This is a lament.  From his statements and recent – post Tim Walz – behavior it looks to me that Donald Trump has really gone off the rails and is headed for a massive defeat in November.  As the record of these pages confirms and given the available choices, I have been a qualified Trump supporter ever since he became the Republican nominee in 2016.  During the entire time I have been chagrined at his tendency for bombast, bravura, and exaggeration, especially when on the campaign trail.

Today, when finally presented with an ideal pair of very vulnerable opponents, and eight years of experience under his belt in how his off-track shooting from the lip has been received, he still pays no mind to the harm he does to himself and the Republican party by continuing on the same path.  And he is doing it proudly as he has declared to his audiences that he has no intention of changing his gratuitous personal attacks on anyone that happens to cross his mind while on the podium.

So now the country’s conservatives, capitalists, and small government devotees have to suffer through daily doses of free leftwing talking points served up to the lamestream media by Trump.  Their news stories and commentaries almost write themselves from the copy spouted by our former president.  Instead of focusing on the rich trove of Democrats’ lies and policy screw-ups from the Obama and Biden/Harris administrations, Trump continues to be the petulant third grader on the playground focusing on lurid descriptions of his opponents’ real and imagined personal shortcomings.

Perhaps the most worrying aspect of his campaign is that he has no strong adult advisors in his inner circle who can tell him daily when he needs zip his lip.  It’s hard for me to believe he doesn’t have a cadre or even a small clutch of such people in his inner circle.  But it is clear that he is flying blind without the aid of such critical navigators.  Were such people to exist, we would by now have seen them resigning one-by-one as Trump continued to ignore their counsel.

Given this ongoing travail, my own assessment of his probability of winning in November started with a paltry 0.45 and eked up to 0.48 (here) after the assassination attempt.  But taking into account what has happened since, my belief in his chances for regaining the White House has plummeted to 0.22, or a bit more than one in five.  This new assessment accurately represents the dour mood that the Trump campaign has me in.

I was thinking about psul’s tourette syndrome, but admit that it’s likely that Trump will lose. Short of something like COVID, already holding the office is a huge advantage.

Now, given that, what exactly would be the best route forward to save us from Paul and his Good Friends? I’m willing to learn. Regular/sane people need some guidance going forward and the KVMR news might be just the people to help out. This is a genuine reach across the aisle, just how can we stop progressives from dragging the whole kit and kaboodle down? I figure only a progressive might have good ideas.

    Gotta love campaigns.
From the Harris Campaign: “On this day 7 years ago, Donald Trump said white supremacists and neo-Nazis marching in Charlottesville are “very fine people””
From Snopes fact check: “No, Trump Did Not Call Neo-Nazis and White Supremacists ‘Very Fine People’”

God knows what kind of whoppers the Border Czar and Sgt. Schulz will cook up next.

    …and for your music enjoyment.

    an interesting one.
JFK Jr. (who I think is sharper than either candidate, agree with him or not) running mate Nicole Shanahan sez:
    ““There’s two options that we’re looking at…
…and one is staying in, forming that new party, but we run the risk of a Kamala Harris and Waltz presidency because we draw more votes from Trump.
Or we walk away right now and join forces with Donald Trump and explain to our base why we’re making this decision.””

    https://www.cnbc.com/2024/08/20/rfk-jr-campaign-trump-alliance-shanahan.html
So even the bonafide independent people see what a disaster a Harris Presidency could be. I’m waiting for the Libertarians to kick in their votes. Sometimes you have to choose between evils. It might be this is the last chance to avoid a permanent Psychopathocracy.

Yeah…that was good for a chuckle! Disposing of Trump would involve prying oneself out of the urine soaked recliner so there’s probably no danger of that in the immediate future!

I’ve heard of this before, but there’s more rumblings today…
“Kamala Harris backs President Biden’s 44.6% capital gains tax proposal, the highest in history.
The proposal also includes a 25% tax on unrealized gains for high-net-worth individuals.”
    roflmao.
Can you imagine the knock-on effects from this? I realize that the Prime Directive for ObamaBidenHarris is to extract money from badpeople and give to their special friends, but damn this would make for whacky financial craziness. Who in the heck OKs these ideas? Jeez, how much of unrealized gains is simply inflation?

“they really know how to influence (manipulate) their constituency.”
    It’s a tricky matter.
They’ve managed to convince the pro-Israel (financial backers) and pro-Palestine (crazy street protesters) that they are ON THEIR SIDE! That’s a non-trivial matter.
Other than that, putting together a coalition of post-menopausal cat ladies, ethnic activists, Free Shit Army, student-loan-forgiveness folks, bureaucrats, and men-in-dresses, doesn’t look at all easy to me. Hat’s off to them.
The Republicans have a lot easier job of mostly consisting of regular dudes and people who remember the 20th century and liked it well enough. There’s every chance that the first group outnumbers the second group (and it certainly will with a few years more immigration) so that’ll be that.
Bummer that we’re out of land worldwide as I’d love to move somewhere with high-functioning people but without non-profit grifters, politically active harridans, and DEI bureaucrats, but that’s not to be. Maybe that’s the attraction of Musk’s Mars obsession.

“If you look at the statistics, we are at the bottom of the barrel for most things that matter to most people,” said Ted Dabrowski, president of Wirepoints. “When it comes to jobs, incomes and economic growth, safety, all those things.”
Pritzker claimed that Democrats are champions of jobs, but as Dabrowski points out, there are 85,000 fewer Illinoisans employed today than when Pritzker took office five years ago, and the state’s unemployment rate is the second-worst in the country.
“We don’t have business-friendly laws, our pension debt is the biggest in the country and it sucks up a lot of money so it makes our economy worse,” said Dabrowski. “We have a lot of corruption, of course, too many units of government, all those things get in the way of companies doing what they do best and that is hiring and growing.”
Data from the Economic Policy Institute shows that Illinois’ Black unemployment rate is at a staggering 8.8%
