[Well, the congressional Repubs can really futch up President Trump and the country if they don't settle quickly on selecting a Speaker. Operational competency of our political parties is in the toilet. The Dems have historically led the way, but the Repubs are doing their best to now take the title. gjr]

roflmao. Direct from central casting. It doesn’t matter, it’ll all crash and burn in any case. Whatever is actually required will never be voted for or done, too many grievances, too many iron rice bowls.
The LA Fire continues. Pretty crazy. The row of houses next to the ocean in Malibu show it’s not merely a matter of keeping the brush cleared.
I expect that the California home insurance market just blew up, but we’ll see. It’s an interesting thought problem to consider making homes genuinely fireproof from external fires of whatever cause…and no, sticking a sprinkler system in/on the things ain’t gonna help.

“Watch any video of LA Mayor Karen Bass.
She has a room temperature IQ and represents the steroid age of DEI and identity politics:
– Started as a Community Organizer for the Venceremos Brigade, a pro-Cuban group, in the 1970s, and then visited Cuba eight times
– Never held a job in the private sector
– Founded Community Coalition in the 1980s and then parlayed that into a California State Assembly seat
– Was gifted a Congressional seat in 2010 by the identity-politics-box-checking DNC to replace the retiring Diane Watson
– Added fake credentials with a Masters degree in Social Work from USC in 2015 as a 62-year-old Congresswoman
– In 2016, she called the death of Fidel Castro a “great loss to the people of Cuba”
– After Biden announced that he would pick a black woman as his VP in 2020, she made the short-list
– In 2022, she was “democratically elected” (installed by Barack Obama) as Mayor of LA”

from the article: “The homeless problem, which has exploded on his watch, especially in L.A. County, is an arson problem year-round. Much of the people on the streets and living in the edges of society are psychotic, largely from extended drug use. To them, when the winds blow, they see fireflies flitting around when they start fires, and it all seems so pretty. We have no idea who started all these fires, but social media is full of timelines of people who when the winds began to blow, spotted homeless people starting fires. If you hear no reportage in the next few weeks about what or who started the fires, trust me. It was sparked by the homeless, and that fact will be deep-sixed by a regime media committed to the leftist narrative that would be forever destroyed if that detail leaked out. ”
You don’t need to be crazy. I utterly guarantee that the first thing you do at night, except on the very hottest nights (and probably even then), when you live on the street is to light a fire. It’s built into human nature at a low level.
Naturally, the homeless industrial complex uses that as a tool for more money, those non-profit exec gigs don’t pay for themselves. “GIVE EVERY ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE AN APARTMENT OR WE’L cough THEY’LL BURN YOUR TOWN DOWN.”

I keep a copy of the report for the East Hills Bay fire in October 1991 (renamed as the Oakland Hills, then re-re-named as the Tunnel fire). I read it every year to show me how intense and overpowering is a firestorm. From page 28:
“Engine 8’s captain directed his crew and a ride-along volunteer to lay a supply line from a hydrant and set up to protect three large houses that were in the path of the fire. They met up with the crew from Engine 24, one crew member from Engine 16, two from Engine 19, and a volunteer who had been helping to fight the fire on the hillside. They were soon joined by five EBRPD firefighters who drove two of their vehicles out of the smoke and flames.
As they set up to protect the structures, the fire that had blocked their path to the west, sweeping down toward the Parkwood Apartments, came back from below their position and cut them off to the east. Seven civilians were trapped along with them. A power line burned through and dropped around the hydrant, burning a hole in the hose and dropping their water pressure. Engine 8 contacted the incident commander to obtain emergency assistance, but there was nothing available to send until the mutual aid strike teams arrived. The captain had his crew members force entry into a large three story house and put all of the civilians inside the concrete block garage. The house was newly constructed and was equipped with an automatic sprinkler system, although he recognized that the sprinklers could never protect the structure from the approaching fire.
The firefighters operated master streams and hoselines on the exterior of the house to keep the wood siding from igniting, flowing an estimated 2,500 gpm, as the fire swept over and around them. Fog nozzles had to be used to protect the members operating the larger handlines that were directed to wet the structure. For an estimated five to eight minutes the fire storm raged around them, burning one of the adjacent houses to the ground, but the exposure protection tactic worked and 20 people survived.”
The best I can get out of my garden hose is 4-5 gpm, far from 2500 gpm. Several areas of this report are identical to the conditions at the Palisades or Altadena. They called them the “Diablo” winds in Oakland, rather than the Santa Ana, however.
From page 1 – “The fire completely overwhelmed the firefighting forces of the area, consuming everything in its path, and was only stopped when the Diablo wind conditions abated.” Lessons learned? Evidently none. The fire responders encountered one problem – the CoCo firemens’ hoses had a different connector-thread that didn’t match the Oakland fireplugs’ threads, and they didn’t have adapters on their trucks. At least that complaint may have been taken care of in LA.
I appreciated the term “force entry” by the fire captain.

The bogus prosecution has happened and it was a travesty. The trial was bogus and it will be overturned as surely as the sun sets in the west.
Maybe Paul ‘Matlock’ Emery can explain how a jury can be instructed to find someone guilty of a felony for a misdemeanor that was charged past the statute of limitations and not even have to be unanimous in their decision.
It is not an embarrassment to be convicted of a crime you didn’t commit. It is an embarrassment that our govts legal system would be used to haul a politician into court for the sole purpose of keeping them off the ballot. At least is is for some of us. ALAN DERSHOWITZ, HARVARD LAW PROFESSOR EMERITUS: Well, what the Judge Merchan and the Democrats want is a hunting trophy with Donald Trump’s head in the hunting — in the trophy. They want to be able to say they have a convicted felon.
So even if it gets appealed and he wins the appeal, they can still say, well, at least for a period of time, 34 convictions. Of course, 34 times zero equals zero because there is no case. In my 62 years practicing teaching criminal law, I have never seen a case like this in the United States and rarely in any other countries where you make up a case out of whole cloth and you base it on testimony which is constitutionally not subject to being use in a case.
But they don’t care. They want that trophy. They want — even if it’s only for a few days to be able to say, a convicted felon — convicted — he’s been sentenced 34 charges. They know it will be reversed on appeal but that’s why generally, it would be a good idea to let the sentence go forward then to get appeal, but in some respects, playing it through his hands.
I met with Donald Trump on Saturday night. We talked about this and he understands this game and he knows that the only purpose for this has nothing to do with the law. It has to do with trying to paint him in a negative way as a convicted felon, as he assumes the presidency so that he’s weakened in the eyes of the world. This hurts America as much as it — as it hurts the Republicans or Donald Trump.
And that’s why every American, whether you’re for Trump or against Trump, should be against this abusive lawfare.
