‘Freedom?  We don’t need no stinkin’ freedom’.  Anonymous leftwinger

George Rebane

The Pew Research Center released the latest edition of a poll on free speech that they have been conducting for years.  It contains the latest tranche of evidence that corroborates one of the longtime tenets of Rebane Doctrine – a major fraction of Americans are no longer smart enough to maintain our democratic republic.  Not only that, but the level of dumbth in the population is increasing at an alarming rate.  (more here, H/T to reader)

Over the last five years Pew has posed this poll three times.  “In 2018, Democrats supported free speech by a 57-40 margin, almost identical to the Republican view. They now oppose it by 70-28, a massive shift over the last five years, while Republican views have not changed.”

FreeSpeechPoll2023

As RR has held for years, most Dems are true believers in big government that they entrust with managing their (and our) lives with an unending and ever-growing tsunami of regulations, and with the handling of an ever-greater fraction of your finances.  And in recent years they have been convinced by their lamestream media and neo-Marxist politicians that the whole effort to convince new ideological recruits and maintain existing membership is by convincing everyone that allowing people to hear “misinformation” in the public square is inimical to American democracy.  Moreover, those (Republicans) who continue to maintain and support the First Amendment are evil along every social dimension – white supremacists, racists, homophobes, inequitable, non-inclusive, rejecting diversity, … .

Today our progressives and woke contingents are actively working to break down our country from the inside.  As recently as 20 years ago these lame brains were overwhelmingly to be found in our ‘deep state’ bureaucracies and academe.  Now the infection has spread to and runs rampant in K-12 public education, corporatist business enterprises, and the military.

The bottom line is that most Americans today would be sanguine living in a society where all permitted public speech must first be vetted by a newly established Ministry of Truth and its local offices spread across the land.

How about the lies that Trump spreads Gregory. Once again you don’t mention that. Do you believe he is being truthful when he says the election was stolen? What facts does he base that on?
“TRUMP, on the Biden administration: “”That’s what you get when you have a rigged Election.”
TRUMP: “In actuality, the Big Lie was the Election itself.”

Hmmm. So why would someone be anti-free speech? especially as a mass opinion.
Just to throw out a guess.
If what you believe is simply ridiculous and impossible to justify, you’ll generally be against opposing opinions, even to the extent that they are made illegal. If not illegal, cause the badthinkers their jobs, the livelihoods, access to banking, besmirch their home with graffiti. It’s all good.
So, if you are justifying sexualized books in K-6 classrooms, the normalcy of Sam Brinton or Grand Admiral Levine, completely open borders, late third trimester abortions, iconoclasm, Drag Queen Nation, and produce a President with obvious old-age mental issues, well, you’re gonna want to shut down the opposition as everything you say is ridiculous.

Those both strike me as justifiable opinions. The truth is in the margin somewhere.
In any case, thanks for immediately bringing up Trump in a thread which has little to do with him you stupid little shit.

Paul – “The topic was lying…”
And being so well acquainted with lying, Paul assumed it was an invitation for him to jump in.
The election was rigged from even before Trump was sworn in for his oath of office.
Trump wasn’t even that conservative or effective as POTUS but being an outsider of the Blob, he was a threat to the established world order.
    He had to go.
And the left comically now excuses dirty cops, wealthy white men escaping justice and ongoing institutional racism.

Exactly how was the election rigged Scott? Fake votes, voter suppression etc. To make such a statement you must have some facts to verify your assumption so what are they?

They have been brought up repeatedly, Paul. You proudly admit you don’t follow the links provided. You dismiss facts that you don’t like and you blindly follow the Dems talking points. You really have no clue what the hell is going on and even now deny that the Biden family has been selling out American foreign policy for millions of dollars they have pocketed.
The fact is that it doesn’t matter whether or not you believe my assertions. It doesn’t change reality – it doesn’t change anyone’s mind and you can rant and rave, but it looks like you voted for the worst president we’ve ever had, bar none.
And we notice that every time I post here about you being a liar, you have never once objected.
Because then I’ll re-post your lies and you’ll have to eat them.
Unless you can come up with more lies to cover the lies you’ve already told.
Still waiting for proof that the video of Biden fiddling with a young girl’s nipple was “doctored” as you claimed.
Still waiting for proof that I “believed all of Trumps lies”.

Precisely what number of electorial votes would have been shifted to Trump that would then give him the majority that would have made him President. You must know that in order to be so positive he was the rightful winner of the election. What states and how many votes would have shifted
incorporating Gregory’s logic I contend Trump “wants the freedom to spread lies without consequences” and both of you support him.

Ah – the freedom to spread lies.
Well, the govt seems to have that freedom and Paul Emery enjoys that freedom, so why shouldn’t everyone have that freedom?
If you want to censor information on the basis of not allowing “lies” then we have a sticky problem of what a lie is and just exactly who or what govt agency gets to decide.
History (long past and most recent) has shown that giving the govt the job of determining lies is a fool’s errand.

    Bullshit. No it’s not.
The topic is government restriction of false information online, false being a matter of opinion sometimes. Read George’s post. Also, Paul Emery has a strong tendency to conflate ‘lie’ with ‘say something that isn’t true’. They are different.
Here’s what the topic is not about:
    Trump.
    Paul Emery.
Unfortunately, Paul Emery makes it his singular mission to make George’s blog all about Paul Emery. Trump is Paul Emery’s only topic. Paul Emery has found a certain joy in being an 80 year old asshole online but turns out to have a genius for becoming the center of attention. It could be that Paul Emery’s experience as a minstrel has made him well suited for this.
Personally, I’m rather sick of Paul Emery and wish he would either stick to the Sandbox and/or George would actively edit his blog. If I remember correctly, there was a dedicated Trump thread for Paul Emery to put his Trump stylings.

I notice that no one has yet to consider the elephant in this post. Why is it that significantly more Democrats are for autocratic social orders in which government controls what we may hear and speak. This points to a massive character deficiency in a significant fraction of our population which is also attracted to a political party and ideology that are intrinsically evil.

Why are you surprised? The average American relying on the LSN will hear about none of this. The suppression of reality is that pervasive. There are still millions that believe the “Trump collusion with Russia” story.
Look at Paul’s idea of govt censorship as a good thing when some one he doesn’t like says something he doesn’t like.

It includes the power of not grasping analogies, of failing to perceive logical errors, of misunderstanding the simplest arguments if they are inimical to Ingsoc, and of being bored or repelled by any train of thought which is capable of leading in a heretical direction.
