Woke up this morning to a blatant Obama-centric report of last night’s debate on National Propaganda Radio’s Morning Edition. Talk about being in the tank for everything progressive. Of course, Mitt’s promise to pull their federal funding doesn’t help that already biased outfit to cut him any even-handed slack. In any case, it was a masterpiece of journalistic subterfuge. For example, their handpicked ‘expert’ was asked the same question Romney asked Obama about how many federal drilling leases were cancelled after Obama took office. The expert mimicked Obama and started talking about the ‘complexity’ of the energy situation, blah, blah, … . Apparently the correct answer is that Obama cancelled about 60+% of the sea leases, and about 30% of the land leases. The NPR journalist just ignored being ignored, and went on to the next question the answer to which was another Vote Obama ad.
Re the debate itself – I don’t know exactly how to characterize its impact on the Rebanes. Most certainly it had more than one dimension for which people awarded ‘debating points’. On the charisma, animation, and enthusiasm parts we definitely saw a comeback from the President. He was more like the man he deports himself to be on his stump appearances. That must have given great comfort to all his supporters who last time saw a man who looked like he was planning his return to Hawaii next January while Mitt was talking.
On matters of substance, Mitt was a slam dunk and Obama was a lying sack of … .
Immigration – Obama couldn’t pull off his promised immigration reform with super-majorities in both houses because he was too busy screwing up the economic recovery.
Energy independence – He had to torpedo real initiatives (i.e. increasing fossil fuels production and distribution) because he was too busy picking losers in his ‘green jobs’ disaster. The latest to solyndrize yesterday was A123 battery developer for the new Fisker electric cars which explode in flames. In quiet embarrassment the feds have pulled the remaining funding for them after flushing over $500M down the Fisker toilet.
Economy – Sang the ‘I Created 5 Million Jobs’ medley again to which Mitt was too tongue-tied to mention that Obama’s economic and tax policies inhibited the creation of the needed (and historically ‘normal’) 10M jobs that would have put back to work all who lost jobs and new workers looking for jobs.
Foreign policy – here the air became thickest with lies and the clear build of a cover-up which I will call the Benghazi Bamboozle. With moderator Crowley’s help Obama was able to skate past using the word ‘terrorist’ in his day-after announcement in another context to cover for his contention that he told the nation our consulate had been attacked by terrorists, and then going on for 14 days talking up the ‘video riot’ before finally fessing up that it was an al-Qaeda terrorist attack.
In the meanwhile, his lackeys – most notably Susan Rice – shamelessly maintained at every opportunity that their best information to date was that Benghazi was a video riot, and everyone was waiting for “all the information” to come in. The bullshit just flowed out of the White House from all doors and windows, and the lamestream lapped up all of it. Finally the truth, that State had real time communications with Benghazi during the attack, hung the lie label on the video riot story, and now the dance starts as to who knew what when. The lamestream and countrywide local lackeys are in full smokescreen mode until the election they are betting on winning.
Again, Mitt failed to capitalize and didn’t ask Obama, ‘If you knew it was a terrorist attack on 9/12 and claimed to have said so, then why did you have Rice sing the video riot song all over Sunday TV five days later?’, and, oh yeah, ‘What was that crap you had Joe put out last week about no one telling the President what was happening in Benghazi when State was on the horn with our consulate on 9/11?’
The Repubs will have to work hard to snatch this defeat out the jaws of victory.
[18oct12 update] The record of Debate2 bears study from so many different angles – here’s one on the outright lies about energy policy. The only Obama strategy that will remain intact until 6 November is summarized in the graphic below.
