Truthout.org has published a major article ‘Breivik's Fundamentalist War on Politics, and Ours’ which is a progressive manifesto, and itself a declaration of war on conservatives and their politics.  Author Henry Giroux (one of truthout’s “news analysts”) forges every connection imaginable between Breivik, the Norwegian mass murderer, and anybody to the right of Hugo Chavez.

There is no doubt in the minds of truthout.org subscribers (this 501c3 solicits funds every month) that the greatest danger to America comes from “fundamentalists”, which is the labeled can into which all people like me (you?) are thrown.  Coming from leftwing sources like the White House, and now these people, the "terrorist" label is starting to sound like a drumbeat.

Missing from the fundamentalist toolbox is the necessity for self-reflection, thinking critically about the inevitable limitations of one's arguments, or being morally accountable to the social costs of harboring racist ideologies and pushing policies that serve to deepen racist exclusions, mobilize fear, and legitimate a growing government apparatus of punishment and imprisonment.  What connects the moral bankruptcy of right-wing Republicans who embrace violent imagery in order to mobilize their followers with the mindset of extremists like Breivik is that they share a deep romanticization of violence that is valorized by old and new fundamentalisms, whose endpoint is a death-dealing blow to the welfare state, young people, immigrants, Muslims, and others deemed dangerous and, so, "disposable."

After reading Giroux’s piece, a simple perusal of RR comment streams quickly reveals that our leftwing compatriots here are exactly of a piece with the worldview and philosophy of this leftist ideologue.  The opinions expressed on truthout.org are not to be dismissed, since their stable of contributing authors includes many (most?) of America's progressive luminaries.  This is their home stomping ground, and their readers are collectivist intellects who can master the sometimes thick porridge that the site pours out.

A remarkable telltale of their firm position on the political spectrum is the fairly frequent pace of publications that take even the Chief Community Organizer to task – maybe he’s not that bad after all.  So if you do happen to be a little to the right of Hugo, pour yourself a stiff one, send the young’uns out of the room, and wade in.

So what’s the difference between this and Todd calling leftwingnuts, which includes many of the contributors to this blog, violent psychopaths? The connection to identifiable local citizens is well documented.

PaulE, ToddJ lives in a backwoods mountainous county, is a retired private citizen, and his voice doesn’t carry very far. Vice President Biden and various Democratic members of Congress have loud national voices and very large followings. Truthout.org is their nationally known amplifier and repeater.

I agree Todd is an insignificant backwoods expostulator that no one bothers to listen to. I didn’t know Todd was retired.

Truthout.org, moveon.org, etc are the terrorists. They produce fear/hate to push the sheep into slavery. The non-profit status sickens me.
The hypocrisy of such socialist terrorists is overwhelming. They once smoked joints and bagged on ‘the man,’ ‘the war machine’ and ‘conformity’; now they push ‘the man’ and ‘conformity’ on the masses at the end of a gun.

Paul, “Wingnuts” is Mr. Avlon’s (Author of “Wingnuts: How the lunatic fringe is hijacking America”) name for the “extremes” from both sides of the political aisle.
It seems to be a well worn term as of late–that is used by leftist and rightist.
Is it really OK that our VP calls Tea Party members “Terrorists” because Todd calls some people “Wingnuts”. Well, regardless of how you feel, the middle independent voters are seeing the desparate rhetoric for the hypocrisy it is…especially after the tragic shooting of congreswoman Gifford.
The party of Humpty Dumpty is cracking up, and all the “Rules for Radicals” rhetoric tricks will not repair the egghead.

I don’t care if Todd calls someone a leftwingnut, which he often does. It’s when he then calls them violent psychopaths that I object.
I’m very disappointed in Mikey’s rhetoric. Libertarian thought is a solid political philosophy that doesn’t need that kind of simplistic, rather pathetic voicing.

PaulE, I used your link to hear what Beck had to say and cannot imagine how you drew your conclusions from his remarks – – or did you form your opinion based on the commentary that followed? Beck said nothing (except from being wrong on where Geert Wilders is from) in the least hateful, but, indeed, contained a great deal of truth.

Rt Wing loves heros, and so does the left. How come these two are unsung?
Hege Dalen and her spouse, Toril Hansen were near Utöyan having dinner on the opposite shore across from the ill-fated campsite, when they began to hear gunfire and screaming on the island.
“We were eating. Then shooting and then the awful screaming. We saw how the young people ran in panic into the lake,” says Dale to HS in an interview.
The couple immediately took action and pushed the boat into Lake Tyrifjorden.
Dalen and Hansen drove the boat to the island, picked up from the water victims in shock in, the young and wounded, and transported them to the opposite shore to the mainland. Between runs they saw that the bullets had hit the right side of the boat.
Since there were so many and not all fit at once aboard, they returned to the island four times.
They were able to rescue 40 young people from the clutches of the killer.
“We did not sleep last night at all. Today, we have been together and talked about the events,” Dalen said.

I marvel the many regular commentators that tenaciously work to change the subject / divert attention from the main point.
To equate what Todd or Glenn say or write to what the elected leaders of our government and their czars/cabinet officials say or write is remarkable.
In prior years, the Vice President has been revered as being second in command. But I suppose 3 years of Joe Biden’s repeated gaffs have demonstrated clearly he’s not really capable of ever being President.
So, for those that agree Biden is a failure at VP, I’ll agree Biden can continue to utter his hate speach.

Paul, it’s still not there. Beck claims that communism and fascism in the US represent the left but by comparison, in Europe, fascism represents the right rail and contrasted to here where the right is “anarchy.” He goes on to call Breivik a right-wing fascist, plainly. His main point is that violent extremists on one side of an argument will inevitably provoke violence from the opposite side. What’s to disagree about whit that sentiment?

My view is that a terrorist is the most despicable type of human. They are mass murderers responsible for great grief. NOTHHING Todd or Glen have said or written (to my knowledge) is even on the same scale.
Glen and Todd may have said or written things that I don’t pesronally find appropriate from time to time–but they’re not the Vice President of the current leader of the world….so it’s inconsequential to dwell on their rhetorical judo.
For Biden and other Democratic Leaders to use such hate speech is completely innapropriate…not to mention entirely UNPRODUCTIVE.

BTW, what is Dan Quayle doing these days? Is he a Teeper Creature?
    Apparentlynot:
“Dan Quayle on Obama’s greens habit: ‘I’m glad he’s out there playing golf’
    By Michael O’Brien – 03/17/11 07:00 AM ET
Republicans should leave President Obama alone about his golfing habit, former Republican Vice President Dan Quayle said Wednesday evening.
Quayle, who served as vice president from 1989-1993, said it was unreasonable for Republicans to expect Obama to be constantly monitoring every issue in the world.
“I’m glad he’s out playing golf. I happen to be a golfer,” Quayle said on the Fox Business Network. “I think presidents deserve down time. And believe me, he is in constant communication with what’s going on.”
Many Republicans enjoy publicly chiding the president for playing golf amid all the troubles in the world that beguile a commander-in-chief. Golfing is a hobby Obama has enjoyed with some vigor since becoming president, and he frequently golfs on Saturdays when the weather is nice in Washington.
“I mean, what do you want him to do, stay in his house and be on the phone with the ambassador to Japan all the time?” Quayle retorted. “

But those kinds of logical connections are rife in liberal annals of discourse (cf. almost any article on truthout.org, and writings of Paul Krugman and Robert Reich), and well represented here on RR. It is the frustrating part of what keeps the right/left dialogue(?) going, and the expanding basis for a polarization that makes the Great Divide very likely.

I recall the big fuss made by the Democrats over Quayle’s misspelling of Potato(e). Quite trivial compared to Biden’s Hate Speech.

Ironic how many of the same Democratic leaders and their allies in the media hounded Senate Leader Trent Lott for his statement:
“When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn’t have had all these problems over the years, either.” –words uttered only as a courtesy to a US senator on his 100th birthday–A senator I might add who was never a member of the KKK as Senator Byrd was).
And yet when the Vice President calls millions of Americans “Terrorist”–that’s okay for the Democratic leadership…and even some of the readers here it seems.
Frankly, to attacks like these on the Tea Party reminds me of the historical accounts of Hitler blaming Germany’s economic and social woes on the Germany’s Jews and intellectuals.

What is with all the mock outrage?
A terrorist is a person who terrorizes  or frightens others.
To terrorize is to dominate or coerce by intimidation.
The rant that George quoted was, in part, a response to a clip from the movie, “Our Town”, featuring Ben Affleck who physically terrorizes somebody.
It should be obvious, at least to most people, that Congress members are not about to pull out their letter openers and do battle. But, the other side will scream before they are even touched.

Regarding your attacks Paul, you went viral on a personal level against me and are doing your best to besmirch me. To no avail Paul. Saying someone “acts like a terrorist” is not haye speech. It is a statement of fact, indicating a stubborn streak of amazing proportions, on the part of those doing the acting.
“Sources inside a closed-door meeting of Senate Democrats today said Vice President Joe Biden participated in a bit of name-calling. But not just any name-calling. No, those sources tell Politico that Biden likened Tea Party Republicans to “terrorists.”
“We have negotiated with terrorists,” angry Rep. Mike Doyle, a Democrat from PA, said, according to sources who were in the room. “This small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money.”
    Biden agreed:
Biden, driven by his Democratic allies’ misgivings about the debt-limit deal, responded: “They have acted like terrorists,” according to several sources in the room.
Biden’s office refused to comment to Politico about what was said, citing that the meeting took place in a closed-door session.
The rhetoric wouldn’t be odd for the fiery former Senator from Delaware. As Politico notes, earlier in the day he told Senate Democrats that Republican leaders have “guns to their heads” in trying to negotiate deals.
The comments come as both sides of the aisle are upset about the proposed deal between Republican and Democratic leaders in both the House and Senate, and Biden was dispatched to try and rally support.”

    4) The recent spat of FDA SWAT style raids on Raw Milk and Organic Food producers ( e.g. http://reason.com/blog/2011/05/16/raw-milk-raid-on-amish-farmer ) (Obama Era)
