“Trump’s Iowa win makes it clear that from here on out only his lip will sink his ship.”
I’d say that the other risk is lawfare.
With a good number of states, and practically every large urban area District Attorney’s office looking for any old thing they can, there’s always the chance that something will stick.
The deal is that they view Trump as an existential threat to humanity and probably the rest of the universe. A kind of uber-Hitler. All acts are justified. It’s a political belief system built by telling increasingly scary ghost stories around the campfire, but I can’t help that.
Naturally, what is needed is for Trump’s side of the aisle to get just as down and dirty. All of that politeness and ruleset stuff is for chumps, that’s how you end up like the Mensheviks. You have to admit that a Republican street army that’s even a fraction as large and rowdy as the Democrats would be an amazing thing, and great for news ratings. It would do wonders for the flag business and F-250 sales.

Barry P’s gal Sue McGuire didn’t impress at the LWV debates recently.
I found out that McGuire’s “big coup” involved suing the county for the two voting machine logs that only showed who logged into the machines.
There was nothing of importance to be found in the logs that were released, unless they were trying to find private personal information of voters, addresses, phone numbers and political affiliation.
This trivial paper chase by wannabe Cyber Ninjas Barry P., Sue McGuire and Amy Young was merely a feel-good, stick-it-to-them, and a waste of time and money for the county taxpayers.

“…75 million people will believe whatever rants and babbles come out of the mouth of Orange Jesus?”
That’s 75 million more than those believing the rants and babbles from you, Juanita.
Maybe if journalists did more actual – you know – ‘journalism’ stuff like they used to.
Can you imagine if the NYTs and the major news media outlets went after Biden and Hunter 1/10 as much as they went after Nixon and the Watergate coverup?

“It would do wonders for the flag business and F-250 sales.
The economy is doing well, but the flag/f-250 industrial complex could always do with more business.
But as far as, “what is needed is for Trump’s side of the aisle to get just as down and dirty.” goes, aren’t they already doing that.
I mean, Hunter Biden, really? It seems like they are dragging the bottom of the lake on that one.
    Republicans are trying…
“House members have filed 12 impeachment resolutions this year, targeting Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of State Tony Blinken and others, according to data pulled by Quorum.
Republicans are getting down and dirty…with each other. Arizona GOP tries to bribe Kari Lake.
Ted Cruz is crying that the Republican Senate is at war with the House Republicans. They are not really, Cruz just doesn’t want to give Biden any more talking points because Orange Jesus will kick anyone who doesn’t toe the line out of Club MAGA.
Then there are the censures, “Five GOP senators who served during Donald Trump’s presidency have since been censured by their state party for not toeing the party line.
Republicans have censured so many of their GOP colleagues that they have done it to both Rep. Tony Gonzales (Tex.) and Rep. Anthony Gonzalez (Ohio). They’ve also now made a Democratic colleague, Rep. Adam B. Schiff (Calif.), the first member in modern history to be censured by the House on a purely party-line vote.”
I give them an A for effort!

” aren’t they already doing that.”
Oh, Good Lord no. There’s plenty more. Lawfare aside, just imagine the excitement if just a tiny fraction of the courthouse firebombing, George Floyd shopping center incineration, statue toppling, and just general mayhem of the Democratic voters was carried out by Team Red. Jan. 6 and that march in Charlottesville are insignificant compared to The Party of Biden’s friskiness.
Lacking an Emmanuel Goldstein, it’s hard to get the right so riled up though. There’s no leftwing Orange Jesus, just a tired old man, not the sharpest tool in the shed to begin with, on the last leg of the ageing process.
For all I know, people eventually become what you accuse them of. It’s some sort of bloody-mindedness built in to human behavior. Better pray that doesn’t happen.

Don’t flatter yourself, Jeff. There was no surprise in the Wiki entry you quoted. The folks writing them tend to be ideologues just like you and it’s pointless to correct the error.
Folks are pissed off at Milei winning and upsetting the left’s apple cart.
Libertarians aren’t “far right”… I can’t imagine Timothy Leary (a gracious host for a Ron Paul reception in 1988) being tarred as a far rightie.
    It’s a mudball you throw. That’s all.

I’m still trying to figure out why anarchists and communists seem to be the same general mob.
My (relatively safe) assumption is that Milei will crash and burn, and that’s with knowing basically zero about Argentina. Too many faults in the system, too much inertia. Some kleptocracy with guns will pop out of the mix.

Idiot Juanita – “The economy is doing well…”
    Not according to your president.
Biden claims the economy is so far in the tank, university and college graduates can’t get jobs to pay their loans.
    Right, Juanita?
    further –
“I mean, Hunter Biden, really? It seems like they are dragging the bottom of the lake on that one.”
That one what? Since Juanita is now claiming to know all about Hunter Biden, it would be worth a large bucket of popcorn to hear what he has to say about Hunter Biden and his various “business associates”.

    You Californians are so lucky!
“These changes are a head-on (poor choice of words, dude) attempt to tackle vehicle fatalities, which are surging across the U.S.—and especially in California—amid a rise in reckless driving since the onset of the pandemic,” a press release from Wiener’s office explained. “A recent report from TRIP, a national transportation research group, found that traffic fatalities in California have increased by 22% from 2019 to 2022, compared to 19% for the U.S. overall. In 2022, 4,400 Californians died in car crashes.”
So – how often was excessive speed the actual cause of these mechanical maladies?
Oh, who cares – this is an EMERGENCY!!!!
“CA State Senator Scott Wiener, a Democrat from San Francisco, introduced the Speeding and Fatality Emergency Reduction on California Streets Package this week that includes a provision that would require “new vehicles sold in California” to “install speed governors, smart devices that automatically limit the vehicle’s speed to 10 miles above the legal limit.””
And how will our will our Nanny-Mobiles know at any given time what the speed limit is?
“…Wiener said. “There is no reason for anyone to be going over 100 miles per hour on a public road…”
Well, there are. Just none known to him. But I guess pretty soon we’ll have to limit our sound reproduction systems in our home to some Wiener-approved decibel limit. Not to mention a system of monitoring every citizen’s intake of calories to some “safe” level. I’m sure there’s an ’emergency’ for damn near anything one can think of these days.
    Oh, Brave New World!

DB – I’ve followed that story since it first broke. They did not have a warrant to search every box but felt free to do so. It would be the same if they had a warrant to search one house and then decided to smash in the door of every house in the neighborhood. I am happy to see the ruling, but I can assure you, no fed was slapped in any way, shape or form. There will be no reprimand, no reduction in pay, no demotion or hindrance to their career. I hope the citizens injured by this obvious over-reach will recover their legal costs but I doubt it.
It’s a sad day when an honest law-abiding citizen has to grovel before the justice system to recover what the feds took from them without due process.

Truth is, this is an early salvo of many nanny state bills you can expect from here on. The thing is that the cost of implementation has dropped so low, that it’s perfectly reasonably to absolutely fill your car with controls of some sort. Remote shutdown, drunk driver detector, auto-speeding ticket enforcer, only starts on odd (or even) days or days where the air pollution is low, call-the-cops if illegal drugs detected, listen fer insurrection talk. The future’s so bright, we’re gonna get played.

    Thought of the mornin’.
I was reading ‘The Dictatorship of Woke Capital’ (a much better book than you would imagine) and was thinking about an investment concept.
Find a couple of big mutual funds to pair. The first would be the most egregious ESG-oriented one you could find, the second a total market fund. Short the first, long the second. I’ll just betcha they don’t beat the market.
Of course, at this point, it’s likely they’ll all become ESG funds. One of the most brilliant moves by Team Blue, and a genius move for any time, was to tie political correctness to buying stocks. Once you get CalPERS, BlackRock, Vanguard, State Street, various teacher’s unions, etc. to require certain company behavior in order to buoy up stock price, you have essentially instituted an extra-government control over the economy. No legislation is needed. Add in opinion-based things like SASB standards, and the deed is done.
Between the rioting street armies at one end, Larry Fink at the other, and President Potato in the middle, all you can do is laugh. Just close your eyes and think of England. It’s no wonder that one of the great memes of the post war era was the alien abduction anal probe.

Trump is now running a shadow government and has called for national guard troops from other states to descend upon Texas to do battle with the Feds and the Browns.
Republicans in the House and Senate live now in fear of reprisals from the true believer MAGA if they don’t tow the line.

If their lips are moving they are lying –
Amid a conversation about the Biden administration pausing approvals of liquefied natural gas or LNG exports, Granholm was questioned about the consistency of Biden’s stance on fossil fuels in general.
“Activists are hailing the decision as a landmark crisis that shows that industries will no longer just get a blank ‘okay’ to proceed with building oil and gas products, a powerful statement we can no longer allow the industries to continue operating and that hearkens back to President Biden’s campaign vow to put the fossil fuel business out of business,” Kernen continued. “And he said, ‘Read my lips, we will put fossil fuels out of business.’”
“I want you to look at my eyes. I guarantee you. I guarantee you. We’re going to end fossil fuel,” Biden said at the time.
“I did not hear him say that,” Granholm replied.

“makes the proposed electric vehicle mandate completely unrealistic,” DB
aah, now that’s a thing I completely agree with. In some cases EVs are an ideal vehicle, in others they suck. Simply having a governor or President stand on the beach and order the incoming tide to halt never ends well, and organic increase in usage allows a tolerably orderly build-out.
But remember, you are dealing with true believers here. The double whammy of ‘activists’ who not only want to run your life but actually achieve status and $$$$ from doing so is impossible to ignore right now as they hit above their weight.
“There is a thing called nuclear power, ever heard of it?” IJ
Sure. They’re even building a nuclear plant in Georgia, the first one in 40 years I think. Typically they’re not allowed. You just try breaking the ground for one in California and see what happens, I’ll watch. They take decades to plan and build, and there’s a deep-seated religion against the things from the Left. Don’t be silly.
Given the expense and storage issues inherent in solar/wind, the religion against oil/coal/gas, and the religion against nuclear, the probable path going forward if ‘progressives’ get their way is rationing and taxes. Radically crank up the cost of energy and do things like centrally control thermostats and Bob’s yer uncle. My guess is that the desired end game for the average person, at least the one envisioned by liberal billionaires and all those friendly marchers with signs, is high density housing and public transit. Pack them people in.

Never’ll happen. It’s always easier to gin up support against a thing. ‘Activists’ (or any other highly motivated group) hit above their weight. Billionaire activists (think Laurene Jobs, Bloomberg, Larry Fink, Melinda Gates) don’t give a shit if you get reliable power.
As a culture, I’d say the day that we were able to build long term and complicated things is gone. There’ll always be someone from ESG/DEI land to add impossible friction to the situation, or the activist grifters move in to bring the effort to a halt. Governance consists of mine protesters and Gaza demonstrators on a local level, along with highly paid apparatchiks (fer instance, Shannan Moon made $400k in 2020 total), and national nonprofits and other rowdys with signs.
Takes a long time to build a nuke plant, and a country run by middle-aged unmarried HR department chicks ain’t gonna make it.
