DC crime rate is low and not impacted by Trump’s federalizing crime suppression in the District – so claim the city's socialist leaders.  Well now.  The long term average DC murder rate is three per week, and since the police were augmented by the feds They’ve gone 11 days without a murder, that kind of hiatus would occur only with probability of 0.009,  Therefore the most likely explanation is that Trump’s actions significantly brought down the city’s murder rate.  The real problem comes when the feds withdraw and DC goes back to business as usual – i.e. it’s all about culture change.

Have you noticed that all lamestream reporting of weather events – too hot or cold, hurricanes, tornadoes, windblown wildfires, floods, … – strongly implies that it’s all due to preventable manmade climate change?  To make everything peaceful and quiet again all that is needed are more well-funded green programs operating in an environment of ever more economically burdensome regulations and laws.  Never mind, as Bjorn Lomborg continues to point out, that there is no evidence to support that leftwing hysteria.

[31aug25 update] Does Trump really want to adopt Beijing’s state-directed model?  It sure looks like it.  The administration intends to take a stake in Intel, to nationalize Lockheed Martin, to receive golden shares of Nippon Steel, to claim a piece of the action from Nvidia and AMD, and to garner royalties from research patents.

I am sure your numbers are correct, but you come to a ridiculous choice.
Either keep the National Guard and military patrolling the streets of America, or, there will be crime in the streets.
We know Proto Fascist Trump would like to have dictatorial powers.
Would you give it to him in the name of some statistics?

We all would like to have zero crime.
And we know that the drug dealers and thieves know they are being hunted so they are probably vacationing South of the Border on some Caribbean island, waiting for this latest show of Trump Theater – Bad Boys episode filming to end and the show to leave town so they can get back to business.

Meanwhile Ice Queen Noem is busy painting the steel border wall (a material that gets plenty warm in the sun) black, so I guess the fentanyl smugglers won’t be able to see the wall in the dark of night, bump their heads, and give up smuggling.
But hey, Noem is not one to miss a photo op.

Any competent prosecutor and police can apprehend, charge and incarcerate criminals, with a fair trial followed by a first class hanging if called for by the jury.
The current scheme is because there aren’t enough big cities with competent police and prosecutors in the system.

Trump could have supported the funding of police departments that he thinks are doing an inadequate job of policing, but no, that would be socialism.
It is far better to send the military in with a show of force, trump leading the charge with his saber a top his mighty steed, metaphorically speaking.
Makes for a much better photo op with which to feed his base.

Now Barry and George are taking a page from Vlad.

D.C Grand Jury Refuses To Indict Sandwich-Throwing Former Justice Employee

Ironically, in the formerly sane Old America he wouldn’t have been indicted either…..the punishment would have been showing his over the top Ghey (really….you need to see it! It’s at the link so I guess you’ll just have to imagine a pampered, effeminate Washingtonian stamping his feet repeatedly in front of ICE agents Paul Raymond! GeorgeB 934pm – Given the number of annual murders in DC, the five week hiatus you cite is somewhat astounding. Using the most recent annualized murder rate of 187 per year (2024), the probability of a five-week holiday calculates to 1.55-8 = 0.0000000155, less than 2 chances in 100,000,000. Given the hanky-panky that the Dem city governments do with their high crime rate data, the low probability gives me pause that your citation is in fact correct.

RH 942am – Nowhere have I claimed that “America is a red state”. America’s population has been miseducated so much for so long that barely 40% of us continue to believe that free market capitalism is the best way to organize an economy, and a democratic republic is the best way to organize a society overall. The remainder of our neighbors, like you, are incipient socialists, many now toying with communism as your desiderata in governance. The evidence for that in our schools, media, entertainment, and voting history is overwhelming.

Dr. R, the D.C. homicide numbers I cited come from the same source as Trump’s claim there were no murders for 11 days with the troops in charge, the D.C. Police Department. I’m confident the numbers are accurate because Trump has a history of checking and rechecking stats before sharing them with the public. Misleading or confusing the public is the last thing he wants to do.

GeorgeB 222pm – No Mr Boardman, there was no 5-week (35-day) period without a murder in Washington, D.C., in the last four years. The longest homicide-free stretch during this time occurred in 2025 and lasted for 16 days. According to a Washington Post fact-check: D.C. went 16 days without a homicide between February 24 and March 13, 2025. This was cited as the longest streak in at least six years. A subsequent, shorter 12-day streak (also cited by Trump) without a homicide ended this August 2025 according to the newspaper.
If indeed you and President Trump get your information from the same sources, you probably missed this. TDS has been known to do that to its sufferers.

I’m afraid BeerBelly has a hard time keeping track of money and numbers past 10.
My record here on George’s blog is clear on my financial views.
Calling yourself a libertarian and voting for any Democrat is absurd. They are all the opposite of libertarians. But if it makes you sound cool at the cocktail parties – whatever.
BeerBelly is upset by something costing a tiny fraction of what he happily votes for and conflates it all as a large number that is clearly beyond his understanding.
And you’re late to the party with the debt clock. I’ve posted that many times.
Our fed debt is structural and unsustainable.
And I doubt the voting public will tolerate the changes that are needed to avoid some kind of disaster in the future.
We can, however, do better or we can do worse and Trump is clearly doing better by leaps and bounds over the previous pack of thieves.
Stopping the massive inflow of illegals alone saves our nation far more than whatever he’s spending to accomplish that goal.

“For Fiscal Year (FY) 2025, the President’s budget requested $107.9 billion, with $62.2 billion in net discretionary funding. Congress has also recently passed a large reconciliation bill that will provide an additional $165 billion to DHS over the next decade, significantly increasing its funding for border security and immigration enforcement.
    Annual Budget Cycle
Each year, the President submits a budget request to Congress for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Congress then passes an appropriations bill, which provides the actual funding for the agency.
    Key Budgets
FY 2025 President’s Budget: The President requested $107.9 billion for DHS, with $62.2 billion in net discretionary funding.
Recent Reconciliation Bill: A separate reconciliation bill includes $165 billion for DHS over the next ten years, with much of it dedicated to border security and immigration enforcement.
FY 2023 Enacted Budget: Congress enacted a budget authority of $60.7 billion for DHS for FY 2023. – tha internet
