I am distraught and shaken at the news of what President Trump is planning for ending the war between Ukraine and Russia.  It’s taken a few days for me to gather the gumption to get my thoughts down for the record.  Readers know that as the best of available alternatives I have supported Trump’s candidacies and general policies through three elections.  My support has been interleaved with generous dollops of criticisms, especially when he has shot from the lip and acted like a third-grader throwing a tantrum on the playground.  But now in power, he has really shown a new side of himself in the foreign policy arena – he is acting as if he’s never studied history and knows nothing about how international thugs and dictators (especially of the communist stripe) respond to opposing their atrocities.

Putin is a low-life, rank-and-file KGB agent who struck it rich in Russia’s chaotic aftermath during the collapse of the USSR.  To view him as anything other than a murderous thug and liar is to embark on the wrong course regarding any dealings with him.  To that we must add his newfound embrace of becoming the self-aggrandized heroic figure who will reconstitute the old Communist empire and return Russia to its never-was glory days.

It boggles the mind to discover why Trump set up the meetings with Russia and excluded Ukraine’s president Zelensky from the undertakings.  Last time I looked, the war was between Russia and the Ukraine with America and the allies providing war materiel support on an unreliable schedule that so far has favored Putin.  It is Zelensky who has used every legal means (according to Ukraine’s constitution) to administer the state and conduct a decidedly one-sided war to save his country from a criminal invasion and conquest.

And in response Trump not only excludes Zelensky from the negotiations, but gratuitously attacks him personally for no apparent reason, culminating with the patently absurd lie that Ukraine started the war.  Putin and Lavrov are laughing their collective asses off watching Trump go off the rails.  Any C- student of history knows that Moscow’s thugs are playing for time with all the cards stacked in their favor viz no return of conquered Ukrainian territories and Ukraine permanently banned from NATO.  What in hell is there left for the west to negotiate?

Having successfully expanded Russia’s boundaries through bullshit negotiations with the west, Putin will just wait for the next opportunity to again invade convenient neighbors, be it the Baltics, or the rest of Ukraine, or … .  And, of course, China is watching Trump’s screw-ups with keen interest as it prepares for its next moves on Taiwan.

The best source of Trump’s wrong thinking that I can muster is his proudly claimed expertise as a New York real estate negotiator.  Trump, like most western business people, has grown up in the belief that capitalism under liberal governments provides ideal environments for win-win negotiations and deals.  However, the deep-rooted culture of most of the rest of the world, especially Slavic Russia, is that the fundamental nature of negotiations and resulting deals is a zero-sum game – if he’s winning, I must be losing, and vice versa.

So now Trump is trying to engineer a laudable win-win outcome with Putin and present the results, take it or leave it, to Zelensky.  There is absolutely zero chance of that happening.  Putin’s political AND personal survival depends on his being able to continue reconstituting Mother Russia to at least its czarist days.  If he fails in this endeavor, they may not even hold a state funeral for him.

Oi Weh!

    Ya about that –
Marino said, β€œNGOs under the Biden administration were involved in β€˜the largest human trafficking’ operation in the United States,” adding, β€œLet’s also remember that 350,000 missing unaccompanied minors were facilitated by these NGOs. There should be outrage here, not only from the American people, but by Congress.”
NGOs often act as technical advisors to lawmakers but sometimes overstep, effectively replacing legislators in the rulemaking process. The lack of accountability has led to regulations that critics believe benefit special interests over public welfare.
Marino suggested some NGOs may have worked with Mexican cartels while coordinating with DHS and HHS. He called for accountability regarding their roles in migration. Marino said, β€œThere needs to be an investigation forthwith to bring these CEOs to Congress and find out exactly what was going on. But for the American taxpayer to have to send billions of dollars to these NGOs to facilitate the entry of illegals into this country to include criminals and terrorists is unacceptable.”

63 % of German voters did not vote for AFD!Our new administration will be a democratic one! AFD, I repeat, is a partly secured right-wing EXTREMESTIC PARTY, radical and rassist under observation! Their tendence is antidemocratic. If low minded people vote for such a party they probably do not know what they are voting for. Re:Trump: I learnt he was not convicted for rape but for sexual abuse. That does not make much difference for females! I am sorry my first information was not correct. Christel

    Christel Rauber sez:
“partly secured right-wing EXTREMESTIC PARTY, radical and rassist under observation!”
Needs more adjectives, although the ‘N’ word was avoided at least.
I have a funny feeling that AfD is right wing like your average German was 30 years ago, but the window has shifted.
What it all smells like to me is that there’s an outsider party (AfD) and everyone else, the everyone else simply reflecting the needs and fetishes of the nomenklatura there.
” Re:Trump: I learnt he was not convicted for rape but for sexual abuse.”
lol. No he wasn’t. It went down like this:
. Trump has a fling with a sleazy woman…or didn’t depending on who you ask
. Decides to throw $130k at her to keep quiet.
    . She doesn’t keep quiet.
. The money was sent via his lawyers.
. The lawyers expensed it as legal fees in their record keeping.
. Political opposition government attorneys charged him with 34 crimes (somehow) based on that.
Where on earth do you get your information?

Hey, maybe Christel Rauber is referring to the Trump civil lawsuit by E. Jean Carroll.
Keep in mind that lawsuits have much lower standards of proof and the whole thing was definitely not a slam dunk
It’s common in the US for juries to award based on popularity of the parties involved.
Generally, she’s thought of as a crazy woman out for a buck and it’s all just part of US domestic politics.

I’m sorry most all of your “information” is not correct.
The lawsuit against Trump by Carroll was completely made up. She refused to provide a date or even a month when this horrible thing supposedly happened. Because she knew Trump keeps a tight schedule and could easily prove he couldn’t have been in the store. The story line for the accusation was lifted from a novel. She was very specific about the outfit she was wearing that didn’t exist until years after the time frame involved. The judge refused to let the jury hear any of the “rape fantasies” Carroll wrote. She never filed any charges with the police. It was all a lie and Trump called her out for it. If she had been suing anyone else the case would have been thrown out.

    I recall a recording from the ’70’s…
An Irish tenor that looks like Paul McCartney sits at a piano and sings:
“Give Ireland back to the Irish,
Give Lappland back to the Lapps,
Give China back to the Chinese,
and Yoko back to the Japs”
Giving Germany back to the Germans isn’t National Socialist thinking… not when the majority apparently ignores with impunity those who want fewer immigrants.
If we still occupied Germany, making youse guys play nice with your neighbors would be in order.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., is being accused of violating ethics rules after backing laws that financially benefited his wife’s environmental organization.
The Democratic senator and climate hawk voted for key laws that provided funding for grants to the environmental non-profit group that works with his wife, Sandra Whitehouse, and pays her through a consulting firm.

The loony left again wants to take peoples homes after the fire for so called low income housing in the midst of multi million dollar homes, non-starter for sure –
He also requested $9.9 billion from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development via Community Development Block Grants for β€œindividuals, businesses, the state and local communities,” which also could be used to provide taxpayer funds for low-income housing development.
This $2 billion would β€œsupport the creation of 6,500 new affordable units” and β€œincentivizes the development of low-income housing.”
A development subsidy of $307,692 per unit via the low-income housing tax credit could make rents of $2,496 feasible for developers, especially when combined with possible supplementary funding via some form of the aforementioned programs. Some of the $5.3 billion Newsom requested for Small Business Administration loans could also be used for replacing lost apartments with low-income housing.
Pacific Legal Foundation, a libertarian public-interest law firm, suggested to The Center Square that Los Angeles’ low-income housing requirement for the Palisades could be an unconstitutional taking, and thus may not withstand court scrutiny.

Just go to X and search for ‘judge nonprofit’.
Lots and lots of conflicts of interest. Just about every judge attempting to run the executive branch from his bench seems to have a wife working on grant money stolen from taxpayers. A tidy system to be sure.
There appears to be something of a fuss going on as people are crowdsourcing searching of databases. Just wait until someone feeds the whole kit and kaboodle into an AI, dunno if that’s happened yet.

Just to throw out a theory.
I wonder to what extent professions that require unearned certainty spill over into everyday life.
Truth is, no one is going to hire (for instance) an unsure sociologist or economist, particularly the sort who write publicly. Being short isn’t Robert Reich’s only failing.

Here is one for the po ol ponytail of ignorance but i doubt it will help given his issues –
A Harvard CAPS-Harris survey released on Monday gave Trump a 52% approval rating, which is in line with previous recent polling.
While Republicans are still riding high off a wave of victories in November, their opposition has yet to rebound from defeats, with the Harvard poll reporting that the Democratic Party approval rating has hit a β€œrecord low” of 36%, β€œnow 15 points lower than the GOP.”
Trump’s agenda to remove people who are unlawfully in the country and have committed crimes garnered the most support from the public, holding an 81% approval rating. Under the leadership of border czar Tom Homan, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has conducted multiple operations across the country, targeting violent criminals such as the Tren de Aragua Venezuelan gang.
According to the Harvard poll, 72% of voters want Ukraine to negotiate a settlement with Russia instead of winning the war. The polling follows Trump’s move to set up a direct meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate an end to the war.

    Here’s a nice story.

TSA Under Biden Focused on Speeding Up Checkpoints for Illegal Aliens Without IDs, Not National Security
During the Biden Administration, expediting TSA security checkpoints took precedence over national security concerns. Through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit I filed after TSA stonewalled my initial requestβ€”I’ve exclusively obtained the protocols that allowed illegal aliens to board commercial flights with IDs under Biden’s watch. TSA officials claimed these documents didn’t exist during his tenure, but the Trump Administration has since granted me access to this information.

“In a stunning new preprint researchers found that between 1994-2023 not one of the 82 β€œclimate science” papers they identified had a financial or non-financial COI disclosure from at least one author.

I was making breakfast this morning, had KNCO on the radio, and heard this:
“County Climate Action and Adaptation Plan In Works
    Posted: Feb. 24, 2025 4:02 PM PST
In response to increasing threats of wildfire and other natural disasters, Nevada County Supervisors also recently approved a 400-thousand-dollar consulting contract to prepare what’s called a Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. County Planning Director Brian Foss says it’s in line with one of the Board’s annual objectives, which is Resiliency. It was also discussed at the annual workshop last month…”
“Foss says Rincon Consultants will lead community engagement and education efforts. That includes scheduling public workshops in Nevada City and Truckee, visiting community events, and conducting online surveys. He says the Plan is intended to identify cost-effective strategies to protect residents…”
“Foss says the Plan is scheduled to be completed by July of next year. And it will also overlap with the more specifically-focused Community Wildfire Prevention Plan and Hazard Mitigation Plan.”
    https://knco.com/county-climate-action-and-adaptation-plan-in-works/
…and was musing about why we don’t have a local version of DOGE. It’s hard to say what other utter wastes of money go on in county government, but you know there are quite a few. Naturally, if you’re one of those people who go to supervisor meetings to bitch, you just end up with restraining orders and million dollar bails.
It’s kind of a helpless feeling. I think that the primary weapon of Team Blue and the bureaucracy is demoralization.
