[Islamophobia? Actually, for non-Islamists there is no such thing when we recall that the definition of ‘phobia’ is an unreasonable fear. A correspondent sent a revealing video (here) of British Islamic scholar Anjem Chaudary calmly describing a Europe that will soon succumb to Islam and sharia law. “Democracy will most likely be replaced by Islamic Sharia law in the UK, Belgium and France within 15-20 years.” This prediction is supported by this week’s local elections in the UK – ‘U.K. Local Elections Yield Ominous Islamist Success’. gjr]

“Vermont passes bill to charge fossil fuel companies for damage from climate change”
easy peasy:
“The amounts owed would be determined based on calculations of the degree to which climate change contributed to extreme weather in Vermont, and how much money those weather disasters cost the state.”
Just get out your “Climate Change For Dummies” book and look in the ‘turning CO2 into dollars’ section to find out how much to charge.
“…would similarly mandate that big oil companies and others with high emissions pay for damage caused by global warming.”
Really? Rosneft and Gazprom and Sinopec and CNPC and Shandong Energy and Indian Oil Corp are gonna pay big bucks to Vermont?
“State Sen. Anne Watson, a co-sponsor of the bill, said she hopes that if the law goes into effect, it pushes big oil companies “to become purveyors of renewable energy sources and keep fossil fuels in the ground.””
She “hopes”.
Sounds solid.
I’m sure she’ll come up with a new bill next year to help the citizens of Vermont deal with the crippling new high costs of energy.
The only winners here are a handful of expensive law firms.

According to the US Treasury Department’s Fiscal Data, California’s current debt is the highest among the states. New York, Connecticut, and the Virgin Islands follow, albeit with far less debt, with $7.5 billion, $227 million, and $81 million respectively.
While other states have paid down their debts, including those with high general-fund debt like Illinois and New Jersey, California continues to struggle with repayments.
A high unemployment rate continued to persist in California. February’s rate hit 5.3%, the highest unemployment rate in all of the U.S.
Another challenge adding to the strain is the projected $73 billion budget deficit for fiscal year 2024. A decline in tax revenue (because residents have begun moving away from California) is to blame.
They’re already struggling to follow a constitutional mandate for a balanced budget.
While they proposed a $17.3 billion cut in budget, the measure — once again — wouldn’t bridge the substantial deficit gap.
Why is California suffering economically? A number of reasons contribute to this situation — overly strict regulations, high taxes, governance issues among them.
Meanwhile, a column in the L.A. Times wrote how California’s unstable tax system caused all sorts of problems. The tax system, the column said, relied too heavily on the rich and “politicians are too cowardly to fix it.”
California does experience job growth, but only in certain areas (government jobs, leisure, and hospitality among them.) And not all the state government’s employment policies are met with open arms.
While the state is attempting to help increase wages for workers, their good intentions are being met with negative consequences. The state increased the minimum wage for healthcare workers to $25 per hour.
The California Department of Finance estimates that the wage increase will cost the state about $2 billion in the budget due to increased labor costs and Medicaid payments to hospitals.

Re DonB 911pm – There is a straightforward explanation for what continues to cause California its fiscal and governance problems according to Rebane Doctrine. It is simply that our state is staffed with legions of ignorant (deficient knowledge base) and stupid (unable to learn) bureaucracies that are continually sustained by vote-buying cynical politicians who are regularly ensconced by an electorate of terminally stupid takers. The combination is irredeemable because first and foremost it cannot be publicly acknowledged.

Trump’s organization recorded the check to the liar (ummm, lawyer) as being a legal expense, not that abnormal for checks to one’s lawyer.

While speaking at the fundraiser on Friday, Biden referenced a false claim that Trump had once suggested people “inject bleach” to help treat the coronavirus, saying he wished the former president “had done a little bit himself,” according to the Jerusalem Post.
“Remember him saying the best thing to do is just inject a little bleach in your arm?” Biden said on Friday. “That’s what he said. And he meant it. I wish he had done a little bit himself.”
As Breitbart News has previously reported, and as the White House transcript showed, Trump never suggested that anyone should inject bleach into their arm.
Trump’s comments were in reference to experimental UV technology and how it might possibly be used in the human body.

JAMES CARVILLE: Trump’s more ahead than he’s ever been, more — fewer people think January 6 was any kind of what it was, an assault on the temple of democracy, our Constitution, whatever you want to say.
It’s going the wrong way. It’s not working. Everything that we’re throwing is spaghetti at a wall, and none of it is sticking, me included. It’s hard starting your 80th year, and like everyone else I have an opinion of myself. And the opinion I’ve come to is I don’t matter.
It doesn’t matter. You can prepare and you can be on TV, you can write pieces, you can have a YouTube channel, you can have a podcast and nothing, nothing!
We’ve got to try to think of something different because what we’re doing in really really not working.

lol. Gotta love that Carville character.
““If Trump and [John] Roberts and Alito and [Neil] Gorsuch and [Clarence] Thomas and Leonard Leo and the Heritage Foundation, if they get a hold, there will be no government left, there will be no rights left, you will live under theocracy, you’ll end up with Christian nationalism. But that’s all right, you little fucking 26-year-old, you don’t feel like ‘the election’s important to me. They’re not addressing the issues that I care about,’” said Carville.”
You could argue that the party of 3rd trimester abortions, drag queen story hour, and forced purchases of electric cars could get back to their core issues, but they just get crazier and crazier. I suspect that the Psul Party will continue to dominate just because of the mass importation of compliant voters from abroad combined with outright payoffs via student loan forgiveness and cash- and job-flow to a strategically chosen set of ethnic minorities, but they really are losing their minds. A Clinton Democrat would be viewed as a neo-Nazi by a modern Team Blue activist, and God knows what they’d make of a WWII-era person.
You do have to wonder where this Christian Fear thing comes from. Generally, I’d say that people are vastly less religious than previously, even most church-goers, and the era of powerful evangelists is long past, whether it’s Pat Robertson or Aimee Semple McPherson. Hell, even the Catholic church (or the Methodists for that matter) is wildly left-wing compared to it’s history. I guess everyone needs a Two Minutes Hate.
For all I know, maybe the main difference is the heavy backing of exotic belief systems by extremely wealthy people. There’s definitely been a huge sea-change in attitudes by billionaires. Those railroad and industrial magnates of yore have been replaced by Soros, Jobs’ widow, Larry Fink, and a scad of tech company executives in backing politics at all levels with rather peculiar belief systems. You end up with ‘activist’ district attorneys, city councils, non-profits, elections officials, in addition to congressmen and it’s all been in my lifetime. Remarkable.
Maybe all it took was the evolution of work from farming to industry to utter bullshit. Economies based on internet marketing, concert promotion, and finance produce a valueless people doing valueless things.
