[“Normativity is about to make a comeback”, so writes Georffrey Ingersoll in his blog (here). He provides us with some relevant data on the socialist uprising in New York and other places, and gives compelling arguments that these socialists are really double dummies – ignorant, incompetent, and on the government tit. But what concerns me is his conclusion that these people seeking to destroy what is normal in our country are about to be smothered by the ‘normies’ making a comeback. I don’t see such a comeback happening; in fact, it seems to me that exactly the opposite is going on – the Bolsheviks are increasing in number. Does anyone else agree with my view? gjr]

PaulE – Not sure you know what poll results you regularly quote here. The “minus 21” is not the job approval rating, but it is the spread between approval and disapproval. The two should not be confused.
RH – You imply that the deal was somehow dirty. We need the tungsten and there was no other group of American investors clamoring to take on the risky investment.

How about this: Fox Poll shows 39% approve of the job Trump has done as President and 60% disapprove. That’s a 21% difference. Why do you keep trying to defend this guy?

re: Bernie Sanders.
To be fair, his government income doesn’t appear particularly high. A quick peek shows me that there are 40+ people at the Nevada County government who make more than a US Senator, no doubt it’s required to get the high quality talent. and, he did write some books and the wife was good at cash extraction herself.
My view on someone like that is that the real money in those gigs is non-monetary. By that I mean that your typical Senator is treated as a form of modern royalty, gets scads of freebies, their hands held, massages by aides, really not so different than the Soviet system. There’s a reason these people want those jobs so badly. It’s one part ego and one part a shortcut to being a member of the ruling class.
Didn’t use to be true, but the metastasizing of government and the ever-shrinking self reliance of the American public gets you to that place. With the wholesale change in culture, both organic and via unlimited immigration, I’m afraid it’ll just get worse until there’s some sort of (inevitable) do-over.

re: insider trading.
You can certainly argue that all financial instruments owned by Congress were invested in index funds of some sort, but they”d simply work around it by having a friend or family member do the deed.
Sadly, there appears to be a huge disconnect between being useful and being paid well.
on another note, a grossly oversimplified idea. If we avoid public funding of ‘intellectuals’, could there be a huge decrease in this kind of tosh? Insane constructs formed from symbols would still exist, witness Marx, but at least I wouldn’t be paying for it. We could spend the money on sewer systems and CNC machines.

I was just digging into the AB 2047 kerfuffel. Once again it shows how insane California Democrats are (it fell along strict party lines of course).
That’s the one where all 3d printers have to phone home and make sure that you are making stuff you are allowed to make. Naturally, copyrights/patents will soon follow firearms parts. It also kills off a world of open source software and plans.
I can’t say that ‘insane’ is the right word, as California Democrats, who run the whole show, are told what to do by a combination of corporate interests and ‘non-profits’ run by Karens.
Speaking of Karens, I really did like the first few seconds of this video. It isn’t like the old ladies make any difference since the fix was already in, as usual.
(note, Rebane’s Ruminations dot com is doing something crazy with a YouTube link. Search for ‘CA senators vote to kill 3D printing industry “to make a statement” – this is garbage’ in YouTube if you like. You’d think that text would be easy, but that is not allowed anymore.).

Ol’ Bernie was legendary….and this was on a Hippy Commune IIRC, not typically known for their devotion to the Protestant Work Ethic ….as the laziest guy they had ever had around! Labor to Mr. Sanders seems to be beating one’s gums rather than picking up a shovel (then) and voting himself tribute (now) by expropriating the work of better (well probably not Sam Altman), smarter men.
