[A Clarion Call for Rearmament – “Sen. Wicker, ranking Republican on the Armed Services Committee, rolled out a report detailing why America’s military budget is inadequate for the “world in which we find ourselves.” America’s military isn’t equipped to deal with potential wars on two continents at once, much less the new threats in space and from artificial intelligence. Mr. Wicker proposes an additional $55 billion for the Pentagon in 2025, a total of $950 billion, as part of a new ‘generational investment.’” (more here)]

Paul, speaking through his front hole sez: “Never heard of that before scenes. Must be something you learned from you’re crowd.”
If you just used ‘ur’ instead of your/you’re it would be safer.
I see that Fox had a variant of this kind of thing a year ago or so:
https://www.foxnews.com/world/uk-cancer-trust-suggests-bonus-hole-term-vagina
Which is preferable in Blue City, California? ‘Bonus hole’ or ‘front hole’? They both have a certain savoir faire. Maybe some representative from the county government or the school board could give this some visibility.
(on a serious note, it’s a bummer that something like cancer, which is serious as a heart attack, has insane people attached to it, even if they are just volunteer groups…)

On a new tack, it’s interesting watching the hullaballoo surrounding Adobe’s new anti-privacy measures. Check it out if you get a chance.
The genius is that so many people are heavily tied into that ecosystem. It’s a combination of muscle (and mind) memory in users, work flows, and the importance of file formats.
On the face of it, the sin is one of Adobe having access to your material for AI training, but the insidious part is that they want to be able to overlook and censor everyone’s work.
I need to think through whether this is a nastier piece of work than Microsoft Windows Recall.
Welcome to the future. Remember that it’s all for the children.

Was this a test run or sheer clumsiness?
Bad timing either way:

I’m sure Adobe wouldn’t mind a company selling “Adobe Styled” software created by AI.

Though I’m not a musician, I’ve never referred to the acoustic guitar’s front hole (aka ‘soundhole’) as a “cervix”. Not an M.D. either, so there may have been a recent re-definition that I am prohibited from reading. Maybe P.E. will answer your question re the controversy. Holding my breath on that one.

scotto: “LOL – unless it’s Adobe doing the pirating!”
While I haven’t really thought up an opinion on AI vs. copyright, and God knows there’s only so many artistic tropes out there, it’s mostly a ‘privacy’ issue I think. Crazily enough, Adobe appears to retain a sort of refusal right for any work done on their products, and the ability has arrived to censor anything they like. Naturally, child protection is always the stated reason (or something involving Nazis), but the ability to turn the knobs to include any sort of editorial control they like appears to be present.
Automated iconoclasm has arrived and it’s in the hands of Team Blue. It’s funny to think about all the hand-wringing about the Christian Right back in the 1980’s. Falwell or Pat Robertson or Tammy Faye Bakker was going to send all the atheists to jail or something. It turns out that the crazy cat ladies and men with peculiar hobbies grabbed the reins of power at exactly the right moment in technical history. Go figure.

I think it’s the other way around. The seriously power mad are always with us and always want to take control. As our world began to run on zero’s and one’s the opportunity for 1984 style great control had arrived all wrapped up in a big box called “the digital age” with a ribbon on it. Biden is the same lying crook he’s been for decades. The Fibbies have been lying to us for decades. The major news media outlets have been lying to us for decades. Along with the opportunity for smothering control came a plot twist – all sorts of folks could break through the matrix and talk directly to everyone in the world. Some of it was blather but there was also a major lifting of the curtain of lies and the rats and other vermin were exposed. So the rats and vermin resorted to being even more extreme in their efforts to lie and control. The public needs to have 400 pounders win Miss Alabama and have men being Woman Of The Year to keep the balls of disgust and confusion up spinning in the air to let us know who really has actual control of the approved reality.
It really is the same sort at the helm as it’s always been. But the crazy has to be turned up to 11 now to keep the shlubs in line.

I’d say that it’s likely that that’s temporary. Over the last 8 years or so, it’s pretty obvious how much centralized control there is of big leagues social media in addition to MSM. All it took was for Orange Hitler to exist for them to do whatever-it-takes. The handling of COVID is another example of ham-handed monolithic control of policy and media at work. I honestly don’t expect for it to abate.
” But the crazy has to be turned up to 11 now to keep the shlubs in line.”
The ‘keeping’ will improve in efficacy. As every dollar is tracked, every communicated word is parsed, omnipresent cameras and the IoT, every purchase tracked, your new car ratting you out to both insurance companies and government, the chances for control increase. No matter how well intentioned the lords and masters are, they always go down the same path, it’s just that this time the tools are way better.
As an aside, I would say that a lot of modern crazy…the 400 lb beauty queens, fat transgender models on billboards, affirmative action on steroids, the breakdown of national borders…is largely done just to prove that it can be. 1 part demoralization, 1 part revenge with some handwaving about morality. It’s odd that we are increasingly governed by a metastasized version of Teen Vogue, but mean girls always had it in them.

“1 part demoralization…”
Straight out of 1984.
You are forced to believe what you know is a lie.
A dude and a 400lb woman are beauty queens.
A man can be pregnant.
They push it on the public not because THEY think it’s true but because they know it is not true and they can do it anyway.
You will submit. Demoralizing fer sure.
And govt digital currency. Hoo, boy.
Once that’s in place – game over.
All the brave talk about an underground economy and barter – they’ll have plenty of willing finks to rat out offenders and those offenders will be made into examples of what we do with naughty children.
Your home and assets will be gone just like that.
Why do you think they’re so bent on getting everyone on the grid? They have to get that last gas station/general store in Elk’s Ass MT hooked up and then hello total control.
LikeLike
“Why do you think they’re so bent on getting everyone on the grid?”
an especially sweet grid at that. ‘Smart’ thermostats in your smart home for instance. You can centrally turn down the A/C on hot days rather than building more capacity into the system. Run the whole grid at the ragged edge the whole time.
Got an electric car? It’ll be tied into the grid as a battery. It’s way cheaper than building power storage for nighttime or those 3 week long cloudy spells.
Naturally, you won’t have heat or hot water during an outage. Hopefully the pipes don’t freeze.
You have to love a future that includes (a)non-negotiable use of electricity for all powered items (b)non-negotiable generation of that electricity via a few pre-chosen technologies.
The really neat thing about uber-centralization of the substrate of civilization, be it Bank of America, Facebook, Amazon, Paypal, Gmail, VISA, Verizon, PG&E, is that you can use them to pursue public policy in ways not allowed to the government. Places like Facebook are in charge of censorship, BlackRock is in charge of hiring policies.

To me, the appalling thing is the subtext in all of this. That it’s OK for your house to get shut down and for all your services to be shut off if you are a racist. The problem is that the systems worked improperly, not that they exist.
The Blue Mob can always find more thoughtcrime, so the list of potential offenses will only grow. Surveillance + monopoly = a world of shit. You’ll think that you’re fine with selfhosting, but then your ISP will find fault in your behavior. It’s for the children.
It’s all a matter of degree I guess. A person can build their own library, both physical and digital, pay cash, own old cars, find a highly independent way of making a living. Self-sufficiency becomes a revolutionary act, but it also makes you stand out. You may not be interested in ‘progressives’, but they are very interested in you as correct thought becomes the order of the day.
I wonder sometimes if things like older encyclopedias won’t rise in value before they are outlawed. The memory hole is always hungry.

I was considering the use of unknown gender in pronouns this morning, at least in English.
It always grates my eye a little bit to see ‘she’ rather than ‘he’ (or ‘they’) when speaking generally. Naturally, there’s a general tendency in the politics of authors, but it’s also fairly obvious that the gatekeepers in the publishing biz only allow certain things through the, well, gates. There’s likely 1000 ways that a low level of both censorship and nudging occurs in new book releases. It’s not dissimilar to academic papers
Out of curiosity, let’s see:
