[Public service information – The most recent edition of modern strategy makers was just published. The New Makers of Modern Strategy (2023, Princeton University Press) follows the second edition (1986) of collected writings on transnational strategies that was launched with its first edition in 1943. The collected essays by history’s notables range in time from 4,000 BC to the present. Heavy emphasis is on thoughts of 20th century world leaders and luminaries. The 1,100+ page tome is edited by Hal Brands and put out through the auspices of the Henry Kissinger Center for Global Affairs. In its various editions Makers continues to be the handbook for analyzing, understanding, and formulating the strategies of empires and sovereign nation states. The contributions from Sun-Zi through Mao Zedong are classics which bear on decisions made today on the national objectives and conduct of military, economic, trade, etc strategies. The book reads well and its heft promotes maintenance of upper body strength for the diligent reader. gjr]

Other than pure out and out vote-buying, exactly why is it we should allow a certain segment of the population walk away from debt?
Here’s a knee slapper:
“That debt relief could alleviate borrowers of the financial burdens of student loans, experts said.”
Oh.
Damn – I’m sure glad we have X-purts.
And the folks that worked 2 jobs to pay their loans off?
SUCKER!!!
“Why retirement savers need the Supreme Court to uphold the student-loan forgiveness plan”
Yeah, inflationary action by the feds is an imperative for retirement savers.
Makes total sense.

Institutional capture is a thing and the use of corporations to enforce authoritarian tendencies is impressive to watch. The visible manifestations sure happened quickly and it ain’t like Trump is going to fix any of this.
You know, maybe it’s just a natural movement given a certain amount of overpopulation, gigantism in production, and improvements in communications&surveillance. At some point in the near future, the difference between US/Western Europe and China will simply be a matter of branding.

lol. Perfect.
I was thinking about this sort of thing. It seems to me it would be a good move for everyone to simply invent a third gender (sex? I forget which one refers to possessing a born-with ‘bonus hole’…let’s say gender is only a state of mind and sex is biology) for men who want to wear pretty dresses and makeup. The third bathroom and sports teams would be a small price to pay. We can have a contest to invent a gender name.
I do notice that the bill is using old-school ‘Latinx’. The new and improved way is ‘Latine’. Naturally, Spanish is a language that has to largely be reconstructed in order to please the Snake Cult given heavy use of evil ‘o’s and ‘a’s at the end of nouns.
You have to admire how the aptly named Sen. Scott Weiner is always in the front of the parade.

The basic idea is that 12 year olds can self-emancipate, I suspect it’s mostly in place so that they can start treatment if they aren’t getting their transgender feelz at home.
It’s hard to avoid the opinion that anyone living in California with a child who isn’t hightailing it out-of-state is a fool. Retired people with money can mostly just laugh at the foolishness, but anyone with a business and/or children is subject to the full insanity of the state government.
Sometimes I think the sun can’t go red giant soon enough.

Dunno what the law is concerning child support in this case, there are probably subtleties.
It seems to me that if Mr. Weiner is interested in making sure that plenty of kids escape the clutches of their NaziTrumpsterEdgelord parents, in addition to California’s need to be a Refuge State for 12 year olds who need surgery and hormones because reasons, you’ll probably see a spate of funding law get passed to support all of these people.
Maybe Maxine Waters can roll it all up in whatever umpteen hundred billion dollar bill she cooks up next to subsidize buying homes for poor people (I mean, what could go wrong?).
I’m thinking that the simple way to go is to print up a few trillion in $100 bills, and stuff them in barrels in all city centers. Take what you need. White adult males not allowed except for those born with the wrong equipment.

Supreme Court? They’ll find a way. Maybe there’s some legal mechanism to privatize the admissions or scholarship process to re-enable a system of racial spoils.
Assuming they are forced to go a more merit-based system, it’ll be interesting to see how the various degree programs rebalance. There won’t be as much call for colleges that are heavy on inferior talent. Slamming a bunch of hardworking Asian kids through those places would probably do wonders for GDP in the long run though.
A quick example of workaround. There are fairly substantial EV subsidies handed out by The Great State of California that depend purely on geographical districts that they define. You know darn well there’s some clever boots in Sacramento that looks at ethnicity in those areas with the intention to maximize for favored groups.

From the “troubles” in France: The cop shot a 17-year-old trying to drive away from a traffic stop. The 17-yo name is Nahel M. He is Arab, so most likely a member of the RoP.
“And it’s the relationship many here have with the police which has prompted the anger – people in this ethnically diverse neighbourhood say officers aren’t working to protect them.”
Only 40,000 officers have been deployed to counter the protests tonight. Nowhere could I find a statement including the word “Muslim”.
The last inital may stand for Mfloyd, from Google translate. But without the fentanyl in his blood.

Just before the march began, Nahel’s mother Mounia gave an interview to French media outlet Blast in which she remembered her son as “a respectful, kind boy”.
Sounds like George Floyd may have been his mentor.
She asked “everyone” to join the march currently taking place in Nanterre, saying the route is one Nahel used to take on his motorbike.
Must be he traded that motorbike for the Mercedes he was driving when he was shot.

What a phony Clarence Thomas is. Here’s a direct quote from him:
‘God only knows where I would be today’ if not for the legal principles of equal employment opportunity measures such as affirmative action that are ‘critical to minorities and women in this society,’” wrote Timothy Bella. “‘These laws and their proper application are all that stand between the first 17 years of my life and the second 17 years,’ Thomas, then the EEOC chairman, said in 1983. His comments were later cited in outlets including The Washington Post, the New York Times and Newsweek.”

SCOTUS correctly judged on the basis of the case before them and our nation’s law.
Racial quotas and lowering of standards for entrance to higher education and jobs will be our nation’s undoing.
We have a new justice on the Supreme Court hired because of her race and gender. She is so stupid, she can’t define what a woman is.
If Paul feels that racism is the key to our nation moving forward we would all love to read his explanation of how that is going to work.

re: EVs.
In many ways, they are a superior answer to ICE cars. As they improve in ability or reduce in price, marketshare will increase. It’s a pretty steep growth rate right now.
The stupid thing is the mixed signals. California requirements to buy, use of tax refunds rather than subsidies (or subsidizing at all), high tariffs on the one source of cheaper cars, lack of build-out in power generation.
Keep in mind that the marketplace is based on new car buyers, not the public generally. That’s the only poll that matters.
One thing that will be interesting is the collapse of major manufacturers as they don’t make the transition. Too much ossification of design, legacy debt, unions, legacy capital investment. It’ll be crazy. Watch for the nationalization of car companies in Germany and France as the Chinese + Tesla sweep through.

a small thing, but a good example of the kindness of modern internet tribes. Just to give an idea.

Usually, but absolutely not always, a tool of Progressives, the hivemind mobs do their thing. The KVMR news staff thinks that modern politics is all about Trump and public health care compared to Denmark, but it’s really something deeper and darker.
A sane person withdraws from modern society to the extent possible, remains anonymous, sticks to a tight circle. We really aren’t that far from class enemies and The Four Olds. Any younger person wishing to hang onto a shred of self should avoid large organizations like the plague as an income source.

“According to the survey, 59% of Americans oppose phasing out gas cars and trucks by 2035, ”
I guess it depends on what questions you ask.

One interesting angle will be charger locations. The folks buying new cars are far more likely to have a garage, money for a home charger, etc. The third or fourth owner won’t.
It’s a weird one in that cars are a very expensive purchase (absurdly so in recent years) and EVs are improving/changing at the clip of consumer electronics. Hold off buying because the next gen will be better.
Given the increasing complexity of all of them, both ICE and EV, you do have to wonder if the average lifetime will be shorter (due to lack of spares, lack of knowledge) or longer (better metallurgy, improved design). There appear to be an increasing amount of unobtanium parts already for contemporary cars, wait until some more companies go out of business.

scenes – “I guess it depends on what questions you ask.”
Nope – it depends on who you ask. General population vs “car buyers”.
And since a lot of “car buyers” are already firm with buying an e-car, it’s not surprising you get a higher percentage from that polling group that favor e-cars.
Govt mandating e-cars and giving money to the buyers of e-cars is totally absurd.
Anytime the govt needs to point a gun at citizens and tell them they will “choose” a certain thing, you can count on big problems down the road.
They still make any part you might need to keep your Model A (or model T!) running.
I think that what will happen with in a decade or so, is folks not being able to obtain insurance for motor vehicles that are not on a govt “safety list”.
It’s for the children.
