[Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson of SCOTUS has confirmed that her career advancements have been based on ‘Section 8’ promotions. Her dissent from last week's ruling against racial preferences in college admissions demonstrates both her gullibility and overall ignorance (terminally innumerate). In there she argues for benefits of diversity in education, and presents a preposterous example of black infant survival rates under black physicians (here). It reminds me of the congressman, a few years back, who warned of a Pacific island with a military base on it tipping over because we were stationing too many troops there. Talk about our republic suffering its slings and arrows from elected officials and promoted bureaucrats. gjr]

New to me, looking at some online medical site (a privilege of age).
‘Assigned female at birth’ has the acronym AFAB (along with AMAB naturally). Often used since there’s so many specific issues that are assigned at birth.
Kind of a long-winded way to say ‘female’ don’t you think?
LikeLike
They have to get into common understanding that gender is not immutable but rather, mere constructs. A choice.
If you have female genitalia at birth you can be expected to be XX. If you have male genitalia, you can be expected to be XY, and no matter how long you live or how often you try to change your gender, you will remain what you were in utero. There are rare exceptions that can fit into the category of birth defects.
My doctor’s office recently handed me a questionaire that had the “what sex were you assigned at birth” question. Time to find a new medical orifice.

It sure would be simpler if they left the existing language alone and stuck to adding new words for themselves.
Men-in-dresses, who are neither fish nor fowl in some ways, they certainly aren’t female (and never will be) could exclusively use their own moniker. Maybe stick with a subtype, maybe stick with a first level noun, but don’t mess with everyone else’s vocabulary to carve out your own.
‘Cis’ is downright insulting, but I don’t much care if ‘trans’ exists as a concept. It does make me wonder what a good prefix for xenomelia would be. Wikipedia sez ‘transabled’ but it doesn’t fall readily to hand, assuming it’s still attached.

Downright insulting? “Cis”?
Cis and trans remain terms used by chemists. That’s where they should be left, much like entropy is a term used by physicists and physical chemists. Hands off.
Now, I really should be getting to my task at hand, decreasing entropy in my yard to maximize the chances my insurance company will reverse their decision not to renew my homeowner’s insurance.

“Downright insulting? “Cis”?”
You bet, and I get the reference for it.
The implication in modern usage is one of equivalency between trans and cis for gender. Somehow, ‘normal’ requires a new, improved way to say it. Which was sorta my point.
I did hear a good question on the radio today. Some AM-talk guy was wondering why female genital mutilation used to be a bad thing, and now it’s good. Maybe the right folks are getting rich on the procedures for once.
LikeLike
Bad female genital mutilation was traditional, without modern medical standards and purely to reduce the woman’s sexual pleasure, to help keep them from straying. Something of a rite of passage in the tribe. Old fashioned.
Good female genital mutilation is modern, clean, and accompanied by lifelong pharmacutical support $$$. The deluxe version leaves them with a fake Frankenpenis that might sort of work. Still generally leaves them incapable of experiencing orgasm.
I don’t see the equivalency between cis and trans. Even in chemistry… especially in chemistry.
There are lawsuits galore hitting these shores.

The conclusion of an 11-day Secret Service probe that failed to find which White House staff member or visitor left cocaine in the West Wing looks like a whitewash, former federal investigators told The Post Thursday.
“This is a cover-up. How can they say they have no leads?” one ex-agent said. “It is a restricted area and they have a log book, you don’t have to be Columbo to figure out who was there.
“Suppose it was anthrax,” the same person raged. “Would they have the same answer?”
“We have a tale of two countries,” another former fed said. “They identified hundreds of people who were in the Capitol building on Jan. 6 after an extensive investigation, but they don’t know who left something in an 8 x 10 room in the White House?”
The Secret Service concluded its inquiry Thursday without identifying a suspect, citing “a lack of physical evidence” after FBI forensic testing yielded no fingerprints and insufficient DNA evidence.
No expense will be spared, no societal norm is too important to overlooked in order to keep Joey Fingers and his ….ahem ..charming gaggle of dysfunctional relatives comfortably ensconced in public housing.
Way to keep ducking those process servers Hunter.

“Federal Reserve Says Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Is So Massive It’s Boosting the Economy”
Because hotel and motel bookings are up. I’m waiting for the fantastic news to hit the stock market.
Moron line of the year:
“The massive outing that is doubling (or tripling) down in cities across the nation every weekend has provided a shot in the arm to local economies thanks to Swifties freely spending their hard-earned cash.”
Great.
Because otherwise, the “Swifties” would have simply shredded or thrown away their cash.
I’m sure our nation will become a world monetary power because we sell rocks to each other at the bottom of a well.
Let’s look at the actual central bank statement –
““Despite the slowing recovery in tourism in the region overall, one contact highlighted that May was the strongest month for hotel revenue in Philadelphia since the onset of the pandemic, in large part due to an influx of guests for the Taylor Swift concerts in the city,” officials wrote.”
So – one month for one city. Wow. I’m sure our deficit will contract to nothing on THAT news.

I won’t pretend to discuss anything with psul as he never reads links, never responds, never has an original thought…but the debt is an interesting thing to think about.
I’ll posit a few posits.
. Kicked into gear by the US as an empire and shoved along by the US as welfare state, the debt has increased come what may. You can’t pick out the situation by party as the country isn’t run by parties, it’s run by entrenched bureaucracy.
. Gubmint never was run in a practical fashion, politicians were never skilled at actually administering. The problems erupt when government metastasizes, grows in scope, grows in size, pushes spending up the chain to the federal level.
. Trump’s deficit looks like everyone else’s. He’s just the reality star sitting in front of a Big Machine that does what it wants.
. The late-administration deficit was COVID. Panic was used as an excuse to hand out the $$$$. What the situation most reminds me of was 9/11.
. The country is run by a coalition of aggressive foreign policy armchair generals and a group representing branches of the Free Shit Army. Political parties matter not a whit.
. The whole shebang is going to auger in, but there’s a lot of dying in a culture. It’ll take some time to use up the resources of the ever-smaller group that produced things of value.

Ah well, there’s not much new in this world.
It would be interesting to do a good solid dig on Nixon/Watergate and look for the similarities in The System’s approach to Trump. Maybe start with Geoff Shepard’s book. The truth likely dies with the eye witnesses or is locked up in unobtainable documents in any case.
Once you commit the original sin of centralizing government and control of the economy, it’s probably madness to think that a new-hire, for 4 or 8 years, has much to do with it.
Given the power to do it, people will always demand your money or goods, control of your soul, steer your actions at the most trivial level. Whether it’s the IRS, The Party, the church or king, or BLM/Antifa, the fist is always present to some degree.

True that.
Consider the size and power now present in the form of our fed govt.
There doesn’t need to be a plan or conspiracy for the govt to act the way it does.
The fed govt has become a blob or mass of unknowable size and scope, yet it still is like a bee hive full of individual little bees each with their own interests and agency.
First off – they all want to get paid more and which party will always promise them that no matter what the condition of the economy? And they all want their dept or agency to grow, enabling a better chance of more power and even more pay. Which party will provide a better chance for that to happen?

Perhaps I should just consider ‘conservatives’ as people who want things to stay the same, ‘liberals’ as those who want to change. When the liberals achieve power, they become conservatives. ‘Progressives’ is a made-up name of course since ‘progress’ implies a desirable goal, when in truth is it just means the movement of wealth/control from one pocket to another. Like ‘denier’, the subtleties of English make it a good or bad thing. Another variant is the dismissive ‘conspiracy theory’. There’s power in the terms.
” Consider the size and power now present in the form of our fed govt.”
Plus the form that unintended consequences can take. Whether a policy is intended to enrich someone or is simply feelz-based, you end up in weird places.
I was just thinking about an odd corner case. The death of small pickups, plus the inevitable bitching about how ALL THESE NEW TRUCKS ARE BIG AND WILL KILL THE CHILDREN. It’s a result of EPA mileage rules based on a peculiar formula. You simply aren’t allowed, by the feds, to design and sell a small truck in the US.
No matter. We’re all supposed to live in apartments and ride the bus anyhow.
