[Public service information – The most recent edition of modern strategy makers was just published. The New Makers of Modern Strategy (2023, Princeton University Press) follows the second edition (1986) of collected writings on transnational strategies that was launched with its first edition in 1943. The collected essays by history’s notables range in time from 4,000 BC to the present. Heavy emphasis is on thoughts of 20th century world leaders and luminaries. The 1,100+ page tome is edited by Hal Brands and put out through the auspices of the Henry Kissinger Center for Global Affairs. In its various editions Makers continues to be the handbook for analyzing, understanding, and formulating the strategies of empires and sovereign nation states. The contributions from Sun-Zi through Mao Zedong are classics which bear on decisions made today on the national objectives and conduct of military, economic, trade, etc strategies. The book reads well and its heft promotes maintenance of upper body strength for the diligent reader. gjr]

I see that Pres. Joe just announced the appointment of Sen. John Fetterman as ambassador to the new Republic of Russia, with its capital in Rostov-on-Don, near the Ukrainian border.
Joe was quoted “We will Putin, er, put in a new face for our ambassadorship in Russia.”
Sen. Fetterman was quoted “I am happy to be the new amtroutador to this new member of the UN. I even bought a new hoodie to go with the job, with a rainbow on the back. I’m baffaffled as to why it took me so long to reach this impurtenant position in this great amdinistation. Suck n’eggs Oz.”

I am liking the discussions on Fox News and CNN that have nothing to do with current political squabbles in the US now that Putin is on the defensive.
The pause that refreshes, but they’ve got a lot of nukes over there.

From USA Today, for those liberals not paying attention:
(Former Col. & suer of Pres. Trump) Alexander S. Vindman, former director of the U.S. national security council and an expert on Ukraine and Russia: “The seizure of the (Rostov-on-Don) SMD HQ and the potential consolidation of control over bases in the area has taken the insurrection into very dangerous territory.”
He seems to define the word “insurrection” quite well – need at least 25,000+ fighters, well-armed, have airplanes will travel. Our ‘insurrection’ lacked all of those seemingly obvious requirements.
Of course, since Vindman is an acknowledged “expert”, this quote should have come over a week ago. That would indicate the US intel community was on top of their game. At least they issued an opinion quicker than they did for our Afghan ‘insurrection’ and subsequent tail-between-our-legs withdrawal in Aug 2021.

I suppose there’s some odds that the 17 intelligence agencies have their fingers in this pie.
Truth is we’ll never know. I try to stick to furrin’ newspapers, but have a feeling that there’s layers on layers. Naturally TASS or Pravda is worth a look, but are just basically Russia’s MSNBC/CNN.
Prigozhin needs to follow through. If things are as they appear (no guarantee there) Putin absolutely has to have the man’s head on a stake outside of the Kremlin with a good part of Wagner subject to a quick machine gunning. It’s just the nature of the thing and can’t be avoided.
Would we be where we are now without the US-driven takeover in Ukraine? Dunno, but perhaps not. Central European politics never seemed suitable for Washington but it doesn’t mean that they won’t keep on trying. Remember what Bismarck said about the Balkans.

I’m still going for 3. The more interesting question I think is whether Wagner is now used as full-on cannon fodder (true to some extent already) or disbanded.

You do have to wonder what made everyone go crazy all at once, but then it’s not everyone, it’s a highly motivated group of people who hit above their weight (so to speak).
Obviously, BMI exists because people are crappy at using calipers and dunk tanks are too much work. Changes over time are as interesting as static measurements. I wonder how many hypertension=racism articles a person could find in 30 seconds searching. It’s all so tiresome.

Lotsa possibilities here.
Remote shutoff of car. No need for police chases endangering The Children.
Realtime black box for speeding, poor driving, insurance rates, post-crime tracking. Maybe Psul’s 17 intelligence agencies will get better at tracking down and jailing insurrectionists. I suppose it could all be done with increasingly inexpensive and universal traffic cams.
Truth is, it’ll all happen in any case. The pro-surveillance forces are more focused and powerful than the anti-.
This is why ownership of the bureaucracy is such a deathmatch at this point in time. Whoever owns Leviathan when surveillance of the public gets to a certain point will own it forever.
Of course, the tax dollars just go into one big pot in any case. There’s handwaving about paying for roads, but they simply spend less from other sources.

Given the gravitational attraction of money, revolving doors, and regulatory apparatus, BlackRock and the USG simply look like organs of one animal, but is that really any different than the House of Morgan?
It would be interesting to delve into US history in order to find an era where large bureaucracies, exhibiting the prejudices of their executives, simply didn’t matter very much. No doubt the closing of the frontier made it hard to escape these people, but besides ever metastasizing gubmint law it seems like the main hold their talons have is via debt.

scenes – I suppose you could say that about them now, but traditionally the Rothschild family to my knowledge has never used anybodies money to do anything but to make themselves wealthier. They might push govts around in the meantime, but only as a means to an end. Fink and the other WEF types are using (in many cases) the American people’s money to destroy America. It’s not a means to an end, it is the end. And he’s admitted that sometimes investments might turn out “sub-optimal” by traditional investment standards, but will lead eventually to more important societal changes that are necessary (according to him). Disney keeps losing money but stays the Woke course because it means they will continue to have access to more capital anyway. Inbev continues to bleed billions in market share because they are beholden to this new corp ethic.
The newer generations of Rothschilds are probably going to go along with the WEF because as wealthy as they are, they haven’t the clout they once had. They can’t possibly control the WEF, so they may as well join them.
The Rothschilds of old would be horrified by this new way of using financial clout.
The old way is gaining power by gaining wealth. The commie leaders of the twentieth century showed you could become immensely powerful without ever having to have had money ever in your life. The uber-wealthy of the world know now that their “peers” often are nothing more than middle class jumped-up bureaucratic functionaries who none the less fly where they want in private jets just as the wealthy do. We are entering a new era that sees a great shift in who attains power and how they manage it.

Gotta love it.

re: Rothschilds and European banking.
They certainly fared far afield in terms of driving politics at the expense of pure-play making of more money…much more influential than any modern rich folk…but…
it’s worth considering if it really all isn’t just ‘making money’. By stressing DEI, which is essentially a sort of mind control (French Revolution and after seems prone to that), Larry Fink might be redesigning everyday life in a way that leaves BlackRock in a better position. Also, DEI is right handy as a weapon for working one’s way up (or defending) a corporate ladder.
fish: “….progressives are the Fascists!”
Merger of corporate and government interest seems to be a thing that goes in and out of style, although I think it doesn’t give the Fascists enough credit. These crazy belief systems that make an appearance, rabble+elite, usually differ enough that they need their own names I think. That’s the value of ‘Woke’ since historical analogies break down if you push them hard enough. Any memorable phrase or word is good enough as long as everyone knows what you mean.
I doubt European Fascism thought of itself as mentally ill men-in-dresses, unlimited immigration, growth of a welfare state with a devolving underclass, racial spoils system. Maybe you could dress a university Equity Officer in a snappy uniform with riding boots and make it work though.
At the end of the day, there’s some chance that DEI is a mechanism for the destruction of Western Civilization, but leaves the infrastructure intact, a kind of neutron bomb. What is left might be somewhat less efficient, but the people in the driver’s seat have a greater degree of control and percent of ownership at the end of the day. I think there’s a logic to the management of mass movements that isn’t immediately obvious, but self-interest plays a huge role.

FISH STICKS FOR MY NEW FROZEN ALUMINUM DINNER WITH NEW TV TRAY IN FRONT OF MY NEW RCA COLOR TV SET:
FISHMONDO: I am coming up for air from the bowels of the Swap Gas to say I ain’t dead yet, still among the vertical, and fighting the good fight. Just in a different venue for the good fight right now. Got bigger fish to fry before I GET FRIED. Dog eat dog, yum yum.
Did you know if you walk (or are wheeled or crawl) into the local hospital through the ER entrance and past all the sick and suffering humans in waiting and across the hall from the cafeteria there is a wall with a door entering the imaging center(?) graced by a NICE BRASS plaque dedicated to George and JoAnne Rebane. Or was that JoAnne and George Rebane. Probably JoAnne behind it all, lol.
Our leader and creator of this site is indeed a true community asset, unlike the boastful community assets.
I have learned through time and especially now that the measure of a great man as opposed to the measure of a good man or famous man or bad man is the character of humility one possesses. Humility and gentleness of spirit such as Dr. Rebane possesses is what separate great men from the rest of the pack.
And to think how shabbily the self appointed community non-asserts treat such a man as Dr. Rebane is what separates the true men from the faux community assets.
Yes, it was pleasing to the eye and refreshed me weary heart to come across that plague. BTW, the expression ‘warms the cockles of me weary hearth’ comes from Old English, predating the Irish languages all the uninformed run to to seek the quote from old Irish to correct moi.
But, not a hill worth fighting over this fine fine fine fine splendid morning here in God’s country. They have the right to be wrong as many times a day they choose and I retain the right not to correct them. All is well with my soul in good fight.
And to think that KVMR was petitioned to have Dr. Rebane removed from his 5 minutes a week on KVMR tells me everything I need to know about great men and the wannabes. The separation is humility, gentleness, and in Dr. Rebane case, long suffering with others. The patience of Job. A very rare character trait that leaves the rest of the pack behind.
Later my friend, fish. I’ll leave my swamp gas breath at the other good fight venue where it belongs. Thanks for the worry about my sabbatical. Nice to feel the love from you and Gregory. Warms the cockels of me weary hearth.
Anybody know what day of the week this is? Just asking for a friend….

At present the mendacious and doddering feeb who serves as figurehead to progressivism in the US has united behind him the whole of government and the collective might of the largest and most influential American and….many foreign businesses. No matter how hard you “push” it, this is textbook Fascism.
It is interesting that the collective cognoscenti on the left just refuses see it (well they probably see it but clearly refuse to admit it).
Can’t wait to see psul strutting around in Jodhpur’s while rocking Hugo Boss…..pony tail jutting out the back….while demonstrating his goose step for anyone who will buy him a cocktail!

While it’s just quibbling about a word, I can’t believe that ‘Fascism’ includes pathological altruism. Even a gentle reading of the literature shows a difference between the term and what we are seeing now.
Generally, I’d say that ‘Fascism’ is mostly used as a pejorative anymore in order to link the target with the Nazis. A lot of peoples’ political analysis consists of Six Degrees to Hitler (h/t to Kevin Bacon), whether it’s appending ‘denier’ to a thing, comparing any discussion about a Jewish person to the Holocaust, equating Trump to Hitler because he’s a once-in-a-lifetime retail politician, noticing that an avenue of Pride Flags looks remarkably like a Nuremberg Rally. I fall into it myself, but it’s intellectually lazy.

The Jacobin are the Fascists but are unlikely to recognize this anytime soon, if ever. They were always the ‘bad guys’ of the French Revolution.

“A dog makes for a fine meal”, from The Patriot, uttered by a caricature of Francis Marion, in real life known as The Swamp Fox, sometimes as the father of modern guerrilla warfare.
I remember when in Elementary School, a patriotic Disney treatment of The Swamp Fox aired, starring Leslie Nielsen as Marion. Imagine that of the current Woke brigade at Disney.
