Kamala Harris’ speech at last night’s Democrat convention was terrifying in its unusually professional delivery and its absolutely vapid content.  That lady has surely learned to read a teleprompter.  But the scariest impact of her acceptance speech were the early returns of enthusiasm with which it was accepted by voters outside the convention center.

“The Vice President spoke with authority and admirable brevity (for) 37 minutes. … Kamala Harris introduced herself to the American public on Thursday, and her presentation was much like this week’s Democratic convention: well delivered, confident and optimistic, and mostly devoid of policy substance. Whether she can keep this up, unexplained and unexposed, for the next 12 weeks will determine whether she becomes America’s 47th President.”  This according to the 23aug24 WSJ (here).

But the real problem will be Trump and the Republican response between now and November.  Thomas Sowell’s warning is worth attending.  In his tempest fugit column (here) he admonishes “Republicans better get on the ball.  They haven’t made the case against Harris, (and) the clock is ticking.”

Instead of responding with “political jargon or snappy quips” wrapped in insults, the rebuttals should be a la Reagan, timely and in plain English.  “There are some Republicans today who seem to understand that. But they are not running in this year’s presidential election. Perhaps they may run in 2028. But there is such a thing as a country declining to the point of no return.  Four more years of disastrous Biden-Harris policies, at home and abroad, can take us past that fatal point.”

Bottom line, as they anticipated the 2022 ‘red wave’, the Republicans should never again underestimate the share of our fellow Americans who will swallow hook, line, and sinker the Democrats’ socialist swill.  Donald Trump does not once more need to demonstrate how he can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

The “terrifying” thing for me is our nation going along with this nonsense. This person was the butt of every political joke on both sides of the aisle until she was re-imagined into our nation’s savior in the span of days.
I love the quote about how she got to “introduce herself”.
    Say what?
She got that opportunity years ago – she was on the stage on national TV and got the chance then. She had a campaign staff and the whole deal.
    Remember?
This will be an interesting campaign now of her being hidden away at every turn and yet she will be “everywhere”. Flattering photos of her on every news page and gushing stories about her and appearances with scripted yak and lots of videos with her and Homer Simpson going on about how gosh-darn happy and joyful they are.
But she will not be allowed to go off script or ad lib. She will have very few one-on-ones and only with friendlies. She’s not just running – she’s the current veep – when has she ever done a press conference?
There will be no details of any depth as to what she wants to do beyond rumors from ‘unnamed sources’.
That way she can pretend to be one thing while being able to deny she will actually push through anything she might get called on. The NYTs just said her best asset is her “energy”. Pretty sure all 5 year olds have that.
Best political joke this week – Babylon Bee shows a photo of Biden being found in a dumpster out in back of the arena after the DNC convention.

    – who was actually a Democrat…
You’re not paying attention, Paul. It wouldn’t matter who the Rs ran, the Dems and the media would label them as NAZIs, racist, etc, etc…
Remember when it looked like DeSantis was growing in popularity to challenge Trump? He was immediately labeled “worse than Trump”.
Conservatives, and actual-republican voters are way past done with Blob-approved Rs like Dole, Romney and McCain.
It’s beyond sad how folks like Paul put their hatred of Trump ahead of what’s best for our nation.
Remember when Bush was an “actual Hitler”?
And now he’s a “good” Republican?
It’s the same guy, Paul – think about that.

    A nice little story.
“Earlier this year, a friend of mine almost had his young daughter taken from him in California just because he wanted her to wait a few years to permanently transition.
He talked the police out of taking her when they came to his house.
That day, he left California with his family.”

When Kamala wins the election, which she undoubtedly will, you will have no one but the Republican Party to blame for handing the reigns of the party to Trump. Do you honestly think Reagan would have supported Trump for President?

WSJ calls out both candidates for lack of details on their campaign promises
    exerts
“Harris and Trump Avoid Detailed Policies in Favor of Big Ideas’
    About Harris:
Vice President Kamala Harris, who accepted the Democratic nomination on Thursday, has in her brief campaign offered a set of ideas and impulses about the course she would pursue as president, but with less detail than many candidates have provided in the past.
    About Trump:
The Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump, for his part also has been scant with details: He has proposed ending taxes on Social Security benefits, but he hasn’t said how he’d cover the cost—estimated by independent analysts at $1.6 trillion or more—or handle the additional instability it would cause to the program’s solvency.

Politicians running for pres almost always promise things they want but would need both houses of congress to agree and act on.
So – depending on who ends in control of the House and Senate, a lot of those promises are empty talk.
The big difference is what a POTUS will do as part of their normal duties.
Harris will continue the Dem pattern with a cabinet of incompetent ideologues whereas Trump will go for experience and performance. Trump was POTUS and we saw how he governed so it’s not as if he is an unknown at the helm.
Harris will (given the opportunity) nominate worthless left-wing SCOTUS persons installed with the express purpose of rubber stamping any left wing laws or policy the Dems can manage to pass.
Harris – at this point – can’t articulate actual details of policy because she hasn’t been given her instructions yet. She just blathers BS lies about Trump, talks about ‘joy’ and fabricates stories of “price gouging”.
Works a treat on the suckers out there.

You write that “Trump will go for experience and performance” in his Cabinet members and appointees.
Here is a review of some of the cabinet members and support personnel that Trump appointed and what they think of him now-complete with a link Keep in mind these are his appointees:
    1. His vice president, Mike Pence: “The American people deserve to know that President Trump asked me to put him over my oath to the Constitution. … Anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be president of the United States.”
    2. His second attorney general, Bill Barr: “Someone who engaged in that kind of bullying about a process that is fundamental to our system and to our self-government shouldn’t be anywhere near the Oval Office.”
    3. His first secretary of defense, James Mattis: “Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people – does not even pretend to try. Instead he tries to divide us.”
    4. His second secretary of defense, Mark Esper: “I think he’s unfit for office. … He puts himself before country. His actions are all about him and not about the country. And then, of course, I believe he has integrity and character issues as well.”
    5. His chairman of the joint chiefs, retired Gen. Mark Milley, seemed to invoke Trump: “We don’t take an oath to a wannabe dictator. We take an oath to the Constitution and we take an oath to the idea that is America – and we’re willing to die to protect it.”
    6. His first secretary of state, Rex Tillerson: “(Trump’s) understanding of global events, his understanding of global history, his understanding of US history was really limited. It’s really hard to have a conversation with someone who doesn’t even understand the concept for why we’re talking about this.”
    7. His first ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley: “He used to be good on foreign policy and now he has started to walk it back and get weak in the knees when it comes to Ukraine. A terrible thing happened on January 6 and he called it a beautiful day.”
    8. His presidential transition vice-chairman, Chris Christie: “Someone who I would argue now is just out for himself.”
    9. His second national security adviser, HR McMaster: “We saw the absence of leadership, really anti-leadership, and what that can do to our country.”
    10. His third national security adviser, John Bolton: “I believe (foreign leaders) think he is a laughing fool.”
    11. His second chief of staff, John Kelly: “A person that has nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution, and the rule of law. There is nothing more that can be said. God help us.”
    12. His former acting chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, who resigned as US special envoy to Ireland after January 6, 2021: “I quit because I think he failed at being the president when we needed him to be that.”
    13. One of his many former communications directors, Anthony Scaramucci: “He is the domestic terrorist of the 21st century.”
    14. Another former communications director, Stephanie Grisham: “I am terrified of him running in 2024.”
    15. His secretary of education, Betsy DeVos, who resigned after January 6: “When I saw what was happening on January 6 and didn’t see the president step in and do what he could have done to turn it back or slow it down or really address the situation, it was just obvious to me that I couldn’t continue.”
    16. His secretary of transportation, Elaine Chao, who resigned after January 6: “At a particular point the events were such that it was impossible for me to continue, given my personal values and my philosophy.
    17. His first secretary of the Navy, Richard Spencer: “…the president has very little understanding of what it means to be in the military, to fight ethically or to be governed by a uniform set of rules and practices.”
    18. His first homeland security adviser, Tom Bossert: “The President undermined American democracy baselessly for months. As a result, he’s culpable for this siege, and an utter disgrace.”
    19. His former personal lawyer and fixer, Michael Cohen: “Donald’s an idiot.”
    20. His White House lawyer, Ty Cobb: “Trump relentlessly puts forth claims that are not true.”
    21. A former director of strategic communications, Alyssa Farah Griffin, who is now a CNN political commentator: “We can stand by the policies, but at this point we cannot stand by the man.”
    22. A top aide in charge of his outreach to African Americans, Omarosa Manigault Newman: “Donald Trump, who would attack civil rights icons and professional athletes, who would go after grieving black widows, who would say there were good people on both sides, who endorsed an accused child molester; Donald Trump, and his decisions and his behavior, was harming the country. I could no longer be a part
    of this madness.”
    23. A former deputy press secretary, Sarah Matthews, who resigned after January 6: “I thought that he did do a lot of good during his four years. I think that his actions on January 6 and the lead-up to it, the way that he’s acted in the aftermath, and his continuation of pushing this lie that the election is stolen has made him wholly unfit to hold office every again.”
    24. His final chief of staff’s aide, Cassidy Hutchinson: “I think that Donald Trump is the most grave threat we will face to our democracy in our lifetime, and potentially in American history.

On Tuesday, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) said the “joy and vibes” surrounding Harris and her choice of radical leftist Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) as her running mate “is a cover-up for the fact that their policies are a disaster for the American people.”

Really….wouldn’t you be disappointed if it wasn’t a psychological shit show….

A FRIEND WRITES: “I forget who it was, but someone made the point that the Democratic ‘weird’ critique is basically a feminized aggression tactic writ large onto political strategy. The argument was that men will argue you’re wrong, and women will argue you’re outside the group. This is amplified by social media and its effects, which reward verbal repartee and social signaling that are present in the novels of Jane Austen, but not in those of Cormac McCarthy. . . . Enthusiasm for Tim Walz as a dad figure is certainly a psychological tell — not on him, but on those doing it.”
I guess if I were going to ride that “weird” angle I wouldn’t have had an abortion-and-sterilization van at my progressive confab!”

We first of all notice that Paul agreed with me that Harris will continue the pattern of inept and unqualified ideologues while Trump will opt for experience and performance.
Then Paul names a tiny, tiny, fraction of Trump’s appointments. Many of whom he probably wishes he had never talked to. On his second term, Trump will stay far away from anyone he even suspects is part of the Blob. Trump, (along with many others) had no idea how far into the rot so many Republicans had fallen.
If Trump had known what a crook Cohen was, the man would never had been Trump’s lawyer.

“WTF!??” Donald Trump Jr. wrote in a post on X. “Another lie from Stolen Valor @Tim_Walz. This loser claimed for decades that he was selected to be part of a Harvard University teaching program… Only problem is that he made it up!!!”
Democrat vice-presidential candidate and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) was caught inflating his background and making it seem like Harvard University was behind a teaching program in China in which he participated, according to a recent report.
A report from the Washington Free Beacon found that Walz had lied about being “named the Outstanding Young Nebraskan by the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce,” and seemingly implying that Harvard University was behind a teaching program, and had picked Walz for “an opportunity” to teach in China through a university program. The program, WorldTeach, was founded in 1986 by several graduates from Harvard University, according to the organization’s LinkedIn page.
“With his teaching degree complete, Harvard University offered Walz an opportunity to gain a new perspective on global education by teaching in the People’s Republic of China,” Walz’s biography on the archived website says. “Working in China during 1989-1990, Walz was a member of one of the first government sanctioned groups of American educators to teach in Chinese high schools.”
The outlet noted that Walz’s congressional biography had allegedly “said the same thing,” and that a 2018 biography allegedly implied that Walz had been teaching in China through the WorldTeach program, “a program at Harvard University.”
A 2001 article in the Harvard Gazette notes that WorldTeach, which began as a “student-run organization,” was “sponsored by the Center for International Development (CID)” and was “an independent nonprofit organization.”
