[24apr25 – This piece was submitted to The Union on 23 May 2025 for their Other Voices op-ed contributions.  Not only was it not published, but they did not even deign to answer my follow-on inquiries about its acceptance and status.  Clearly I stepped over their editorial line with this piece.  The same fate befell a subsequent mildly worded letter-to-the-editor on another topic.  I may have made the shit list for this strong voice of the Left in these foothills.]

The chaos currently reigning in the Democratic party highlights a propaganda gambit long practiced by socialists and communists of all hues.  Since the Democrats have no program of governance that even they would consider acceptable to broad American constituencies, all they have left to fill the void of their public messaging is to criticize what the Trump administration is doing to exercise its broad mandate from last November to restructure the federal government, cutting waste, corruption, and abuse.  And how do they accomplish this?

The way they have again selected is the tried-and-true method that has worked with the ignorant and lightly read since collectivism crawled into public discourse.  The method is supremely simple and extremely effective.  To wit, first tell an audacious lie about what your political opponents are doing or plan to do, and then spend the remainder of your tirade describing what terrible things would come to pass when/if these fabricated policies were implemented.

The guileless have neither the intellectual skills, background knowledge, nor accessible resources to refute the initial lie, and therefore it is taken as a given to consume the subsequent harangue that details the public suffering to come.

It is easy for the well-read who pay attention to confirm this with their liberal brethren.  Just recount some current events and happenings that embarrass the Left.  You will then quickly discover that they have little or no knowledge of such goings on for the simple reason that their lamestream news outlets (to the extent that they even partake) don’t cover such topics or simply give them short shrift in their reporting.

As a somewhat hyperbolic example to make the point, consider if our habitually comfortable leftwing voters are assured that the Republican-backed parochial schools and home schooling programs promote racism.  And that is the reason why African-Americans and Hispanics rank low academically in public schools and America remains a racist nation.  Having established that preamble lie, our socialist propagandists are then free to launch into extended dissertations about the historical horrors of racism, many of which continue today, and all promoted by Republicans, or Trump, or DOGE, or whoever happens to be chosen as the menace du jour.

To extend this example, we can now see why the Left wants to keep the Department of Education in business getting more money and doing the same ol’ same ol’ with the teachers’ unions while student academic performance continues to deteriorate as it has under decades of their careful anti-student ministrations.  And the saddest part is that their constituencies have no clue of the (Einstein?) established admonition about ignorance.

A death spiral for the dem brand and the generational shift that has recreated the R brand –
When Klein and Shor reviewed numerous charts, including one headlined, “2024 Democratic Support by Age – Split by Race and Gender,” the pollster explained that in this chart in particular, “One thing you can notice is that among 18-year-olds, women of color are the only of the four [race and gender demographic groups] that Harris won. Trump narrowly won nonwhite men.”
The Times columnist seized on one “shocking” finding in the data that defies one of the Democratic Party’s core beliefs.
“I find this part of this chart shocking. I sometimes talk about narrative violations, and if we knew anything about Donald Trump eight years ago, it was that young people didn’t like him. And Republicans had been maybe throwing away young people for generations in order to run up their margins among seniors,” Klein said. “But if you look at this chart, 75-year-old White men supported Kamala Harris at a significantly higher rate than 20-year-old White men.”
“It is a real shift,” Shor agreed. “This is the thing I am the most shocked by in the last four years — that young people have gone from being the most progressive generation since the Baby Boomers, and maybe even in some ways more so, to becoming potentially the most conservative generation that we’ve experienced maybe in 50 to 60 years.”
The data expert went on to discuss what he called “the scariest chart in this entire presentation,” which shows the massive and historically unusual polarization between young men and women.
“What’s crazy is that if you look at people under the age of 30, the gender gap has exploded. Eighteen-year-old men were 23 percentage points more likely to support Donald Trump than 18-year-old women, which is just completely unprecedented in American politics,” Shor said.
“There’s a lot of research to do here, but it’s still very striking,” Shor said. “It’s similar to how a lot of people talk about the Democratic young men problem — and it’s still somehow underrated, because the actual numbers are just a lot worse than people think.”
“Democrats are getting destroyed now among young voters. I do think that, even as the idea of the rising demographic Democratic majority became a little discredited in 2016 and 2020, Democrats believed that these young voters were eventually going to save them,” he said.
“They thought that this was a last gasp of something and that if Donald Trump couldn’t run up his numbers among seniors and you had Millennials and Gen Z really coming into voting power, that would be the end of this Republican Party. That is just completely false, and it might be the beginning of this Republican Party,” Klein added.
“I have to admit, I was one of those liberals four years ago, and it seems I was wrong,” Shor replied. “The future has a way of surprising us.”

Levin’s program this weekend is excellent. Touched on Hegel and Marx… and Antonio Gramsci. Married Hegel with our modern Democratic party, too.
In elementary school I got an earful of Hegelian dialectics… take a new fact, a thesis, look at its opposite or antithesis, and the pendulum swings to a spot inbetween, the synthesis. Why did my young skull full of mush get that crap poured into it 60 years ago? In a California public elementary school?
At least they did a decent job with reading and writin’ and ‘rithmetic in them those days.
