups, not just conservative ones; that the only organizations whose tax-exempt statuses were actually denied were progressive ones; that many of the targeted conservative groups legitimately crossed the line; that the IG’s report was limited to only Tea Party groups at congressional Republicans’ request; and that the White House was in no way involved in the targeting and didn’t even know about it until shortly before the public did.”

In light of testimony given by Lois Lerner – who actually broke the IRS mea culpa, what organizations were cited in her disclosure, and her taking the Fifth – I’ll stick with Congressman Darrell Issa’s conclusion that Commissioner Werfel’s report that everyone was equally targeted is still “premature”. In short, let’s let the dust settle first.

“1. Most of the groups flagged by the IRS for extra scrutiny didn’t actually have to apply for tax-exempt status.
For the Tea Party groups that were forced to jump through hoops, this will be a head-slapper.
As it turns out, the 501(c)(4) tax-exempt “social welfare” groups aren’t required to get approval from the IRS to carry on their activities, and in most cases, these groups had no tax liability anyway. For some groups, government certification as a social welfare group could serve as a kind of good housekeeping seal, making it easier to attract donations. This allows them to assure donors their names will remain secret and the only thing the groups actually have to do is file an annual tax return.”

Had any of this sniper stuff had a whiff of credibility, the lamestream would have plastered banner headlines about it across the nation. That they dropped the story strongly indicates that there was no there there, beyond reports in the kinds of outlets that purport a “green perspective”. Now, why all this surprise about surveillance?? Where have you been my Brother Ben. Duh, its been going on long before 9/11, long before. My Russian (hot bodied) friend fled to the US. He/she got a job selling used cars, got her masters in psychology, started working on her doctorate when she landed a job at the Linguistic Institute in Monterrey teaching CIA agents how to speak Russian without an American accent. From there she was head hunted by Langley, VA at the Big CIA center. Might have been before the term NSA was coined, definitely before 9/11. Anyways, the mighty computer has been listening to every phone call we make for decades. Common knowledge to everyone except those that think this is something new. Because of that, I never utter the word boob on the phone or even here. Yes, its not the word boob, it is a word that has a “m” instead of the second “o” in it. Bang! Kapowie! Big noise. You catch my drift.

Its a new world. I am not surprised that your fellow protestors were simply following their Constitutional rights and were being spied upon. Reciprocity? Guess we are all domestic terrorists now. Vets, millions of gun owners, the Religious Right, maybe even the Jews. Welcome to the fold. Guess when there are not enough foreign terrorists to spy on, Big Brother turns on spying on us domestic terrorists. Just like the Russians and Eastern European countries did back in the day. Welcome to Obamastan.
Before Timothy McVay, the reports showed that the most likely groups to commit domestic terror were the radical greenies, like Earth First! and similar faces of Satan’s spawn.
